Near the end of this historical drama, Jeanne (Hillary Swank) is whipped out on the public square. When she sees the executioner reach for a fiery brand, she panics, breaks free of the rope that’s binding her to the post and tries to escape. But others grab her and drag her back to the square, where the executioner forcefully jabs the hot iron into her chest, burning a V (the sign of a thief) onto her skin. The scene is marred by a musical track that deliberately mutes out the screaming and burning sounds and makes it more like a Masterpiece Theatre production. Some nice visuals, however.
