The first few minutes of the horror film based on the writing of Edgar Allan Poe feature lovely Morella (played by Nicole Eggert) nailed to an X-shaped cross and put to death as a witch. Her executioner does the deed with a hot iron into her eyes. It’s a disappointingly non-explicit scene, however. It’s filmed at such an angle that you never actually see the poker burn the skin, and there’s no rising smoke. Afterward, the resulting burns aren’t particularly believable either…she simply has her eyes closed with a bit a dark makeup and some blood down her cheeks. Too bad, because with casting like this, it had the potential to be great.
