The following day they were put to work cleaning up the camp, as more girls kept arriving. I'm not surprised there's debate about my subject matter, I'm surprised it took so long, I've been exploiting the holocaust for almost 2 years, although in my fiction I victimize Gypsies, Slavs, and homosexuals as well but in this non-fiction story I have to stick to the original shipping manifest. Himler ordered 999 Jewish women, I can't change that.
The distance from Poprad Slovakia to Oswiecim Poland by rail was about 250 km.( 3 hr. drive today )
They weren't the highest priority traffic on the Nazi empire's rail network, their journey spanned two days.

I couldn't find much about the train itself but it was probably a Kriegslok locomotive ( 7,000 built for the war by the Germans ) pulling livestock wagons or box cars.

11:50 am. With all the switching, direction changing and slowing down, the girls were correct in assuming they were reaching the end of their journey. They were eager to get out of these smelly wagons, the waste buckets had tipped over three times in most of the wagons.

They were sided in a desolate wasteland to wait while guards and staff assembled.
Finally one boxcar at a time, the girls were unloaded. Michaela had counted days, and today was her eighteenth birthday she was supposed to be having a party, but instead, she was somewhere in Poland, she couldn't worry about that, one girl had already died on the train. And she was a Jew who had just arrived in a Nazi camp, she knew what the Germans thought about her kind.

Every second girl was sent to the showers.
Given a bar of hard soap and sprayed with a fire hose
Told to lather and scrub..
Then sprayed with the hose again
The final solution had not yet become policy, so the showers meant getting sprayed with cold water
(lucky break of which they won't get many).
