I was more thinking a pillar or pole with a protruding dull spike as in a classic Aika Miura pic I don't have at hand to post ATM... but yes, your idea could work too.

I actually have a small story in mind about this girl (an Italian ballerina and tv starlet) telling how in the XVI century she's a noblewoman who is captured and tortured by pirates, then falls in love with one of them, and a year or two later is captured and tortured by the Spanish authority. This picture fits perfectly!
