I think she's looking with disdain because the amateur placed her on a common chair instead of the wooden horse she clearly deserves.

Mmmmm..... I think the "amateur" is much more cruel and imaginative and this set-up is MUCH worse for the girl than the usual wooden horse.
Look carefully at the pics below (courtesy of petelobo): sh'es sitting on a copper tube heated by a gas torch, and (as we all know) copper is an excellent heat conductor, you can easily imagine what will happen next... this must be VERY uncomfortable for her after a while.
And BTW, copper is also an excellent electrical conductor... .

I did notice the rod, but the gas torch was out of the picture. Yes, devious indeed... but I still prefer the visual appeal of a traditional wooden horse. What can I say, I am a romantic at heart.
