As best I can tell I was born (I'm a man) with the deeply ingrained orientation of sexually dominant heterosexual. I recall no external imprinting stimulus.

One of my earliest memories, circa age 4, involved the busy work of coloring a picture in Sunday school. The starting point pic was the usual simple black lines on white paper - a little girl in a dress. I wanted to add strategically placed ropes to make her look tied up. I vividly recall the challenge. I felt of course that ropes should be done in white. There were white crayons but every child knows they are notorious for always being icky with smudges of other colors. Plus with white background they simply wouldn't show. So I went with black. The second technical challenge was that she was drawn in a static pose with hands less than ideally placed, i.e., they were slightly away from her body instead of crossed in front or, better yet, behind her back where wrists ought to be tied. The outcome of my artistic effort probably looked more like random slash marks. Foolish enough to show my morning's work to my parents (I should have had the brains to misplace that one) I was in trepidation they would wonder why I was rendering this sweet little innocent in, what I later came to understand was, "bondage" (it would be years until I learned that word). I recall mommy looking vaguely perplexed but they didn't make an issue of it.

My next recollection was age 5. Now, mind you, I was not yet aware of anatomic details distinguishing boys from girls and of course this was a good six years or so before the dawning of actual sexual feelings. But I had an intense recurring fantasy of tying up the little girl next door naked and causing her to fall down in the snow. This caused me a great deal of shame and perplexity. She was my friend and I felt certain if she knew these seemingly mean thoughts I was having about her it would hurt her feelings or upset her. [I also didn't understand the fall down in snow bits until years later when I realized it had been a desire to watch her struggle to get loose.]

Other than the rack scene, I had actually forgotten most of the movie (and when you consider that I only discovered the film after I joined this site, that's saying something).

The Poll: When I was age 6 or 7 I saw an illustration of the execution of Saint Sebastian in a book. He was stripped to the waist, with his arms tied overhead to a tree limb. I'm a hetero male, who identifies with the female victim in BDSM/GIMP fantasies. I've sometimes wondered how many other men into this stuff fantasize they are the suffering female. My impression from this forum is that it's a very small number.

Answer to the poll: About age 6. I watched a lot of the 1950s cowboy shows on TV, Lone Ranger, Red Ryder, and so on, which often featured the pretty girl getting caught by the bad guys, then tied up and gagged. Something about pretty women being rendered helpless in that way really clicked. I was too young to know it was sexual, but I sure knew I liked it, and whenever there was a Pretty Young Thing on the week's episode, I knew she was going to get it and I couldn't wait until it happened.

The bondage was never very good in those shows, but it was the gags that got me. That's why I like gags, especially detective gags, which as an honest gag is the completely ineffective, but, to me, the most visually appealing one. Thank you so much for your excellent review of "Barbarian Queen." I especially enjoyed your witty commentary regarding this silly, campy flick. And you're right, of course: The rack scenes, with that absurd dangling "Fickle Finger of Fate," are the high points in this Grade B (at best) drive-in flick.

I remember seeing this movie back in the early '90s as part of a twin-bill with "The Warrior and the Sorceress," an equally silly low-budget sword-and-sorcery flick David Carradine made in 1984 trying to milk as much out of his "Kung Fu" fame as he possibly could. Some modest GIMP action -- e.g.,for amusement a naked girl is thrown into a big tank of water and the party guests all get to watch her drown -- but the most memorable aspect of the movie was the fact that the sorceress, Maria Socos, spends the entire time topless. And what a rack! (They must have saved a fortune on the cost of her wardrobe.)

Somewhere, deep in the bowels of my basement, I still have VHS copies of both of these flicks. Your delightful review of "Barbarian Queen" almost makes me want to seek out a working videotape player at a garage sale and sit back with a big bowl of popcorn and watch these two movies again!

I was 8 to 10 years old I believe. The interest was gradual and at the start I just liked the fact that someone is tied up and struggling to get free. Even being pinned down or grabbed was enough to feel nice. But most Bollywood scenes involved men in such scenes but whenever the heroine went through that scenario I started liking the bondage stuff. I actually answered the poll a long time ago (where you can read many old posts of mine), but I will recap. My memories of my youth are very sketchy. But one thing I remember is a Batman comic from the late 50's where Vicki Vale and Batman are bound with hands behind their backs. Then they have some sort of rope shoulder hoist suspending them above a vat of something (acid, water?). Those familiar with comics know about the lines used to indicate an object is in motion. At one point or another I had every 8mm film HOM put out. I transferred them to video (using crude, very early video cameras and lightboxes and such) and would trade them in at the Adult store to get the next batch.

I'd have to say I first saw the signs at a very early age as well, say 7 or 8?

Regarding the poll: I didn't really notice an interest in GIMP until I hit puberty. Other boys my age were bragging about making out with girls or feeling them up. I started with bondage urges long before I even understood what they were. I was 7 years old and I remember reading a book about a Daniel Boone-like scout and his Indian friend getting captured and tied to stakes, in preparation for getting killed. I remember being so excited at the peril that I kept reading that book over and over, not understanding why it was so exciting to me. Then, I also remember the British TV show called "The Avengers" which was airing in the U.S. around that same time in the late 60s/early 70s. In college in the early 1980s, I discovered bondage flicks, which cemented the GIMP connection.

The GIMP Poll: You know, it's not the first time we've had a poll question along these lines; it seems like we have a variation of this question every 3 or 4 years, but I never get tired of reading about people's experiences of when they realized they had the fetish. There's always new posters that come along and tell their stories, and that gives each poll a fresh perspective. We're all different, but a lot of us have shared experiences. Some have admitted to
throwing away their collection of stuff, either out of guilt or perhaps for the insane notion that not having it around would somehow "cure" them. Isn't that incredible? I'm sure it's long gone, but I, for one, would have loved to have seen the drawing of the tied-up girl that a 4-year old Dionysus drew in Sunday school!

From day one, this site has been a discussion forum. The daily pictures came along later, and it's become a popular feature, sort of a bonus. There's no doubt that a lot of people come by just to grab the picture and never contribute otherwise. But at least they do stop by. Running a forum is like putting on a new show every day. You always want to have something new, and fresh, and worth people's time. That said, I'm not unsympathetic to those that can't come here every day and miss them sometimes. I might consider an archive of the daily pics if enough people say they want one. But you'd have to convince me why it would be a good idea and why the reasons I just gave are wrong.

Thomas Chaser: Great review of Barbarian Queen; we're very fortunate to have you here contributing here and taking the time to write these reviews for us. I know it's a lot of work, but it is highly appreciated and I really enjoyed reading this most recent one. Not to mention looking at all the eye-popping vidcaps, at least one bare boob in every shot! In a way, it's sort of sad, since that type of sword-and-sorcery film where you could count on seeing naked women tied up and abused, is in the distant past. Not that they were great films to begin with, but they had a level of exploitation that sadly is not seen anymore today. And in this film, along with Barbarian Queen 2, Lana Clarkson gave us 2 of the greatest mainstream GIMP scenes in history. I would argue that the sequel was actually superior to this one. At any rate, she was a beautiful woman who sadly was taken from us much too soon. She's a GIMP Hall of Famer, no doubt.

Review: Not both of them! I can't take it! (PainToy)



PainToy’s site (http://paintoy.com/) has been around for over a decade, though not always with that name. Alebeard and Dru (and Ale’s wife Emma) are fixtures in the S&M scene in Portland, which has over the years provided them with a steady flow of young women (spoiler alert: many with tats and piercings) to make videos and photo sets with them. Gotta love the Pacific Northwest for hot liberal chicklets.

For many of the earlier years their material was a bit tame for my tastes, and the occasional spectacular models they featured were, well, occasional. Certainly among their pieces have been some fine ones for fans of whipping and other basic kinks, but theirs was a site I would tend to join once a year to scavenge anything good rather than, say, quarterly. Still only $24.95 for a month.

Starting several years ago when Paingate/Whipped Women began actually marking their models and providing a generally high quality of women and production values--and even more so when ElitePain blew the limits out of the whipping video, PainToy began to step up a little more often and has produced some decent pieces. They still struggle to keep Alebeard aware of where the camera is, so he tends to stand between it and the victim and whale away for a while—though not quite so often. Lighting and sound are basic but good. There’s rarely a story-line, and though Ale and Dru aren't as wooden as Machine and Striker from PG/WW, they are very predictable.

I suspect that some of the charm of PT for those who like it is exactly in the fact that here is this pair of chubby nerds with bad hair and no apparent talents, getting to tie up and torture a regular stream of naked women, and they're not in jail, and I guess they're making some money at it. They're the guys-next-door to de Sade who give hope to the rest of us (even if only in our fantasies). And hell, one of them at least is married, and his wife runs the camera!!



In mid-February PT released a video called Not both of them! I can't take it!, which may be their best ever. The video is only 7 minutes long, but you're into the whipping within 45 seconds, and there aren't many breaks from then on.

Winnie is nude standing between the boys in somebody’s unfinished rec room as they fumble around trying to figure out how to put on cuffs and attach them to ropes. You can see amusement in Winnie’s face as she waits patiently and even offers her arm to be attached. There’s no question what happens will be consensual, just as in the Elite Pain “stories”—something that I know bothers some on the forum. For me, it’s what happens when the action is taking place that matters. And what happens here, like many of the best Elite Pain videos, is very real. The rest you can cut out.



The bondage makes you feel like you may haves tumbled into a Laurel and Hardy send up of BDSM Masters. Rope attached to her cuffs runs up through two large rings with a ratchet that holds it at a level they choose with the remainder of the rope hanging down. Before ever the whipping starts, it’s clear that those ropes hanging down on either side of Winnie are going to be a problem for the whippers. And they are. One or another of the boys is constantly getting his whip tangled with a rope, standing around holding the rope and wondering what to do with it (Whip her with it!), winding the rope around a hand to keep it out of the way, etc. They change sides once, with Dru taking his rope with him and Ale leaving his beyond so Dru has to figure out how to hold two of them and still whip. And so on.

