Conversatorium V

Image

Well, well, well… more challenging comments came our way and we must continue with this Conversatorium.

We normally do this intense exchange of ideas with our backers, but since there are so very few and we still need to encourage a few more to become enthusiastic supporters of a tremendous film series, I’ll expound on the comments.
Cruxlover24: Will we have scenes of the warrior fighting with some soldiers before she’s put to suffer?
Talissa the Warrior is kind of a legend because she kills Roman soldiers.

In the first film, Taia The Slave, Talissa kills the two Roman soldiers that stay behind to continue torturing Taia who is suffering a slow, agonizing death, up on the cross after everyone else is gone.

In the second film, Ide, The Egyptian Priestess, Ide is left to die on her cross, two soldiers are commanded to stay behind. Talissa kills them too, and after killing them she goes after Decius who is on his way to exile.

Those killings and the many more that happened before, make Talissa the hated terror of the Romans.

Image

In the third film Talissa goes after Decius, she doesn’t know his faithful soldiers are on their way to meet with him to help him out.

Talissa begins fighting Decius, the soldiers arrive and after a viciously violent fight they managed to capture her, make her suffer, a lot, then Decius takes her to the Governor as a trophy worthy of a reward and to regain his place in the Roman legions.

All beaten, tortured, wounded, Talissa is sentenced to be tortured on the cross.

Some of the details of what will happen to her, how, etc, will be shared with our Generous Backers.
https://www.paypal.com/donate?campaign_id=4J7DNEXYHW8J8
Cruxlover24: Awesome, will we have some shootings of her practicing or about the rehearsals for the fight scenes?
We might have some clips of Dani training and practicing for the fights. Again, we’ll share the Making Of clips with our supporters.

Here’s a music video we produced a while ago, Jac was the big producer while Erix was the director. The drummer is our cinematographer in many films. The video contains some sword fights.

Margot: “But there are lessons learned in every production and in the case of Seditiosa one lesson is to try not to shoot naked women crucifixion scenes in far away locations where the winds of June and July are too strong and the cold is unbearable… for them… not to mention the bright light of the sun that is too harsh and it burns the skin without being warm.”

wanttoknowmore
: Amen – so don’t miss the window of weather for this project.
We are taking the weather into account to set up the production dates for Crucified Four. We could’ve postponed Seditiosa until August 2023 but we would’ve have a lynch mob at our door.

We worked in a few of films on those difficult conditions before, Maleficarum, Justine, Olalla, to name three of the big ones, and a few others, one with Amy, and another with Mila shot in the same location of Maleficarum, but the scenes under those harsh conditions were ONE day shoots. No big suffering for the victims of the inquisition because of the wind and sun, well, maybe a bit.

Image
wanttoknowmore: With regard to lack of response to your script excerpt – I do not believe it is from a lack of interest, more from there wasn’t a lot there in terms of the overall. I am sure if excerpts from some more “meaty” elements are published, the response would be better.
I don’t have the meaty details at this point. I guess I will be getting more of what will happen in the film as the plans for the production progresses; however, I don’t think it’s wise to do a lot of spoiling.

In the case of Seditiosa most of the story was a given, by the concept itself, a film about a Female Christ. Every one in the known universe knows all the graphic details of that story, regardless of their religious persuasion.

The only ‘surprise‘ in the case of Seditiosa was how the well known saga of Christ in its female version would be told in the film, what elements would be used and so on. Would there be a nativity scene? What about the sermon of the mount, all of it, with thousands of people sharing the fish and the bread.

Because the Christ story is so well known and everyone has their own version up in their heads of how that story should be told, contributed to why some expectations were not met, and I’m not referring only to the little bit of dialogue up on the cross.

Image

It seems from your last post there was at least one other request for dialogue from the cross. Might want to keep that in mind in this next 4 films.

What I said before, if I remember well, is that there was the intention of more dialogue from the cross, like the parts when Simonne talks to Sol. More of something like that, but the conditions were not favorable. In the next four films there will be some exchanges from the cross, but not like in Seditiosa.

In the case of Crucified Four there’s only ONE person being crucified, and the only people she can exchange words or curses is with the people crucifying her. In the case of Taia the Runaway Slave, she will have some dialogue with Ide, because there’s something that connects them which I cannot reveal.

In the case of Ide, there will be some nasty exchanges with Paulina, who will be actively torturing her in revenge for what the priestess did to her.

