Attachments Suspension
Re: Attachments Suspension
I don't see that much of a problem with deleting posts that are at least 2 years old.
For those who would still like to see them, there's still the Internet Wayback Machine (archive.org).
Maybe provide IWM links to the respective years, done.

Re: Attachments Suspension
When the attachment option is off, the attached pictured don't upload. But they are there until we turn it on again. I'll do it soon. I'm making space.
More news later. The link to images outside the forum works fine, btw.

Re: Attachments Suspension
The Attachment option is on again. We're still high, at 97%, but it's better than 100%. We'll see how long it lasts. I recommend one attachment per day for those that love to attach pictures all the time.
It's better to link to outside servers, there's no limits to that.
We're still working on doing the upgrade.

Re: Attachments Suspension
If go back and edit an old post and delete an attachment do you get that memory back? Is it worth doing it?

Re: Attachments Suspension
One attachment doesn't make a lot of difference, but sure, it does give back a bit more memory. What we need to do is increase the capacity, from 250,000 to 400,000 to really get things to a better place. That will triple the cost of the hosting and eventually even that will not be enough, so we're looking into alternatives.
We're limiting the number of attachments for now, to 1 per post, until we get this thing resolve.

Re: Attachments Suspension
I really don't understand why you try keeping everything and seem to be going for increased storage capacity in spite of the high cost. This is just postponing the issue again till the forum reaches the new storage limit.La Reine Margot wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 11:09 amOne attachment doesn't make a lot of difference, but sure, it does give back a bit more memory. Is it really that difficult to go for a mass delete of everything older than a few years?

This has been repeated many many times... and is the ONLY long term solution to this problem.BobDarkroom wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 11:28 amI really don't understand why you try keeping everything and seem to be going for increased storage capacity in spite of the high cost. And all forum members seems to agree with this option.
Much better than limiting or suspending new attachments.
This was primarily a picture-driven forum, please don't let it die.

Re: Attachments Suspension
Yes! I think of all the original art posted by artists such as Artur-AE, SkatingJesus, Bleumune, WillieMacJ, to name a few. It'd be really sad to miss out on their posts.