One of my greatest criticisms of PainToy is: Nobody’s paying attention to such simple details beyond getting the basic lighting okay and the camera in focus, but any editing has to be done by the buyer. Maybe that’s why they're the ones curling a lash around Winnie and I'm writing a book report about it.



To the action: Winnie is a beautiful young woman with a body that’s flat-out zaftig. firm heavy breasts which are a dream when she’s pulled AOH in a Y. Her face is very expressive. No tats or piercings (sadly, no bush). Truly a girl next door.

One of the greatest irritants to me in PT vids is that they seem to have to cover the same ground in each video: a little single-tail, a little flogger, crop, cane, paddle. Butt, back, then turn her around and do the front, then on the knees, etc. A little something for all tastes.



Winnie doesn't have to deal with that. She just gets whipped front and back, both at the same time, with a couple snake whips. Things start slowly as the boys try to figure out the ropes, but the action picks up to the point where Winnie is crying and they stop to comfort her.



They ask her to beg for mercy, but she won't, and so the whipping continues until she’s clearly finished.

Winnie never overplays the reactions, but she is also not stoic like some of the ElitePain women. She dances and jumps beautifully and her fine light skin marks attractively. She screams, squeaks, groans and sings her pain. Finally she cries. A terrific victim. Her body at the end is a work of art.



One thing that has improved over the years is the meanness of the boys. There’s a sequence about 2/3 of the way through, where in past years they would have stopped and checked in with the model. This time they keep going even though she’s clearly suffering. At one point she is standing with her head hanging down and Ale takes a great crack across those breasts “made to be whipped”. No mercy.



There’s a great mini-scene near the end where they have her spread her legs and keep up a constant series of strokes to her pussy which gets her rocking back and forth.



The camera work here avoids the frustrating close up of one part or another (usually while another part is being whipped, no slow pans of the welts. You see all of Winnie pretty much all the time. The few times the thought entered my head, “zoom out”, the camera was already doing it.

For the three most important things for me: the victim, the action and the visibility of what’s happening, Not both of them! I can't take it! definitely gets an A—a fairly short A, since there is only about 4 minutes of quality video—but getting all three of my keys in anything is worthwhile for however long it’s available. I could mark down for the amateurish production glitches, but those I can fix on my copy for my taste. It can fix bad camera work or poor lighting or an unattractive unresponsive model or an ADHD story-line, and those are not here!



This one is definitely well above average largely because of the choice of its victim. If you like a beautiful, innocent completely nude young woman stretched AOH and whipped front and back pretty mercilessly, you'll have to go a ways to get something to equal this.

Second call for nominations for the best rack scene that Red Feline has done. What do you guys think?

Great points Ralphus and thank you for taking the time to respond. I do have an example from not too long ago, that though might not disprove anything you said, does point to a time where having daily pictures archived might have led to me posting. A while back there was a long discussion about bugs and whether or not having them in a picture was good or not. One other point, and this is probably more a personal example. I recall this particular issue of Penthouse magazine having a rather Gimpish story. That started me down this particular track... Five years later, out with friends in downtown Denver, I discovered my first H.O.M. movie at a porn shop...

Hi, all, it's my first entry at the "new" forum. I have not been around for some time, and I see that everyone is making confessions and revelations. Now is my turn, I guess, so here is mine.

Being a kid I noticed adult cartoon magazines hung from street kiosks (now I think "The Killer" was one of them; another was a sci-fi cartoon called "The Return of Osiris" -in "UFO"'s aesthetics) featuring scantily clad females (it was early '70s in Latin America) about to be somehow tortured. But all those were stepping stones for my inner fantasies, of course. My core fantasy is always about woman (or women) being the captive of a villain, who is a person of considerable power. An Oil-sheik, warlord, all-powerful dictator. The more powerful the villain the more powerless his victim and the more exciting the torture. And the torture is almost always sexually charged with the pain dispensed mostly on the woman's breasts and sex. The tortures (unrealistically, but it is fantasy) rarely disfigures the woman. And they are purely for the sadistic and sexual pleasure of the torturer, who amuses himself with an endless cycle of arousing himself by whipping her breasts or electrocuting her sex, then sating that arousal by raping her, then rekindling that arousal with the next torture.

I do enjoy interrogation-scenes, of course. It´s a great fantasy to think of a beautiful girl being tortured for information…especially information, she does not have. But a woman being tortured merely for the sadistic gratification and sexual arousal of a modern-day dictator or a cruelly twisted king in a “sword and sorcery”-setting is my personal high-concept fantasy.

The acting of the late Lana Clarkson sells the scene but equally so does the acting by Tony Middleton. His performance is radiating sadism in his shifting from teasing (“If it hurts, you have only yourself to blame.”), admonishing (“You don´t look like you appreciate science.”) and to fiendish giggling in child-like pride of his toys. The phrase with which he insults her suffering just before raping her (“You should be very proud. You are making a contribution to science.”) is high sadism that rarely fails to send shivers down my spine.

Apart from the content of the scene another reason I like it so much is the fact that it is actually in the movie. The Barbarian Queen, Amathea, is the kind of heroine that has already been in my “sword-and-sorcery”-fantasies before I have seen the movie. When the movie started, I knew I would dream up some torture-fantasies with her, since her beauty and steel-willed courage appealed to the sadist in me as someone who “needs to be taught a lesson”. As she proudly marches through the movie, slicing up and castrating men just because they are raping every comely wench in sight, I already envisioned her being chained up naked in the warlord´s dungeons, whipped, stretched, branded, raped, riding the wooden horse…etc. So she can show the warlord “…how strong and brave you truly are, eh?” It is this twisted justification of the a heroine's rape-and-torture-ordeal that works for me along with the action in the torture-chamber. She proudly proclaims in the middle of the movie: “I'll be no man's slave and no man's whore!” And as she gets tortured the sadist in me thinks: “Well, there is plenty of pain and suffering inflicted on you and you can do nothing to stop it. That makes you the torturer's slave, doesn't it? And now he is raping you and you can do nothing to stop that, either. Kind of makes you the torturer's whore, doesn't it?”

In fact, I do enjoy these fantasies to the fullest when I can “justify” the woman's ordeal by her being an ass-kicking action-heroine or a cock-teasing, arrogant bitch. Someone who “had it coming”. Not that I think that unsympathetic women deserve to be raped and tortured in real life. No one deserves that under any circumstances. But in my fantasies I enjoy that twisted justification that her pain and degradation is a well-deserved come-pace.

Anyway, at the age of sixteen I rewound that videotape to watch this scene again and again.

In a nutshell - two guys go around kidnapping young French women and taking them to the "Room of Chains" where the dudes put on robes, strip the girls naked, have some fun, then let them go. The two dudes work with a third dude known only as "The Gardener", who wears a freakish mask when he participates. One day one of the robed dudes runs into a young couple on a scooter, knocking both riders unconscious. He takes them both into the Room of Chains and begins to have his way with the female hottie. When he removes the helmet of the male, it turns out to be... well, I guess I'll have to watch the film. It's only $10 so what have I got to lose except $10 and about two hours?

You're very much welcome! I enjoyed doing it. It gave me a reason to pull out the DVD and give it another watch.

For me, the second one isn't better or worse... just different. There isn't the great dialogue you have in the first one, and the scene seems shorter than in BQ1 even with the cuts, but you do get (a) Lana's naturally bigger boobs, which like fine wine ripened with age, and (b) the twistedly perverse presence of a perverse child during Lana's torture. The dichotomy of a child's innocence with the use of an evil rack and topless nudity is just so... so... wickedly great that it makes that first racking scene really stand out in the movie; certainly above the mud-wrestling scene, the spider torture scene, and the final torture-her-to-death scene.

Hofrax: From the two "Barbarian Queen" movies, I do prefer the one in the first because of the combination of torture with rape. But the torture-scenes in "Barbarian Queen 2" are very gratifying, as well. What works well in those scenes is that, in fact, the torture starts out as an interrogation. Later, as the information she has is no longer of concern, the henchman continues to torture her as punishment for his earlier humiliation by her doing and his genuine, year-long dislike for her.

That is a really nice way to intensify her ordeal; switching the focus of the torture from interrogation to being tortured to death as a means of punishment. For me those scenes would have been even superior to the first movie, if the torturer would savour her torture not only sadistically, but sexually as well.

I can't remember exactly when I became interested in GIMP activities - I can't remember that much from my early childhood at all. There are a few events I do remember though.

The first was reading a newspaper article about torture in Saigon. I can remember which house I was living in, so I must have been about 11, around 1970 so during the Vietnam war. The thing I remember was that the descriptions of the torture were sexual - specifically burning breasts with lighted cigarettes and shoving objects up vaginas. I had never come across anything like this before and it made a big impression on me. Much later when I started writing proper stories I based one on this called 'Sophie'.

Later, in my mid teens, I got hold of a men's pulp magazine which had a story about a girl arrested in South America (I posted the cover a little while ago). This also had descriptions of sexual torture - electricity to the nipples and genitals, being tied with spread legs waiting to be burned.

Back then I would write short stories based on girls I knew. I no longer do this, preferring to imagine a fantasised image rather than a real person for my stories. Once my father found one that I hadn't hidden very well (in those days it was proper writing on paper, no easily hidden computer files). He was less than impressed!

As I got older I discovered bondage mags, specifically HOM (the first one I bought was called 'Roped & Raped') and then with the advent of VHS the whole video nasties thing kicked off in the UK and you could rent all sorts of things to watch.

The rest, as they say, is history. I guess the subject matter of these early experiences may explain my obsession with interrogation scenarios.

Arrakur, good post about "Barbarian Queen 2". Part of the appeal to me is what you mentioned in your earlier post - about a steel-willed "ass-kicking babe" being taught a lesson. BQ2 has that in spades. As the price for being so defiant and earlier humiliating the villain, she is to die in the most painful and humiliating manner possible. In the screen capture you posted, at that point in the film we are to believe that our heroine has already been tortured for a very long time. I really wish there was an extended version that filled this scene in, but alas, looks like we have to use our imagination.