Talissa the warrior will exchange curses with the soldiers torturing her and, of course, with Decius.
Technical recommendation – If you can’t tie the legs of the crux victims for safety reasons, need to help someone hold them during the feet nailing. Nobody is going just stand there during that.
In Crucified Four each of the crucifixions will be totally different. Where and how the feet are positioned will be part of the difference. In one case the feet will be nailed behind the post. I’m not telling which of the Crucified Four will suffer that.

Image

In another case the feet will be nailed to the sides, with the legs open wide, in another they will be nailed to a crossbar, legs extended as wide as possible… and I can’t say anymore.

Image
I was going to suggest this as a money safer as a way to combine the first and last film, but since you are going forward with all four, my suggestion for the Simonne film – Have her slave crucified with her. Paulina attends the crux site, and speaks to Simonne to watch as her slave is crucified, when tell her it is time to join her. A lot of the Seditiosa dialogue can be used here with minor modifications – Simmonne telling Paulina her crimes will be revealed and justice done just before she is raised up. The slave states she was tortured into implicating Simmonne and ask for forgiveness. The “not to blame” sequence would fit in well here.
Sabina’s story is, of course, connected to the fate of her slave/servant, who she treats kindly. We don’t have the actress that will play that role yet, so we don’t know what the actress will be willing to do and how capable she will be under the harsh conditions she’ll be forced to endure.

There will be some dialogue between them when Sabina is crucified. What happens to the slave and how is something I cannot reveal at this point. I think Jac prefers to leave that for the film itself and to be revealed when people are watching.

There will definitely be dialogues between Sabina and Paulina, that’s a must but that’s something that I will not be discussing either because it will be kind of a spoiler as well. Maybe in private, maybe.

Image
Instead of dying, Simmonne can be rescued. Investigation by other authorities reveals Paulina’s plot, and soldiers and centurion arrive to arrest Paulina (a prequel to any follow-up film of her crucifixion) , and take Simmonne down from the cross (I believe a couple folks wanted to see that). The slave, vis Roman law of a death in the household, is left to die. Simmonne protests, but the slave says she deserves this for putting her lady though this and bids farewell.
Paulina’s plot is obvious to everyone around her, that will be clear. It is a grab for power, so her husband can become the governor, which he does, and since she controls him totally, the power is now hers.

Since there’s no character, that I know of, willing to challenge her and make her life miserable, she wins… so far. But things can happen, of course.

As far as Sabina surviving her crucifixion, that’s alway possible, I guess. That’s another issue that will not be discuss here.

As far as people wanting to see the bodies lowered down from the cross, it’s something that would happen AFTER they are dead. I think what those people want is to see the dead body on the ground. Something like Christ after he’s taken down after he dies. That is possible in the case of Taia and/or Ide because the story has room for that.

Image

There will be a lot more to discuss next week, this is it for now. I encourage everyone to contribute NOW.

Conversatorium VI

Image

I did not start this post as a Conversatorium, but a couple of messages came my way and I had to add to the one comment I was going to respond. So, here it comes.
With regard to how Simonne would be “rescued”, have another slave in the background when Paulina discusses her plan to poison Simonne’s husband. That slave can be seen again speaking to a Roman official. With Simonne up on the cross and Paulina close by, a Roman “officer” walks up and informs Paulina she is under arrest and orders that Simonne be taken down.
That’s a suggestion that would need a very detailed story development, beginning with the actual plot at the beginning, like the intro to a Columbo episode where we see the crime first.

But for argument sake, let’s say that story line is considered. It would have to lead to that 5th movie where Paulina meets her cruel end up on the cross, or a twist in the fourth one where Sabina is rescued and Paulina is put in her place.

The first thing would be to consider the actual possibilities. Is Geraldine, who will most likely play Paulina, willing to go through that? It hasn’t been discussed with her at all, not before, not now, not even suggested as a possibility. When she worked on 69, she went through some intense s&m scenes, but from that to put her up on a cross, there’s a long, long distance.

All the protagonists in Crucified Four have suffered a number of crucifixions and in the most uncomfortable ways possible. Not Geraldine. We don’t know if she would go through that. And if she does, what does it mean, a bunch of changes in the script, a new production plan, an increase in the budget? Yes to all of that.

Image

At this point in the process we have to make sure that we can make the four films in the time frame that seems to be the best and in the way the four scripts are structured, it allows for the four stories to be shot as one. Adding to that would make things more complicated, a whole new story line would have to be added and make it work within the four… or five stories.

Personally, watching a dead body being taken down would be a bit morbid.

Some people like that scenario, of a dead victim taken down from her cross and laid down on the ground.

