I mean, even grim-faced torturers working have to have some inner satisfaction, right? Even though they may not show it. The illustrations of laughing torturers somehow go a little too far for me, but that's just me.

I totally agree with that. Imo Hollywood, the porn industry, and the old pulp publications have really gotten it wrong in the past. A true sadist would be getting (sexual) pleasure from his victim's suffering, which would likely not show very much in his (or her) facial expression. They wouldn't be drooling at the mouth acting like a deranged lunatic, and certainly wouldn't be laughing manically as they tortured their victim. The old exploitation movies from the 60's and 70's were very bad about doing that.

Concur for a number of reasons... not the least of which is that I want to hear any sounds the subject, not the villain... I have no desire to hear him laughing or grunting... it's much more preferable to hear any vocalizations or other sounds from the girl...

It is that! Whether by accident or intention, this angle shows the contours of her body in a way that you just don't normally see. It shows the authentic reaction she is having!