Also note the change in her demeanor from the earlier torture scene. Whereas before she was still defiant in spite of the pain being inflicted on her, here she appears broken and resigned to her fate (I love it when she gasps "someday someone will come and stop you", lamely trying to stay defiant, but at the same time acknowledging that she is powerless to save herself from being slowly tortured to death). It's this utter powerlessness of the GIMP in this type of scenario that is most appealing to me - moreso than any rape scene. Not that there's anything wrong with the rape scene in the first movie. But I would have changed things so that had she did not escape during the rape, and then the torturer - satisfied he had gotten what he wanted out of her (sex and information) - decides to keep her on the rack and torture her to death.

I've always thought that I was genetically predisposed to GIMPage, because where would the impulse to kidnap and tie up 6-year-old topless girls come from? But it may be, as someone suggested, that cartoons like Popeye did exert some influence on my fantasies.

Other early sources of inspiration were the Italian "sword-and-sandal" movies and "safari" flicks that were mainstays of Saturday TV. Always some hot chick being abducted, tied up and put in peril.
MAM covers showing partly clad (or unclad) women in danger were often on display at the local drugstore. I've always had a place in my heart for those. (Thanks to all who've posted examples in the past several days).

Growing up Catholic, I've long felt that the church subtly romanticized torture. We were required to read a book called Lives of the Saints in which one could find tales of martyrs, in both male and female varieties, who were subjected to all kinds of depraved sufferings. Good GIMP fodder for a young boy with a vivid imagination.

Like A Canadian and a few others, I do not indulge in any real BDSM practices; I view GIMPage strictly as a spectator sport, and prefer fantasy bondage/torture/rape scenes over the real thing.

Arcas - my bad! I didn't recognize her until you posted up that still from "Hot Spot" with Don Johnson and Virginia Madsen. At the time I saw that film, Connelly only had one big film to her credit ("Labyrinth") and didn't even get top billing until "The Rocketeer", which I didn't see because I heard the plot sucked and she didn't get naked in it. Her scene in "The Hot Spot" was the only reason I bothered to rent that movie from the local video store, and it was well worth the full-price of $3 to see it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I'm really enjoying all the "true confessions" that this poll question has elicited. My story is similar. I was a voracious reader as a kid, and I would read any book I got my hands on. When I was around 10, I somehow got my hands on "The Story of O." I didn't even know what I was reading about, but I liked it.

I have often looked back and wondered. Did that book inform my sexuality, or did it merely uncork a bottle that was already present? Did it plant the seeds, or did it just water them? I've never been able to decide.

For years I thought there was something wrong with me, and was ashamed of my fantasies. Then one day, browsing the porn section of a newly opened video store, I chanced upon a shelf of ZFX films. It was revelatory; if someone was making videos of this stuff, then I couldn't be the only one who liked it. "War Pigs" was my first choice, and is still one of my favorites. Those films blew the lid off, and really helped me learn to understand that there was nothing wrong with me at all. So thanks for curing my insecurities, Rick!

It's much easier to find and enjoy fetish material now, of course, but still not something you can really talk about with just anyone. Which is another reason I've always liked this board so much. Even though I'm not an active participant, it's a place where I feel safe.

I think my GIMP impulses started before puberty, perhaps around 9 or 10. I was a big fiction reader, and even as a child, I remember keenly enjoying the perils of the heroines in such books like "Castle of Adventure" by Enid Blyton.

When I was around 12 or so I got interested in my Father's collection of grown up fiction, and one book I read was "Ninja" by Eric Van Lustbader. There is a scene in that novel where the Japanese villain takes a hostess, strips her, slaps her breasts until her legs buckle, then ties her spreadeagle and proceeds to abuse her. I must have read that scene 40 times in my life.

I would then go to used bookstores as a teenager, and look for other such books. One that caught my eye was "The Fan Club" by Irving Wallace. In this book a group of Fans capture a supermodel and take her to a cabin in the woods where they tie her spreadeagle to a bed and all have their way with her in various scenarios. This one was more from the female's perspective which got me interested in both perspectives. I also read sections of this book over and over.

Other key influences for me were the Jalav series by Sharon Greene, or the Taarna scenes in Heavy Metal, or the Druuna series by Serpieri. It was difficult when I was a teenager to get any access to any harder stuff.

Finally about 12 years ago, with the explosion of the internet, I discovered sites that catered to my interests - Japanese GIMP, Galaxy of Terror, and ZFX (I'm a big fan of Lisa Kinkaid) and recently Red Feline (big fan of Amy).

I'm hetro, and I love women. Only in the slightest way have I acted out my impulses. At the same time, I enjoy visualizing the women's perspective of being sexually used vigorously, in peril, in bondage, non-consensually, and to complete exhaustion. I like to work this into my lovemaking. I'm horrified of any permanent injury, and I love the female form, no tats, etc.

Yet I keep these impulses very private, for obvious reasons. It seems strange to publish my thoughts, but I wanted to share to this group.

I find the responses to this poll interesting, as it makes me feel more normal. In high school I remember sharing some of my thoughts to some of my male friends and got a pretty strong backlash. So I felt for quite a while I was somehow bad/wrong/strange.

I'm probably on the softer side of the GIMP spectrum but I enjoy this topic.

BMan: I too have very fond memories or that scene in Thunderball. I actually saw this in the theater in the early 70's. They were re-running Bond films at the neighborhood theater as double bills, so I saw all of them at that time.

My memory of the scene seemed more extensive than the cut I always see today. I think we actually saw the cigar applied and the scene was a bit longer. Of course, that could just be my memory modifying it a bit, cause I was still pretty young. I would have loved a go at 'Domino' myself!

Did you see this a long time ago? Do you remember the scene being a bit longer when it was first out?

arrakur: thanx for the DeMulatto images. Having had close to 50 of the original books, I have desperately sought out his images online. To date, I think there may be only a portion of his work.

One I remember as a favorite was called something like 'Tortured by the Apaches'. I don't think any of those images have made it to the web.

You actually posted a couple of images I hadn't seen previously; so thanx for that.

Bill K: The interior images from those Men's Magazines are much harder to find than the cover images. I snap up any I see and have quite a collection. I will find a way to get them to Ralphus and he can do a run on daily pix if he'd like (at least of any I have that may not have been widely viewed before).

To All: Does anyone else know of any sites which offer pdf files of the Men's mags? I have found a few, some recommended by members, but damn few. Most of the ones I've found are the milder stuff.

In the very late 60's through their demise in the 70's, these mags were getting much rougher. Having had perhaps 200 of these mags at one time or another (all victims of my occasional purges of material to be a 'good boy' again) I remember that those were the choice cuts of the bunch, so to speak.

I have included a favorite interior image. This was one of my favorite stories that I still wish I had. *sigh*

My GIMP interest must have started just before or as I began puberty, when I was late 10 or early 11. Like many others here, I read a lot and was vaguely titillated in an unidentifiable way by the scenes of tied-up maidens in my kids books.

But it was a book of theoretically PG-rated jokes that ignited the spark in my brain. On about page 30, the entry -- definitely not anything that could be published today -- was about a cowboy moseying through the desert on his horse when he comes across a pretty, naked young lady tied spreadeagle to stakes. She begs for rescue, explaining that she had been kidnapped by a band of Mexican bandits, raped, and left to die tied like that. The punch line is the cowboy lowering his pants, saying, "Well, ma'am, I guess this just ain't yer lucky day."

The "joke" was illustrated, carefully using cacti, the horse, and the cowboy's hat to hide the naughtiest bits -- though none of the nearly-naughty ones. The combination of that picture and the idea that the helpless woman doesn't actually have to be rescued, that a man could seize and enjoy power over a woman and use it for pleasure, was a revelation to me. (BTW, I'm hetero and dom; those who prefer the reverse-gender or same-gender power plays are welcome to change the previous sentence as needed to cater for their tastes.)

Like Panthercan, I too started to haunt bookstores looking for more, and both "The Fan Club" and "Ninja" became part of my bedtime reading. I was also lucky enough to find both "Torture Tomb" and "Let's Go Play at the Adams", plus a few things with consensual bondage that helped me realize that my thrill came from the non-con stuff.

I spent quite a lot of pocket money on extremely trashy detective novels (the names now long gone unfortunately, because to keep them hidden I had to rip out the good pages and discard the rest), which contained scenes like the kidnapped woman's pussy being painfully packed with marbles so her captors could enjoy the texture as they anally fucked her until the ransom arrived, the sicko killer pouring liquid nitrogen into the slowly-strangling victim's speculum-opened cunt to freeze it gaping wide for the shock effect when the cops found her body in the meat locker, and the betrayer of the street gang being beaten, stripped, bent over a steel bar in a basement, tied wrist-to-ankle and limbs pulled wide, and gang-fucked before her dripping holes were made to sizzle with a blowtorch to make the point. These, plus a few non-fiction serial killer books, Vietnam torture articles (e.g. the Winter Soldier Investigation with its famous flare incident) from the library, and Amnesty International reports (I know, I'm a terrible person) of electrified tits and rat insertions, put many an evil dream in my head.

But I never had much by way of images. I lived in a small, religious town; one couldn't get the "good" magazines. I made do with detective mags from the truck stop, and when I was lucky enough to get a real porn magazine, I trimmed certain pictures so that the woman's hands and/or feet were out of frame and I could imagine they were tied. I never tried drawing ropes or chains on them; I always sucked at drawing. It wasn't until the Internet, and specifically Usenet, that I finally found the things inside my head brought to life in the scans of the 70s and 80s bondage magazines.

