This is one of the few pictures of Dr Peter Smyth, a notorious 'Doctor', who was famed for his sadism. Typically he would select a new arrival to participate in his 'adjustment programme'.

Here a subject awaits the commencement of phase 1 of cold therapy by exposure to freezing temperatures

The subject is tortured by exposure to extremely cold temperatures. This will include being kept outside (usually chained) , naked in cold weather.


In this case it is ice cold baths.


Other methods such as being sprayed with ice water, or exposed to cold drafts for long periods of time, are often used.

Occasionally you find better quality photographs, this is estimated to be taken around 1998. 'Electro therapy' was (and purportedly is) a popular choice for the 'therapist practitioners'.

This photo is one of the more disturbing, as it shows some form of procedure being conducted on a young female subject.

It appears to be quite commonplace to bring in interns to conduct some of the treatments. Very often they would stand about chatting and laughing while a subject (often sedated) has to wait for the next session. Often (as pictured here) they are restrained with arms over their head, naked of course.

This is not an official photo as far as we can ascertain. It is thought that this was taken and kept for somone's own personal gratification.
