The lasso circling his head he chased her across the prairie. His buddies cheered him on as she ran in panic, gasping and stumbling. Once he roped her, he would drag her back into town, behind his horse.

She was caught in adultery. They forced her to run the gauntlet, out of the village. Stumbling between two lines of villagers, striking her with clubs from both sides. Out on the prairie her punishment would continue. Since one man was not enough for her, she would be staked out where any man who wanted could have her.

Back in town they set the dogs on her. Everyone gathered around to place bets on how long she would last.

Among the Apache adulteresses were strictly punished. First they would have their long braids cut off and their scalp, dry shaved with a knife blade.

Then they would have their nose cut off. A woman, so marked would be divorced from her husband. No other man would have anything to do with her.

After they dragged her into town they gave her a good scrubbing in the horse trough before locking her up in the whorehouse.

She cleans up well.