I did have one other fantastic stroke of luck that I think cemented my tastes. After our first few fumbling times (we were both virgins), my very first girlfriend helped a timid me understand that she was into being tied and taken by hitting me until I had no choice but to hold her down, after which she made it clear she was panting from more than just the exertion. I have no idea what good thing I did in a previous life to deserve it, and was already incredibly grateful just to have a girl willing to get naked with me (and who had parents who travelled a fair bit), when suddenly some of my early experiences began to include chases, struggles, buttons ripped off clothes, restraints improvised out of nylons, clothespins, ice dildos, melting candles, and other first steps. You know, same here. I still have the magazines, too. Of the big 3 mainstream porno magazines at the time, Penthouse was always my favorite because they had those great stories, all of them most likely fake (a big clue was the generic "Name and address withheld" at the end). We have 3 of them in the "More Authors" section of the GIMP FICTION section. They have the original artwork preserved along with the text. I have others I'll be adding in the future, just have to find some time.

What's interesting in the few that I've transposed is that while they describe these horrific crimes against female victims, each story ends with the bad guy receiving his comeuppance at the very end. I guess they did that to show that crime doesn't pay, even though these stories practically celebrate all the bondage and mayhem that comes beforehand.

Just to clarify, the three stories mentioned by Ralphus and posted here are not technically detective magazine content. They are taken from men's adventure magazines (MAMs), which existed alongside the DMs, but are a very different breed of cat. The recent artwork posted by Covers and others are also MAM material, not from detective 'zines.

I doubt many GIMPers bought detective magazines for the “stories.” The text inside was boring, probably fake police procedural stuff. Unlike the MAMs of the time, once you got past the covers, there wasn't much in those rags to endear them to folks like us. But man… some of those DM covers were awesome – and often worth the price of the whole issue. Here is the place to go to catch up on what you missed. Go to the photo collections and download the four zip files of DM cover scans. As far as I know, David Prince has digitally archived more of these babies than anyone else.

Thanks, Fritz! That's a new one to me. There is a ton of stuff on that site. Mostly too rough for my taste, but I'll spend quite a while rummaging through it all.

Today's cover is from All Man Aug 1965 V6 #5. I think this will be a special favorite of a certain member or two of this site.

This may be the I mentioned. Lord knows the titles are tough to remember. They had about 80-90 titles in the Bizarre series, so there might be other 'Savage' themed books.

Gimpers:

Fritz is absolutely correct to point out the difference between detective mags and the MAM's. I had a collection of both and I don't recall any tec mag that had erotic GIMP material inside. They were police procedurals which didn't focus on GIMPs; that is not in peril, just the murders -- and nothing about what might have led to murders.

In fact, a lot of times the tec's used pictures out of HOM mags (some Blakemore) on their covers! I don't know if they licensed the pics or stole them!

So, if you buy tec Magazines, realize you will be largely disappointed outside of the covers.

For story content, the best MAMs are from the end of the run mid 60's through 70's (the end, really).

Ralphus: Fiery peril wasn't just a pic, but also featured in the story as I recall. You would have liked it!

CHALLENGE

There aren't many sites with pdf's of the complete issues of the really good Mam's. It would be great if Gimpers who owned a copy of these and who are technical to scan them in and convert to pdf's. It is time consuming, but if we each did one or two? Who knows.

Ralphus could add a new section for them. Also Gimpers could tell Ralphus what they might be working on, so that two members don't waste time on the same issue.

If this got robust enough, it could even be made a separate pay site with proceeds used to support the main GIMP forum. Ralphus could give contributing (and other) Gimpers lifetime free access, only charging non-GIMPERs. Good advertising for the GIMP as well.

Of course if it were to have commercial appeal, there would have to be at least 100 or so of the really good ones.

This is a bit selfish on my part. There are very few MAM pdf's that I have found, and I have never found any really good ones, like the mag painting in this post or the medieval babe in my last post.

Ralphus: Perhaps Amy could set up a limited ftp site for members to upload things to. This would make it easier for GIMPERs to supply you with bulk uploads. You would want to restrict it, of course, but it might be worth it.

I have perhaps >1000 MAM and tec images that I would love to give you. ftp would simplify the process.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane with today's cartoon, Ralphus! It's not the same version I had, but it's clearly the same joke.

Dan Hawke: I'm not sure about doing PDF files of complete issues of the men's magazines. Number one, I personally dislike PDF files. To me, they've always been an inconvenient format to read. And you need special software to extract picture files from them, which I don't have.

Number two, I have a half-dozen or so of those old magazines myself, and while they're an interesting curio, there's a lot of fluff in them, off-topic articles and advertisements that I skip through to get to the good stuff, that being the GIMP stories. I would prefer to just read the stories and look at the pictures. Generally, there were 1 to 3 stories in each magazine, maybe about 7 or 8 pages total, usually with sections continued on pages much later in the issue that you would have to skip around to find. That's why we've saved and consolidated the important stuff into one page in the smattering of stories we have archived here.

Number 3, as you mentioned, it would be a lot of work on somebody's part to scan an entire magazine. I don't know if we have enough readers with access to them that would be willing to take on a challenge like that. I know Sloth has a huge collection himself, but unless he volunteers, I'm not ask him to do all that work.

And then Number 4, I have no interest in charging a fee for anything on the site. We've always been a totally free site and as long as I'm in charge, no one will have to pay anything except for me and that's because I pay for the hosting anyway.

But as an alternative, I really would like to possibly have a separate section just for the Mens' Magazines stories, if we get enough converted to make it worthwhile. Right now, they're sort of out of place in the "More Authors" section of the GIMP Fiction section, but it's the best place we have right now to store them.

Thoughts on either mine or Dan's idea, anyone? Meanwhile, If you do have any of those old magazines and access to a scanner, please contact me.

Petelobo, nice review of Paintoy. I used to belong to that site. I agree with what you said about those guys seeming nerdy. One of them always reminded me of sort of a perverted George Lucas. Looks like I might have to check it out again, as from your review it appears that the quality of the models has improved. That was always my biggest gripe about that site. There were really only a handful of models that did it for me. My favorite was a model named Moxxie. Yeah, she had tats, which I know a lot of people here don't approve of (I can take or leave them). But she was nice to look at - sort of like Fairuza Balk with larger breasts. And she could scream like nobody's business. When she was being whipped, she sounded like she was being killed. Unfortunately, I think I read somewhere that this model has long since retired.

All work and no play has made Jack (or, since this is a French film, “Jacques”) a dull boy. He’s become bored with his job, bored with his wife, and bored with things in general. His boredom has carried over to his wife, who dreams of when Jacques wasn't a dull boy – when he would chase her in the park and playfully knock her to ground and kiss her tenderly. The maid is also bored; bored with having to attend to two bored people who have nothing left but their boring responsibilities. One day Jacques decides to take a trip with a business partner. He has no particular aim; just to get out of the boring house and away from the boredom of his marriage.

Obviously there’s a message here. I'm not sure what it is, but it’s there. French films of the ‘70’s had to have a message. I think it was in the French motion picture code or something. If you were French and wanted to make a movie, you had to have something artistic to your work. This philosophy comes up later.

So, Jacques’ business partner turns out to be somewhat effeminate, which triggers Jacques’ natural homosexual tendencies. But don't worry. He doesn't act on them, but they do explain the relationship between the two men, who seem to spend a lot of their down time staring at each other and smoking cigarettes profusely.

Cut scene to a woman at a police station, claiming to have been attacked by a horrible-looking man, who knocked her out. When she came to, she was tied up in a cellar and could hear the voices of the man’s accomplices; it sounded like two men. They didn't do anything, she says, but “that awful monster stripped me and lashed me all over, but hard!” She then lifts her shirt to show the inspectors the lash marks. I didn't see any marks, but we do get to see her tits, so here they are.



The two policemen give her a series of photos and she excitedly points to one.

Cut scene to Jacques and his semi-gay business partner. “Are you ready?” he asks. “I'm ready,” comes the reply. “Ok.” Jacques gets up, makes a phone call. “Well?” the semi-gay friend asks. “He’s coming,” Jacques answers.

An Ugly Man (as I'll call him) driving a plain French sedan is driving down the road when he comes up a pretty French maiden riding a bicycle. He studies her, the way her hair flows in the air of the countryside, her legs rippling gently as she pedals. He pulls ahead, cuts her off, and when she tumbles, she gets up and runs into the woods. Of course he catches her. Just about then, a police cruiser spots the bicycle and the sedan. The police study the scene, then one policeman says, “Lovebirds” and they continue on, leaving the Ugly Man to drag the maiden back to his car. When she comes to, she’s naked and chained to a rough stone pillar, like this:



For some reason, while she was unconscious, she managed to remain standing. I've never heard of that happening to someone who is passed out, because when my buddies get drunk and pass out, they go completely limp. But none of them are French, so maybe it’s unique to French genetics or something.

And another thing: when I watched the first “Red Feline” film, my biggest complaint was the ridiculously dim lighting. Apparently that’s a French thing, too, because the filmmakers of “Room of Chains” take a totally luscious young babe, strip her naked, then use red filters to ruin the lighting. Have a look if you don't believe me.



We also get stuck with weird camera angles and really bad sound dubbing. The music sounds like one guy playing a Mighty Wurlitzer. We don't see the whip, we don't hear the whip, and we don't hear her cries of anguish. All we see is her making (apparently) random spasms, like she’s going into convulsions or something. And, of course, the weird camera angles. And organ music.

Anyway, at first I thought Jacques and his semi-gay friend were wearing women’s housecoats as they peered through the peephole and watched the young maiden be whipped (which would have amped up the weirdness factor ten-fold), but instead they're just quasi-religious robes, which must be a French art thing because religion comes up often in the story. So Jacques and his friend turn away from the peephole and Jacques says, “He treated us to a fine performance tonight, didn't he. The way her body seemed to sway back and forth. What a risk he took, but what pleasure!” “You're going too far!” his friend warns. But Jacques counters his warning with “It’s he that goes too far. It’s the beast that lurks within us. He cuts our bonds. See how untroubled and calm we are now? Appeased?” His friend pauses, then says, “But where’s he?” “Asleep,” Jacques replies. “Until it’s time to serve us again; to bring us satisfaction and release.” He looks through the peephole at the victim. “Even her. Look. She seems so calm and pure; cleansed of all.”

