This likely has already been asked, but could someone with the specific knowledge describe how the various aspects of electricity relate to pain levels and permanent injury or even life risk?
I gather shocks in the heart regio are extremely dangerous, and thus the clichè in art work and fiction with a wire to each nipple is probably fictitious. But what about voltage, amperage, coloumb, watt, ohm... If I was to describe electrotorture in a story (I am NO WAY thinking about experimenting for real) what should I describe as high and what as low, for a realistic interrogation session?

The general rule of thumb is that it's voltage that hurts, but current that does the damage. The optimum point for making pain without killing your victim seems to be around 1,000 volts at 1 or 2 milliamps. This is where most electric fences and cattle prods are aimed. Wet skin can still pass too much current so a lot of those torture devices, like "pet safe" electric fences, are current limited -- they will drop voltage instead of passing too many milliamps. But even those can be dangerous if they pass their current through your heart. You gotta watch that.
The classic picana electrica used in many Central American torture chambers was the picture tube power supply of a black and white TV receiver, around 16,000 volts but current limited to around 1 millivolt. This did not have the nasty habit of accidentally killing people at the rate that line current, as the Chileans used, could do at only 220 volts with no current limit.
