What I could find about this (at the prodding of that pesky LL, may the Prophet send lice on his beard) refers to a Dutch practice and illustration and the accompanying text were refering to a side-to-side. But I can vouch no more than a copper dinar on the truth of it.
That's gratitude for you, I suppose... You always complain about lack of reactions, the keelhauling I FINALLY persuaded you to do turns out to be the pic with most reactions of the last three months, and you reciprocate with lice. The humanity!

PS I explained how it was done to get the rope under the boat. It works only side to side, can't be done front to back.

Everything I've ever read about keel hauling was side to side. LL is right, don't think it's possible any other way. Even if it were, it would be 100% fatal.

There's some truth but popularity of an image was not the sine qua non condition here. Personal gratification, that's missing. All the praise can't make up for the lack of it.

If I may, stop with the self-flagellation already, and accept praise gracefully. You can do the self-torment privately over a glass of wine. Or whatever is your beverage of choice.

You're a damn good artist, JD, with a unique style.

In case someone was worrying it's all tongue in check, of course. I'm best friends with JD, even if he would not confess to it even under his own tortures.

I think it's safe to say however, old friend, that some of your best, or at least most acclaimed, works over the last two years where made on my input.

Lea Elui on the water wheel.

Ciri (and later Yen, Henrietta...) on the "wheel of pain".

Ciri hanging from the bow.

Ciri on the wooden horse.

Sara Arfaoui on the wooden horse (ah, if only you liked her better I could make a whole story about her as a mulatto slave on a plantation in XVIII century Louisiana).

The pearing of Ciri.

Now the keelhauling, and I'm sure forgetting some.

I think it's time we were nominated for the Noble prize in the category "creative portrayal of pretty females being tortured".

Hence the fallacy. Aside from the dubios claim to call anything as 'the best' the truth is you like them because they touch your buttons (which differ greatly from one individual to another). I can accept a 'most prolific' or 'most out-of-the-box' awards, lol. Best, not that much.

Ah non, mon ami... no logic fallacy here. That's why I wrote "most acclaimed". Just check which works got most reactions and, where available, likes over the last year...

Ciri hanging from the bow? How did i miss this?

Also, it'd be interesting to see what she looks like when she was about to go over the side, and how she looks coming back up.

Skullchaser, my dear, try persuading JD... In my vision, it should have been at least 4-5 pics portraying the procedure: from her standing trying to stare defiantly at the captain who ordered the keelhauling, hands tied in front, two sailors at her side, to her lying unconscious on board in a puddle. Of course with pics 2 and 4 portraying her falling in the water and being hoisted up the other side. AND it should have been Yen, not because I prefer her to Ciri, but because it went better with the story I developed at Cruxforums around JD's maritime period.

But of course the man is right, if he derives no pleasure from this pics he should not be doing them, no matter how many fellow GIMPers yearn for them and would be ready to sing his praise...