At this point I was reminded of the Leopold and Loeb case, where two young high-thinkers attempted to get away with the perfect crime as an intellectual exercise. Maybe that’s what the filmmakers were going for here. I don't know. I'm not French.

Anyway, like all 70’s high-income French businessmen, Jacques dedicates time during his busy day to exercise on a stationary bike in his bathroom, apparently naked, while his semi-gay friend reclines in the bathtub next to him, unquestionably naked. They exchange some dialogue and apparently Jacques is actually named “George”, but I like Jacques better so we'll go with that. We also learn that he’s an outstanding citizen in the community, above the law (very much like Leopold and Loeb thought they were). Finally, we learn that the ugly man is responsible for returning the maiden to the spot where she was abducted, and sure enough, he does. She’s dressed in tattered clothes, covered in dirt, and looks very much like she took a tumble off her bike.

Later that day, Jacques attends a church service where they sit in wooden chairs instead of benches. Jacques begins to daydream that the maiden is naked at the organ, playing. Alarmed, he stands up, only to be pulled back down by his confused wife. Church is dismissed and they all go out.

“She was raped last night, did you hear?” the wife asks outside.

“It wasn't rape,” Jacques replies. He then goes up to the maiden and asks her how she’s doing, then begins to ask her what she told the police. Satisfied that she doesn't remember much, he bids her good day.

Back at the house, he sabotages his car, then goes to a police station in town to file a report that his car was stolen, in order to cover his tracks. The inspector, sensing a connection, then goes to the home of the first victim, the one that flashed her boobs to the police. She is only too happy to cooperate with an official police investigation and flashes her boobs again.



While this is going on, Jacques tells his wife that he’s having car trouble so he’s borrowing her car for a while. He tells her he’s not going to bother to fix it, just go ahead and trade it in.

Meanwhile, a young couple are out antiquing in the city, going from place to place on a small motorcycle. Now, let me tell all you single men out there that this idea is BRILLIANT because it means that you're not going to be buying a single thing. There’s absolutely no way you're going to get a vintage end table on the back of a small Yamaha. On the other hand, I did my antiquing in an SUV, so I ended up buying and hauling all sorts of crap I didn't need and no longer have. Trust me when I tell you that nobody is impressed with your furniture, except for interior designers and semi-homosexuals.

After the young man drops the young woman off at her apartment (which she apparently shares with her parents), we learn that she’s been keeping her relationship a secret from them because she’s afraid they wouldn't approve of him. One thing they certainly don't approve of is her going away for the weekend with some stranger, particularly with some maniac running around. The father even points out a newspaper article about it all. A fight ensues and she storms out, because her parents are being absolutely medieval about the whole thing. Right? Right. So, she runs back to the arms of her lover and there’s some romantic music and kissing and stuff. I was going to skip over this part, but then a nipple popped out.



After the coital love-making, the pair make plans for the future. Or rather, she says how wonderful it will all be when they're married, and he goes along with it, because, you know, he just finished having sex and he really doesn't want to kick her to the curb just yet.

Back in Jacques’ world, we find out he’s an antique dealer and his wife and semi-homosexual friend help run it. Jacques tells them he has to go out to run an errand and after he leaves, the wife and semi-homosexual friend have a brief discussion about how Jacques has been acting funny lately. The friend dismisses it, naturally, and tells the wife not to worry. He’s certain Jacques’ not cheating on her.



Jacques, meanwhile, is letting his thoughts wander to memories of the last victim, twisting in her chains against the pillar. She starts out naked, then is wearing a set of chainmail like Joan of Arc (why does religious imagery always tie back to her? Must be a French thing), and by the end he’s flashing to another session with another girl spread out on an altar, which is the scene that made me interested in this film in the first place.

I could describe the scene to you, but vidcaps do a much better job.







Intersperse this with shots of Jacques sweating profusely in his car as his nerves come undone. And what happens when your nerves come undone while operating a motor vehicle? You get into an accident, and that’s exactly what happens to Jacques. He hits the motorbike carrying the young couple who had spent the day antiquing, knocking the two riders unconscious. Seeing an opportunity, he quickly scoops up the girl and tosses her in the backseat of his wife’s car, leaving the man behind. As Jacques pulls away, the man regains consciousness and chases after his girlfriend’s abductor on the motorbike. Jacques casually stares at the beautiful girl in his backseat, thinking of all the naughty things he’s going to do to her, as he outpaces the motorbike and gives the young man the slip.

The Ugly Man appears, taking this new victim into the cellar playpen and stroking her young body like a lover. Now, because this is French cinema and high art, we get the red filter and Batman-esque angles, along with the Mighty Wurlitzer casting some mood music.



Now, right about at this point, I'm hoping this leads to something bigger than the human sacrifice play with the snake thing, because really, how can you top that? Look at the vidcaps! And now you've got a sleek-breasted young woman with gorgeous blonde hair and an unmarked body chained naked to a pillar. The possibilities are endless! So what does he do? Strokes her a little bit and then gets back in his car.

Dumb ass!

The next morning the motorbike rider goes to the police with a description of the vehicle and a rough idea of the driver, but he can't pick Jacques out of a photograph of a suspect in the crime spree, so the rider goes across the street for some breakfast.

Jacques’ wife has noticed that he’s been edgy and short with the customers, so she says something to him, trying to get him to open up. Instead, he announces that he’s going for a trip “in the country” with his semi-homosexual friend. At the same time, the police inspector goes to interview the biker, and in the middle of their dialogue the film jumps with a bad edit to a shot of Jacques and his partner driving along. His partner is worried. Jacques is acting crazy. “Yes, Mark, I am crazy. We're all crazy. Why should we pretend we're not? It’s our awareness that makes us completely crazy.” And suddenly I reflect back to Leopold and Loeb and I wonder if they had the same discussion.

Mind. Blown.

Jacques then goes to the police station, to inquire about the progress in recovering his car. As he goes in the station, the rider is coming out of the breakfast café with the inspector. Dramatic tension! The policeman says he believes the perps are using Jacques’ car to abduct young girls, and even admits that he wouldn't mind having a go at the girls himself. One of the girls, he says, stripped down to nearly naked just to show him her body! (Insert dubbed laugh) Right about then, the inspector arrives with the rider. More dramatic tension! But Jacques is a slick man and talks his way out of the situation.

Or so he thinks.

The motorbike rider follows Jacques and his semi-homosexual partner back to the chalet, where he promptly hops the wall and begins slinking about the grounds, looking for the missing girl, who just happens to be twisting slowly in her chains down in the playroom.



This scene is a little bizarre, but then this is 70’s French cinema, so we get these images interspersed with shots of church stained glass artwork while listening to the Mighty Wurlitzer. But don't worry. I'll spare you the religious iconography and just put up the good parts.



The rider skulks about the mansion and comes upon the semi-homosexual partner. A scuffle ensues and the partner gets away. Just then, Jacques runs past the rider as well. As the partner bursts from the chalet, he sees the wife waiting in the car. “What are you doing here?” she asks. Cut to the police inspector, pulling up the drive towards the chalet as well.

You can see where this is going.

Jacques’ cover story starts to fall apart. Cut to a scene of the rider scuffling with the Ugly Man by a riverbank. The rider fights like a girl and the Ugly Man gets away. For the moment. The police see the scuffle and pursue the Ugly Man, who slips and falls into the water. While two policemen fumble with a rowboat, the inspector simply waits on the shore for the body to float up. When it does, he pulls it out. There, it is revealed that the Ugly Man is actually…

Well, you should have figured it out by now.

Anyway, the dirty parts of movie peak at about the mid-point but since this is high-class French cinema, they actually focused on the plot, which really isn't all that strong because we never see the final victim get rescued, nor is she really tortured other than having to listen to a tape recording of organ music in some sort of sleep-deprivation thing. You can do a lot with a hot young French maiden chained nude to a pillar, but apparently those two imbeciles don't have the guts to do it. Then again, for all we know, she may still be down in that cellar, twisting in her chains, waiting for a rescue that will never come, just like “The Pit and The Pendulum”.

Wow. Mind. Blown. Again.

So is the film worth whatever Something Weird Video is charging you for it? Well, that depends on whether you like the vidcaps I've posted up, or you're really into 70’s French cinema, or really bad print transfers.

Thanks! I really do appreciate the feedback. It just goes to show that I don't just give out A's to all the films I review. Every now and then I review stinkers, too. Although, I will say this film was probably intended to be mainstream mid-budget rather than what we consider high-budget porn. It has elements of Jekyll and Hyde to it and it does attempt to explore the human condition of male dominance and female submission. So I give it props for that. But when you try to take a concept and make it too artsy, it can blow up in your face, which is what this does. Such a shame, too. All of the women are hot, even by 70's standards.

The Poll (part two): A post at the Beauty and the Birch blog (link above) yesterday inspires me to post a follow-up to my poll response. The Poll: I was somewhat of a "late bloomer" in this category. The first instance I can recall is when I went to an adult store with my best friend and his wife. (Yeah...awkward!) We were looking around, and some videos caught my eye. I couldn't help but look at them, and the content intrigued me. It was then that I found out this type of thing exists, and I sought out more of it. (By the way, the videos were from ZFX - perhaps you have heard of that company. ) This adult store had a video rental program, and I took many of these videos home to watch.

And then, a couple years later, I discovered this site, and my interest was piqued even more.

Just in case anyones interested as I've seen no mention of it here yet, but RingDivas has a new film in their heroine destruction genre (see my homepage url). I've been on the fence about them personally since they don't always deliver and are overpriced...but this offering ISN'T overpriced by my interpretation so fairs fair...about to give it a look myself.

Dan Hawke:  I agree it would be awesome if all those remaining MAMs could be digitized and posted. There are at least a few dozen issues available as PDFs from online merchants selling scanned adult material from the 60's and 70's. These sites generally charge for the content, but the prices I've seen have been quite reasonable – usually just a couple of bucks per copy. Like Ralphus, I'd prefer if all this material were available free, but given the time required to scan, clean up, organize and post the results, only the most charitable (and obsessive) of GIMPers would take on a project like this gratis, even if others assisted.

