Vision of Darkness is back

Post by lionrobe »

Artists, a new place for you
https://dark-art.net/

"The first part of this post is a repeat of the message to VoD members on the Welcome page in the Guest Lounge. It segues into the explanation for the Gallery structure.

I closed Visions of Darkness four years ago for personal reasons. It's a decision I've struggled with ever since and come to regret. I built Dark Art in the hope that those of you who were members might give me a second chance with a fresh start, and to offer new folks another place to hang out and share their work. I made mistakes and learned a lot while running VoD. I intend to put what I learned to use with Dark Art, starting with the gallery structure.

One thing that proved a constant headache was keeping extreme artwork separated from lighter content. There were two galleries on VoD - the Promenade and Back Room. The Back Room was for extreme stuff (death, torture, etc.). The Promenade was for subjects like shadowy figures stalking the night. Keeping them organized became especially problematic when artists mixed the two in their work. I never blamed artists, but I didn't enjoy the stress of deciding what was more appropriate for each gallery.

I'm not doing that again. Here on DA, all 3D art goes in one gallery, and all 2D art goes in the other. Apart from DA's visual appearance, the galleries are the biggest change from VoD, and I hope you'll enjoy the simplicity of knowing where to post as much as I'm going to enjoy the simplicity of moderating content.

The Artist of the Month gallery is back. It was a fun way to spotlight each other's work on VoD, so now it's here.

Thank you."

I liked that place VOD very much and when I was arguing for a structured place instead of the old liniar Ralphus board that's the one I had in mind. With it's full posts update list, feeling much like the old board but with the added advantage of allowing one to focus on one or more creators of his/her liking. Alas, the new Ralphus forum incarnation doesn't offer that functionality, to see at a glimpse what's new and it probably shows in the ratings, at least that's my feeling, that the floor traffic went down.

Would I go back? Probably not, unless big names like Jucundus are back, but even then, as a lurker. Anyway, the fact that the owner has a volatile personality (a nice guy, we chatted a bit) and might decide again to pull the plug when things are starting to pick up speed makes me rather cold feet.

As for the scope of the allowed material, still too restrictive for someone like me. VOD was a pure 3D enviroment, no PSP, no celebrities, no manips, kind of remove half of my output. The only plus I can think of, when compared to AU, that caters more or less the same needs, it's that it allows more 'final' (read morbide) 3D settings. AU for example don't allow cruxifictions while VOD would allow. But that's all.

Thanks lionrobe for the good news of the ressurection. Now it's time to locate those persky incredulous apostles.

Anyway, I'm already there and give him a chance. Chimera, Artur-Ae and Monty are already running around there. Together we are worth at least one Jucundus and a half Arcas ;-)

I envy those able to run on multiple platforms, I feel overwhelmed by mere 2 (here and AU). But, on the other hand, my crap wouldn't cut the muster in better places. :)

Nyghtfall3D has changed the name of the forum. The abbreviation for Dark Art "DA" has looked like the abbreviation for Deviantart. The forum is now called Pixels in Peril. See the link:
https://pixelsinperil.net

The old internet address will possibly only redirect to Pixels in Peril for another week.

Thanks @Zardoz for pointing out the concentrated power of artists in this new forum. ;)

By the way, when I joined there on Monday the forum had 82 members. Now there are already 131.
I would like to mention a few names that come to mind spontaneously: Ehliasys, mb109, Servus Venandi, Alexander (a "Blender" man, he used to call himself -Anwendungsfehler-), Aluafaen.

I've repeatedly requested access. I keep getting messages that the confirmation e-mail was sent to complete registration, but no confirmation e-mail ever shows up. I've checked my spam and trash folders.

I have the same problem. Tried to register, got a message that a confirmation email has been sent but I didn't receive any email (checked my junk folder also).
