Thanks! I was wondering about the hand-cranked generators...
Questions:
1) Is current travel through the body determined strictly by where you place the electrodes, or is it determined by musculature/tissue/blood vessel type?
2) How "deep" through the body does the current pass? IOW, you have to assume that internally, with fluids (blood and all) present, there's less resistance than across skin, correct?
Sorry for the ignorance, you guys know I'm strictly fantasy based.
Q1: current is proportional to voltage and inversely proportional to resistivity (resistance) according to Ohm's law.
Again (Kirchoff's laws, etc...) current will allways tend to follow the lowest resistivity path: the closer the electrodes are and lower the body's resistance at the contact points, the higher (and morre painful) will the current through the body.
But there's no well-defined fixed value for the human body resistance, I've read values like 1 Megohms or more but this is a (very rough) average and not correct since human body/skin resistance can vary in huge proportions (from a few tens of kilohms to many megohms) depending on many physiological and external factors like: perspiration/skin moisture, skin condition, emotional state, placement/distance of the electrodes, etc, etc...
Some persons have a so high natural body resistivity that they can stand (relatively) high voltages without feeling too much pain, for best effect their body resistivity must be lowered by moisturing and that's the reason why in some E-T scenes you can see the use of a water vaporisator.
Q2: Here we're dealing with a much more complex 3-D electrical network with many (unknow) variables and it's nearly impossible to give an accurate answer. Also, the type of electrical voltage (AC, DC, Pulsed, High Frequency, etc...) will have a considerable impact on the current penetration factor into the body.
In BSDSM electro-play current path is (and should be) mostly limited to the superficial skin layers, deeper you go into the body most harmful (and deathful !) it could be.