With guys like Sloth sitting on 700 copies, there certainly seems to be enough content out there. But the thought of getting all those issues digitized is more than a little daunting. I've got about forty MAMs myself, and I've never found the time (or motivation) to scan the covers, let alone the guts. Along with lots of other hardcopy material, they await that mythical day when I will wake up and say, “Shit, I've got absolutely nothing to do for the whole month.”

And despite Ralphus' masochistic delight in technological inefficiencies – he was retyping the MAM stories before I introduced him to that OCR voodoo – his aversion to PDFs in this case has some merit. He is correct in pointing out that only a fraction of MAM content is GIMP oriented, so along with the stories (which are awkwardly split across the magazines) lots of time would be wasted scanning and sorting through ads for X-ray spectacles, blow-up love dolls, and non-fiction exposes about the red menace and Nevada bordellos.

In fact, some MAMs have virtually no GIMP content at all, despite often lurid covers suggesting otherwise. As you point out, the more recent ones are better, but not all cater to our community. Seasoned readers will look for stories by Chuck McCarthy, Jim McDonald and others, probably all pseudonyms used by the same writer. Also, those distributed by Emtee Publications tended to favor GIMP fiction more than most. Still, Ralphus is right to cherry-pick the best stories rather than scan entire issues.

Besides, there seem to be lots of archivists doing just that, albeit slowly and for a fee. There is also a growing interest in the history of these once forgotten cultural landmarks. That means others are rounding up even the most obscure examples. Check out this book and this one for more info. The first one lists over 150 titles in its appendix. The focus is still on the covers, but I suspect it is only a matter of time before someone decides to sell story compilations as well. After all, where there's a dollar to be made…

BTW… I did scan the ten illustrations from that DeMulatto book. They are not the ones Arrakur posted. If you'd like them, let me know and I'll send the set to you.

@dryuya-i saw the latest "akiren" peril clip from ringdivas. $10 isnt much but I thought the AOH peril with Tessa Blanchard was pretty weak compared to what theyve done in the past. Their new girl Ava Presley filmed a Girls of War film recently so hopefully that will be better!

I must confess that after I left Ky. graduating high school and joining the USAF in 1969 I never looked at or bought a Men's Adventure Gimp magazine. The inside picture I talked about seeing in an earlier post was in 1965 or 1966, so really don't know that much about what was inside those magazines.

My comment "As nearly everyone surely knows very often the gimp pictures inside those magazine were more graphic, but still non nude, than what was allowed on the cover." I was guessing based only on few of those magazines I read that an older family member had when I was a kid. I could have been wrong.

Fritz, I find that the best sources for scans are usually poorly represented on search engines. I'm sure that there are many fantastic resources out there that are not indexed on any search engine, so forum discussions are a great resource. On that topic, does anybody know a forum specifically devoted to man's adventure magazines?

Blakemore is a controversial guy. What would you expect from a man who was probably THE INFLUENCE for Gimpers of a certain age. Even younger Gimpers seemed to flock to his images without knowing who he was until later (the CHAD series).

I met Geoffrey Merick at the first Bondcon I attended, back when it was still held in NYC. This was before I had managed to track down Blakemore himself.

He told me several interesting tidbits. First they called him 'Catfish Mengele' around the HOM offices cause of his southern roots and (at that time) his extreme imagery.

He also told of a visit where he and Barbara met and discussed some things. (I don't remember if the mountain came to Mohammad or vice versa.) They were conversing in a restaurant and Geoffrey said before they left Blakemore had practically picked up a waitress and had even talked to her about modeling! So that is in keeping with some of his own posts here. There is no doubt the man had charisma.

Blakemore: Regarding your biography, first you need to figure out whom you will be telling it to. If you focus on the work you did for House of Milan, you could put together an independently published book that would get a good reception in a niche market. You created a large body of work that has considerable respect. The book could contain, for example, a description of your preparation for the business, both on the procedural and technical sides, how you got hooked up with HOM, your working relationships with that company, stories of how you found models, your relationships with them on and off camera, stories of shooting your loops, longer movies, and still shoots, general production notes, the sources of your creativity, how things got shut down, etc. All that would be of interest and be of cultural value. Including too much of the sexual goings-on in your personal life, except as they reference your public work, might be off-target. The published interview with Ralphus was a good start in a good direction. Where-are-they-now stories from models you are still in touch with would add greatly to the interest. So would commentary from Barbara Behr if she can be found. Your legacy is HOM. Talk mainly about that and what in your life is directly is relevant to it, and you would have a winner.

I don't know what TRGs thinking is that Blakemore's biography should just focus on film career. To me this is very superficial. I want to know the mind of the man who produced these films. I think it would be much bigger of a seller for the reader to understand what shaped the mind of Blakemore and gave birth to his art.

Blakemore, I'm 51 years old and it seems my slut punishing days are well behind me. Along with the fact that my past efforts seemed to actually do more damage to my own body than to my willing victims (repeated ruptured discs and nerve damage which made fucking my victim too much strain), but also increased the level of external danger from crazy women and jealous boyfriends. It's not that opportunities don't arise, but it's just easier on me to watch a good gimp film, as hard as those are to find as well.

In that time between 40 and 45 years old when I unsuppressed from fear of my mother's judgement and felt no doubt that it was ok to be me and that there were women who liked it, it was like night and day how women acted around me. Though I'm a decent looking guy, women did not give me much attention up to that time though my wife was quite hot. If I tried to talk to a really hot girl I usually got treated with disdain and contempt. When the switch flipped at 40, I could just be standing in line in a store and good looking young women would lock on to me like a deer in the head lights. A cashier at Sam's club got fired for responding to me as I told her how sexy she looked bent over on her knees zapping the price tags on my cart. Interestingly most of these girls really looked like nice Catholic girls. I also had hot hard body women approaching me in the gym right in front of my wife. Some as young as 19. Thomas Chaser: Thanks for the review of Room of Chains. I've actually seen this movie, many years ago, although I don't think I actually watched it for the plot. I recently went back and looked at my highlights tape, which mainly consisted of scenes of women being captured and chained up nude, which you covered pretty well in your vidcaps. I know you only gave it a C as a movie, but for the GIMPage, there were several minutes of really good edited highlights. I'm glad I saw it and I think it's a worthwhile view. I agree the print is awfully scratchy, but it's probably the only one Something Weird Video could find. Movies like this deserve to be restored; it's a shame so many of them are in such rough shape.

Blakemore biography: I actually proposed this to him a few years ago. Except I wanted this to be a real book, you know, like on Oprah's Book of the Month Club (yeah, like that would ever happen) but he said he could never do that because his wife would divorce him. Still, I think a book about the world's greatest bondage pioneer has commercial possibilities, given the success of the 50 Shades of Grey books. Bondage is now in the mainstream. And once people read about everything he's done in his life, I think it would enhance the controversy and create a real buzz. Whether people believed everything or not, it really is an amazing story.

At any rate, I know he does want to tell his life story, and a chatty guy like him could easily churn out 200 pages in a short time. As long as the interview was that I did with him a few years back, that was edited down from several hours of tape recordings. The man loves to talk, and he's got a lifetime of stories to tell. Personally, I agree with TRG that the years with House of Milan creating his bondage classics is what I would want to read more about. The other stuff about his childhood and upbringing that influenced him is important, but he'll be remembered for what he accomplished.

BTW, "Catfish Mengele" is an awesome nickname for Blakemore. I had never heard that story. Being referred to as a Southern version of a man known for torturing prisoners is a perfect compliment for a bondage filmmaker.

Another nice cover from this magazine. Somebody's asking about the pirate spit roast story from one of these sweat mags. The stories were written by pros and are more provocative because it doesn't spell out every detail. As in all good art, less is more.

Hey all. Geoff Merrick here. I'm glad the man I dubbed Catfish Mengele is still around and kicking, as well as willing to openly discuss the origins of his interests, among other things. He was always a strong, unique voice in the industry, and I'm glad/hope that things haven't changed.

Although I was excited by Blakemore's films (more so, in fact, than Bishop's own ... Bishop, to me, will always be a an artist in airbrush primarily), my mission statement was the opposite of his. Actually, I always used his film title "Bitch's Just Reward" as marching orders ... in the opposite direction. I wanted to create and present sweet, pretty innocents who were unwilling and underserving of their fates worse than death rather than nags and cockteases. Unrealistic, perhaps, but that's the shape of my pet perversion.

This is not to say all Catfish's characters were just that. I still remember many of his exceptional plots, story-telling, and actresses; his work never failed to stimulate and even frighten me with its power. And now that I've read its origins, little wonder. His was a far more intense baptism than my own.

Since he was east coast and we were west coast, I never got to meet him, but I do recall talking to him on the phone just once from the office Bishop and I shared. I recall the conversation back in the mid-80's as civil and interesting, but recall no specifics otherwise. I seem to recall that he was not overjoyed with my nickname for him, but I don't remember whether he told me or that was passed on by Bish.

All I know is that my paltry two HOM videos pale in comparison to his output and power. I only hope that my Tyler novels can approach the potency of his work. Good to know he's carrying on with style.

Just to speak to Blakemore's post: I don't think _anyone_ on this forum is judging you. There's always going to be some naysayer, somewhere, but fuck 'em. You've led a hugely interesting, prolific life, and have inspired quite a few people!

I for one would definitely be interested in a Blakemore biography/autobiography. But it would be a "living" one, in the sense that we all hope he will come out of his self-imposed retirement and make more films? Do it now JB, the faithful await.

Pedro of Mood Pictures once mentioned that he had been inspired by a scene in one of Amy Hesketh's Pachmana Films productions, and recently readers of this forum have been talking about books/movies/films that got them turned on to the GIMP scene. Some very familiar titles and thought processes there.

