This Site Has Been Reported

Post by La Reine Margot »

We got this email from our hosting service:

Hello,

We are writing to inform you that we have received a report concerning content on your network that violates our Terms of Service and applicable laws.

The material in question is related to sexual abuse and can be found at the following location:

(there is a link to an image of an underage girl)

We urge you to remove this content immediately and reply to this email once the issue has been addressed. Prompt action is necessary to avoid potential suspension of your domain or hosting services.

In accordance with federal regulation 42 U.S.C. 13032, providers of electronic communications or remote computing services must report any apparent violations of federal child pornography statutes to the CyberTipline at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. You can submit a report by visiting CyberTipline.

If you are located outside the U.S. and require guidance on reporting this issue to local authorities, please visit the INHOPE website for more information.

Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,

Digital Crimes Unit
Trust & Safety Team

THIS IS VERY SERIOUS!

Attachments cannot viewed at this time. We are trying to locate the reported image, which I have to say is pretty awful, if anyone knows where it is, let us know.

We hope that at one point things get back to normal however; if the hosting delete us, then that's the end of this adventure.

It is pretty awful that someone reported the site to GoDaddy, it's worse that there was such an image to report.

Reine Margot,

As I understand it you were able to see the image via the link sent to you by the hosting service.

If so, can't you identify the name of the file by hovering over the image and subsequently search for that file name in the media database?
Or maybe use the file name in the site's search field to find the post that contains it?

I hope you can sort this out and ban the offender.

I also wonder if this was not done deliberately by a hacker who managed to upload the image to the database and subsequently report the site using a link to that image.

No, it was not the result of a hacking attempt. Apparently, the image in question had been present on the FORUM for some time. One member indicated that they had removed the image, yet it still appears when accessing the link provided by GoDaddy. The image does not currently display because the attachments feature has now been disabled.

Current Actions and Response

We are currently awaiting GoDaddy's response to our email regarding this matter. In the meantime, we have decided to limit activity within the Forum to prevent further issues.

We are also considering disabling linked images and videos temporarily, as an additional precaution.

Potential Outcomes

If we are unable to locate and remove the problematic image and any others like it, it may become necessary to terminate the Forum entirely.

Next Steps and Community Involvement

The coming days will be critical in determining our path forward. If anyone is aware of the specific thread where the image was posted, please inform us so we can investigate. Should we identify the individual who posted the image, they will be banned—provided the Forum remains operational.

1. I don’t think the forum can continue to operate ‘freely’ longer. It’s only a matter of time—probably very soon—before it gets shut down due to reports. It’s almost a miracle that it’s still hanging on. A statistical anomaly.

2. Requiring users to register to view posts seems like the only option. Right now, anyone on the web can see everything; practically, the only people who register are those who post.

3. For this type of forum, it’s an incredible luxury— people even register for cooking forums.

4. It would also be better for the forum and the community if only those who really want to join made the effort to register. Producers pages and movie databases could (perhaps) remain without needing to register/ sign in.

5. This way, the forum can become a close-knit community of genuine fans.

6. It will also become much more vibrant, safe, and enjoyable.

7. There are also plenty of other clear benefits, like not being a site where one person posts and a thousand just lurk like shadows.

---Strictly respecting the rules again with the proposed format goes without saying.---

That's exactly that we were working on, to limit the viewing of the forum only to people that register.

We completed setting it up and now guests have access only to the landing page where they can only see the picture and link back to ralphus.net.

We are testing it and it's working out.

This is the landing page for GUESTS

Image

At the moment I'm working on this post, there are over 1200 Guests and 3 registered users. With so many GUESTS, mostly bots, there should be a lot more activity, right? But no.

We're going to see how this works for the next few days. If more users log in, that would be nice. There are over 1000 registered users.

On this, the 27th anniversary of the GIIMP, we're forced to take extreme measures for our protection. Any report against the site will come only from a registered user.

The RULE still applies, of course, violators will be banned.