Arcas recently posted up the above image and asked "There's a story there somewhere", so I set out to find it. My result is available NOW for free at [ralphus.net] , complete with Arcas' orginal artwork. I'd like to thank him (a) for posting it up, (b) for issuing the challenge to write a story to accompany it, and (c) for allowing me to include it in the library for posterity. It really helps set the opening and closing scenes. As I was writing those passages, I started to remember some pics that Margot of Red Feline had posted, of Amy hiking in the mountains, and as I wrote the ending I started thinking "You know, she'd be perfect for this role if they ever decide to do a film with it".

Anyway, give it a read and let me know if you like it or not. Criticisms always welcome - particularly as to how hard or soft to go in any particular emotion (horror, misery, pain, sadness).

Sure... but is there any precedent for saying that what happens on the microscopic level should be mirrored on the macroscopic? I guess you could argue that the mission and nature of sex is the same, regardless of the biological level its manifesting, but when you put more advanced minds in the mix - even birds - you usually end up with a courtship/foreplay overlay which gives the female an option.

Yes Arcas, I would say that it all is mirrored at every level, but modified by mind and free choice. She was being hounded by the paparazzi every day, her life was turned upside down, every day there was some new lie (or half-truth) printed about her in the tabloids. Some people respond well to pressure, others, like Britney, Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan, Justin Beiber... there's hundreds of young stars out there...crack up and go nutso. Simple as that.

In the case of Marilyn, she died before I was born, but over 50 years later, the conspiracy theories about her death have produced countless books over the years. Bobby killed her. JFK was jealous of Bobby so he had her killed. I gotta admit, the "taken to a medieval torture chamber and THEN she was killed" story was a new one on me, but it doesn't surprise me that someone came up with that one, too.

Again, I'm not saying it was something you made up. I sincerely believe you heard it somewhere and believed it, and recounted it here.

Last November the airwaves were rife with 50-year old conspiracy theories about the most well-known murder in US history...Kennedy's assassination. Oh, it was the mob that did it. No, it was Castro. No, it was the CIA. I watched a JFK show and 4% actually believed it was aliens. I kid you not. That was one of the choices. People will believe anything.

The thing is, if you examine the EVIDENCE, and only the evidence, it was very clear who killed Kennedy. It was Oswald, acting alone. I know, people don't want to believe that it's possible that one man, acting alone, could have taken out the most powerful man in the United States. I mean, it had to be a conspiracy, right?

No, logic and the evidence dictate otherwise. It really was just one guy.

That doesn't mean I consider people who believe otherwise to be "liars". Far from it. I simply don't subscribe to the same theories. Same case as here. There's no disrespect intended, and I feel bad that you feel it was a personal slight because I don't believe all the same things that you do. I simply don't.

And I haven't thoroughly looked into those groups you mentioned, Project Monarch, the Trilateral Commission, the Builderburg Group, etc. Who knows, maybe if I spend the time investigating all that stuff, maybe I'll change my mind. I'm open to new ideas. Certainly, you've been around longer than I have and have the extra time to study up on that stuff. Right now, I'm just talking as an average citizen and saying right now I don't believe the stories about Britney or Marilyn (or JFK, either, if you're one of those conspiracy theorists). It's not a slight against you. I'm just saying I'm not convinced.

Regarding the hostility directed towards me in your past few postings here, I'll attribute that to the hour being late when you wrote them. I don't know about you, but when I'm up early in the morning or late at night, I don't often think straight. By the next day when I'm awake and my mind is calmer, I tend to be a little more logical and don't get so emotional. We all say things we later regret, so no worries.

Ah Blakemore and Ralphus: When you know certain facts which are contrary to the belief system of others, and then you point out the facts or preponderance of evidence which shows those beliefs to be false, almost 100 percent of the time those minds will engage in cognitive dissonance. Even us perverts are not immune.

The thing Blakemore says about how this world is really structured are backed by preponderance of evidence which grow greater every day. Many are waking up. I've seen too much first hand proof myself to ignore it. I've lost friends and family pointing it out to them because it took them too far out of their comfort zone and then have them come back to me when they no longer could escape the truth of it.

As for Blakemore's stories. We don't have a way to know for sure if they are all true or not. I could tell you my last opportunity to have a woman was a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and you have no way to verify it though it is absolutely true. Yes, I mean it really did happen. What we do know about Blakemore is that this is a man who does not need to lie or embellish because his real life is unbelievable. In fact none of us would believe him if he didn't have the films and pictures to prove it. Mind you, he did this in a time when such activity was very dangerous and could land you in prison. This shows that the man had some serious balls to go where no one in America had gone before. This man had to have experienced some very unusual circumstances to have been the one to get these women and produce these movies. I mean, can you imagine being in 1968 trying to find women to produce these films? So I think we can give the man some leeway. I don't think it is a leap to accept it is possible he has connections to people and information which is outside our humdrum little lives.

On the contrary, I've tried to be the best friend I could in the 4 or 5 years we've known each other. When you wanted to post to the forum and interact with your fans, I helped you out the first few times and showed you the way to do it. I uploaded pictures for you to help you out. I put together the interview with you on the site so your work could get re-discovered by a new generation of fans. I didn't do this as a favor, I did it because it was my honor to be able to interview and interact with the great John Blakemore, one of my heroes and a man whose work is legendary in the bondage industry.

Now, I've known from the start that you're a unique guy and you've had an amazing life. And I also know that some of the stories you've told me over the years were...well, they were way out there. In a few cases, I even told you directly, face to face, over the phone, that I didn't believe you. And when you've spouted the same theories on the board, like 7 out of 10 Playboy Playmates get abducted, raped and tortured, I took you to task, in a humorous way. Same thing with these most recent tales about Marilyn and Britney. I tried to poke fun at what I thought were absurd statements. Rather than laugh it off and show that you had a sense of humor, you chose instead to get angry at me. And you've continued with the anger, even after I tried to explain myself.

Frankly, you're destroying the good will you've built up over the years toward your fans. You're coming across as an angry, paranoid old man who rants about wild conspiracy theories and insists we accept them all at face value simply because they came from you. And if they challenge you, you lash out at them. It just happened to be me on the receiving end this time, but I've not been the only one. I'm just the latest.

I don't want to see your reputation sullied in this way. Years from now when you're gone, I want people to say, "John Blakemore, he was a great bondage pioneer." Instead of what they're likely thinking now, which is "John Blakemore, he was a great bondage pioneer...but what a paranoid asshole."

Today's picture looks like one if those photographer conferences where one guy hires/asks for volunteer models for a day for a photoshoot, then charges other photographers to attend his conference on photo technics and then apply them in a controlled setting. I get this vibe from the girl in the background being prepped for her pose by a couple of production assistants.

Yes, there's other captchas out there. I don't like the ad, either. Ads are annoying, and captchas in general are annoying, too. But when you're getting 8-10 spam posts a day, something has to be done. As I posted earlier, this new system surely didn't keep the spammers away on Day One. But there's only been one spam post that got through today, which is a big improvement so far. Of course, posts are low today, too, which probably has nothing to do with the other thing.

I don't wanna bug Amy right now. She told me she's really busy, plus she put off a bunch of projects to get the new forum running, and she's got a full schedule coming up. She's gonna be burned at the stake next month. We'll see how this new system goes for a while.

I am and have always been...(especially after Vietnam)...secure in knowing who and "what" I am and it's like the snake said to the lady..."you knew what I was when you took me in." Yes, I AM sure of myself and my abilities and sometimes I can be an arrogant Son-uv-a-Bitch. *(But she WAS a drop-dead-gorgeous Bitch.) That does not excuse my harsh words and it is only because I actually DO care what you all think of me that I offer what follows...not as an excuse but as a reason.

First...I "believe" in absolutely nothing. I do not "believe" the world is round because IT IS and no act of "faith" or "belief" is necessary for us to KNOW that. You see, I associate "belief" or "believing" something to be true with a LACK of facts...of unbiased data and/or first hand observation. There is a vast difference between a person being "stupid" and a person simply not knowing...(or being "ignorant" of)...FACTS that if they knew there would be no need to "believe" or not "believe".

Why does it make me absolutely livid when someone tells says..."I just don't believe that"? Simply put, because I have never ASKED anyone to "believe"...to take on "faith"...anything I say because I just assume that they already KNOW I do not and never have "Bull-Shitted" anyone and when I tell someone about something they find "unbelievable"...(because through no fault of their own they don't have sufficient facts for what I say to fit into what they already know in such a way as to add to their knowledge...rather than being rejected as "unbelievable".

I ain't saying shit-more about that, other than what I told him DID NOT FIT into his limited mental-data-base and to have accepted what I said as true would have meant HIS judgment was flawed and he was too insecure within himself to do that.

Then there were the years during which "Law Enforcement" in the form of 2 particular Detectives made it clear to me that I was being kept under surveillance for 15 years and tried every trick in their book to pressure me into stopping even though what I was doing was in no way illegal but being good Baptists it was their "God-given" duty to take me down. They got the I.R.S. involved for over 4 years of never ending shit...(like asking me "approximately how many pairs of panties does your wife have?")...all because none of them had SUFFICIENT FACTS to know that I was not and did not force any young woman to do anything for me before or behind a camera. They just couldn't believe me because with their limited knowledge...(like yeah, the world was still flat for them)...what I told them was "unbelievable".

Everything I told them about how a film was made was to them, so "unbelievable" that for a little over 2 years I was not just the "Prime-Suspect" in the mutilation and rape of 23 young women...because 14 of them had modeled for me...THEY KNEW I was the guy! (Yes, that is just how fucking STUPID cops actually were because they couldn't "believe" me OR THE WORD OF EACH OF THE 14 OF MY MODELS either.

And guess what? It took the Bastards from 1987 until 2000, but they WERE finally able to destroy my reputation as an International Muralist and the very credibility of my wife to hold a Secret clearance at her job. Oh yes, $26,875 later I was exonerated but they finally had their revenge.

I've been lurking here on GIMP for a long time.

In brief, I've always had a passion (which, to answer to the poll's question, started when I was 7-8 years old) for torture/interrogation scenes.

In 2010 I discovered the work of an artist who remains my favorite in the 3D arena: Arcas.

Shortly afterwards I started to try my hand at producing my own art with DAZ

At first, I contacted Arcas for advice, but with time our exchanges of ideas became a close friendship, despite the cospicuous amount of sea water separating us.. ;)

For this reason I've thought that - as my introduction - the best option was to post an image that is actually the fruit of one of our collaborations.

Review: The Image

Radley Metzger, the director who gave us The Opening of Misty Beethoven, and Barbara Broadcast, made this movie right before he went hardcore. It is one of his best and most intriguing films, based on the book, L’Image by Jean de Berg, a pen name of Catherine Robbe-Grillett, the wife of noted French author Alain Robbe-Grillett (The Erasers).

The Image is a psycho-sexual drama in which Jean (Carl Parker) and Claire (Marilyn Roberts) play out an extended seduction with Anne (Mary Mendum) serving as their battleground while attending to her own desires.

Jean meets Claire at a party. Though he has known her for years, and considers her to be an attractive woman, she has never aroused any real emotion in him. Claire spends her time staring at a beautiful young woman, dressed all in white. Jean asks Claire who she is. Claire answers, “Just a young model.” “And?” “And, she belongs to me.” Claire adds, “You can touch her if you like. You'll see, it's very pleasant.”


Claire invites Jean to go with them on the following day to a rose garden, where Anne is punished for picking a rose against park rules (even though Claire ordered her to). In a secluded area, Claire forces Anne to lift her skirt high, exposing her bare thighs and sex. In punishment, Claire pricks Anne's thigh with a rose thorn.


A week or so later, a chance meeting between Jean and Claire on the street draws Jean fully into the off-beat sexual relationship between the two women. Claire invites Jean to see some photographs she had taken of Anne. They show Anne in successive stages of undress, bound in chains and suspended, blindfolded, screaming. The final photograph of Anne shows her collapsed on the floor, her body covered with whip marks. One more photograph shows hands that obviously belong to Claire. Jeans says, “This photograph there, is that still Anne?” Claire says dryly, “Who else could it be?”


Anne is then summoned and told she will be punished for having been rude to Jean when she came across him at a book stall a few days earlier. Anne removes her clothing and after several rounds of introductory abuse, ends up kneeling in front of the seated Jean, her wrists chained to the armrests of his chair, and is whipped. She is then forced to perform oral sex on Jean as Claire fingers her to orgasm. The duo is now a trio.



Claire gives little Anne to Jean to have whenever he wants her, to amuse himself with her however he pleases. Anne is repeatedly abused sexually by both Jean and Claire in public. She performs oral sex on Jean in a parked car, a telephone booth, and a pissoir. Never allowed to wear panties, Anne stays still in a posh restaurant while Jean reaches under the table to push small vegetables into her vagina. Jean takes Anne shopping for lingerie and ends up with the mostly-naked Anne performing oral sex the shopgirl (Valerie Marron, credited as Yvette Hiver), who in turn goes down on Jean. Following the shopping trip, Jean and Anne meet Claire in a tea room where the standing Anne is forced to give the party’s order as she is being finger-fucked from behind by both Jean and Claire.



In her climactic scene, Anne is suspended from an iron chandelier, naked and bit-gagged. Claire and Jean take turns torturing her, Claire by poking her with sharp cheese pick, and Jean by beating her with a whip that Anne herself bought that morning for this very moment. In torturing Anne, all pretense between Jean and Claire is laid to rest. Claire sits in the shadows while Jean whips Anne savagely, perhaps wishing it were her who was on the receiving end of Jean’s attack. Once Anne is past the point of responding to the blows, Jean takes her down to the floor and enters her roughly. Her two tormentors having done all they can to her, Anne decides to leave, which she had been free to do all along.





Claire is now distraught, with no intermediary between her submissive desires and Jean’s urge to dominate her. The next morning she goes to Jean’s apartment and submits herself to him, naked, and kneeling with her arms raised, in the same fashion that she had required of Anne in the beginning. Everything has resolved itself. End.


The Image is about sexual power: who has it, how it's expressed. There are hints that Anne has a dominating personality, submitting herself to Claire's whims only because it excites her. Thus, Anne could be catering to her own needs by using Claire, while Claire seems satisfied enough that Anne obeys her every order without question. Jean, intrigued by the picture he saw earlier of what has to be Claire's hands, and which she must purposely have shown him, marks time with Anne until her final punishment, which he uses to force Claire to make her real self known to him.

When Anne decides enough is enough, the Jean/Claire relationship drops its pretense. Anne, in essence, swaps roles with the ice-cold Claire.

But let's not have this be a lack of appreciation for what Anne goes through. Mendum's fawn-like beauty and willowy figure heighten both Anne's torment and our desire to see how much she can take (a lot, it turns out). The beatings she receives are muted visually, though, the whip seldom being shown near her body, and only tangentially at that. Their brutality is portrayed by crackling whip-on-skin sound effects, and her vocal reactions. When she screams in pain non-stop for over five minutes in the penultimate scene, you get the idea.

Technically, the film has first-rate production values. All those technical matters, like lighting, set decoration, makeup, wardrobe, hair styling, art direction, cinematography, sound, are all at the top of mainstream standards. Interiors were shot in New York City, exteriors in Paris. The transfer from film to DVD, made from the original negative, is brilliant. It is a lovely movie to watch for that reason alone.

There has never been a mainstream S&M movie like this one. Just Jaeckin’s Story of O comes close, but The Image is more layered and far closer to reality. It is a product of the permissive cinematic standards of the 1970s. Given today’s legal restrictions on film-making, and the social boundaries that have been erected in front of even the consensual S&M treatment of women, there will never be another one like it. This gem needs to be in your S&M movie collection.

To see more of Mendum, her work with Joseph Sarno, under the name Rebecca Brooke, is recommended. Special mention goes to Valerie Marron, a New York hardcore starlet, who was awarded the Grand Prix de Fellatio as the shopgirl. Not for nothing was she hired for the role. Lynn: Appreciate you posting your opinion. As far as removing Blakemore's recent posts, I agree, they were abusive. And if the abuse had been directed towards anyone else here except for me, they likely would have gone bye-bye. I had to do that with a post a while back that was an all-out attack against a number of people here. But generally, I try to give people a bit more latitude if they have a personal beef with me...I have thick skin and I can take it. Plus I have the confidence I can win a debate with whoever it is that's going after me with me because I'm always right.

As far as foul language, if I were to remove every post where Blakemore cusses, probably none of his posts would ever survive here. Blakemore is a profane guy; I've known that from the first day I met him. He's got that Southern old-school salty way of talking. In a way, that's part of his appeal and why he's such an interesting guy, but I can see how some would be offended by the words he chooses to express himself. It tends to irk me when I watch a Tarantino or a P.T. Anderson film and every other line is mother fucker this or shut the fuck up. Not so much the language, but because I think it takes more skill to write a line of dialogue and NOT use profanity, and yet these guys win awards for it. On the whole, I don't think most people really talk that way. Around here, people tend to employ a level of decorum and I appreciate that we're a pretty civilized and well-spoken group of pervs and sick fucks. And that's why when we get posts from people like Blakemore, they really tend to stick out.

TRG: Apologies for the silence of the board regarding your review of The Image, but I want you thank you for all your fine work. That was an extremely well-written account of an S&M classic, and I might even concur with your grade. I saw this film years ago under the title The Punishment of Anne (a much better title, IMO) and was blown away by just how entertaining it is as a movie, period. Honestly, for the most part, the best mainstream GIMP films contain a few good scenes but the rest of the movie is crap. There are a few exceptions, like A Clockwork Orange, for instance, and this film would fall into that short list as well.

Plus you certainly have to credit the casting of Mary Mendum, a very cute girl with a perfect body, as the submissive here. Some might be put off that the entire film is based on a consensual relationship, but there is clearly torture involved in the climactic scene (there's a video link in the Hot Iron Database if you want to see part of it).

If any of you have not seen this movie yet, Netflix has it. It's definitely worth seeking out, and you're not going to see a better example of S&M portrayed in a mainstream film (although it would likely be rated NC-17 for the fellatio scenes today).

Your review is testing my memory, as I know I saw the film at some time but I can't remember when. Not all that long ago, though, relative to the age of the movie. I guess the fact that I'm struggling to recall when I saw it confirms that it didn't have much of an affect on me. Of course, I'm not a Story of O guy, either. Now, A Clockwork Orange, on the other hand....

Today's cover is from All Man July 1964

I can understand why not many of you have seen or heard of The Image. It’s a hard movie to know about. That’s why I wanted to add it to the list of movies in the GIMP movie index. It’s about as far from ZFX or HOM as you can get in its portrayal of bondage and whipping.

I found it at Borders about ten years ago quite by chance when I was rummaging around in their softcore DVD section. The cover shows a naked woman, shot full frontal, with her arms chained over her head. (Comic sound effect of a car slamming on its brakes: “How did they let THIS movie into the store?”) Boy, did I take that one home.

I know I gush over the HOM stars, which they deserve, but then there’s Mary Mendum. Wowf! She has sixteen listings at imdb.com, and I have found fifteen of them. Obsessing a bit, maybe? She really isn’t a very good actress, but what a face and what a body. A re-issue of one of her Joseph Sarno movies contains a video interview with her, conducted in ~2008, when she was in her late 50s. She had put on a lot of weight (sigh!), but came across as a warm and friendly person. She died by drowning in a boating accident in Florida in 2012.

The Image is one of the five pornographic novels that Susan Sontag regarded as belonging to literature. Most of the dialogue in the movie was lifted directly from the book, which you can find at Amazon (it’s only 94 pages long). The book also has a fascinating preface, by Pauline Réage, the author of Story of O, on submission from the point of view of the woman. GIMPers, you need to read that preface.