For the Mini series The Man On The Moon Jac planned that precise scenario, where Carmen’s character who was killed in a ritual ends up thrown in a ditch somewhere. Before shooting the mini series Jac and Carmen worked out a video where she is crucified and after she dies she lays on the ground, dead.

Carmen’s performance as a corpse rolling down a hill and laying still after that was excellent.

Image

Conversation topic – are you folks going to keep the crux four’s hair trimmed so that it doesn’t flop across their chests? I know Jac likes long haired beauties, but please don’t block the view again.

Well, there are some specific details about the look of the characters in the four films. The Warrior has a wild kind of hair, a little bit beyond the shoulders, but not a lot. However, Dani’s hair is growing as we speak, she might trim it down when shooting time comes. Maybe.

In the case of The Priestess, Mila’s hair will be shoulder length, in the traditional Cleopatra look, with bangs on her forehead and all of that. As a matter of fact that’s what inspired Jac to consider a film about an Egyptian Priestess, it was Mila’s look in a still from Pygmalion, she looked amazing, sensual and very much like an Egyptian beauty.

Image

In the case of The Slave, Ligia’s hair is longer now. She might trim it down. She looked very good with shorter hair in Seditiosa, she might cut her hair shorter for Crucified Four.

In the case of The Empress, Simonne’s hair is dyed mostly white, it looks blond, but it is not. I don’t know the reason she did that, but that’s not an issue, just a fact. She mentioned to Jac that she would be cutting her hair a lot in the near future. Jac has some ideas of how she should look like in Crucified Four. Maybe a nice wig will be involved. Women of Roman nobility had a certain look, with their hair braided in some traditional ways.

Hello Margot (…). Yesterday, I successfully supported $250 to you through PayPal via email. Can I access the existing movies before the release of the new ones? (I already have many of your movies in my movie library), I am very interested in Camille Preparations. In fact, many of your works are great. For the past twenty years, I have been collecting various types of torture films of the same kind, and your level has always ranked first in my opinion. I sincerely hope that you can have better development. I am not actually a fan of crucifixion scenes, but I am very fond of medieval torture. From the information on the Cruz forum, how many of your movies can I get? Can I have any benefits? I hope to receive your reply, thank you.

Hello (…), I’m not sure I understand you correctly. Let me first clear something. Our offer for the 250 contribution to Crucified Four is for the four films, when they come out, plus the four CruxBound movies … or any new four films. Do you want Camille Prepares as one of the four films?
I can send you a code for that. If you want three other films I can arrange that too. Let me know.

Image

Hello Margot, I’m sorry my English is not very good and sometimes the translator may not translate accurately. According to the rules, can I get four other movies (including unreleased new movies and currently available movies) in addition to the Crucible Four? If so, I would like to get Camille Prepares and CruXtreme III – The callback, and I will choose the other two from future released new movies. Is that okay? thank you. I have to say that the CruXtreme series is great, I have purchased both I and II.

That sounds good. I’ll send you codes for those two films. Thank you for your comments about our films.
I will use your comments in a post to encourage others to do the same.

You can still take advantage of our offer for the first 10 supporters who contribute 100 to Crucified Four in 10 days; however, there are only 3 days left!! Do it now!

Conversatorium VII

Image
Clarification based on the latest “Conversation” post – My last suggestion with Paulina being arrested and Simmonne rescued from the cross did not require Paulina to be crucified. She can just be led away, and MAYBE in future episodes can be crucified as a follow-up. Main reason for suggestion was to provide scenario to have Simmonne be taken down from cross (a scene some have expressed interest in) AND provide the basis for a sequel for Paulina’s visit to the cross.
All the elements introduced in a film requiere a resolution which provides closure to the narrative. Taking Sabina off the cross would be the culmination of that characters’ arc, and the resolution of that particular conflict but at the cost of changing Paulina’s arc, which, in theory, would have to be worked out until the completion of her arc in a new movie… or, as I mentioned before, by Paulina replacing Sabina on the cross.

The story can’t have such an open conclusion unless it was developed that way with the purpose of taking the drama to a satisfying conclusion. In the case of Sabina, her rescue would be a happy ending, for her arc, but it needs a matching denouement and the arrest and taking away of Paulina is not enough. Sabina was put through hell… and to satisfy the audience, if that’s the intention, the culprit must pay in kind, thus Paulina would have to replace Sabina on the cross.

Image
I disagree that adding a slave overhearing Paulina’s plans to poison Simmonne’s husband then a quick scene of him/her telling a Roman official would be that complex. Those are quick, low stage scenes.
All the elements of drama in the four films are diverse and interconnected, each contributing to the overall impact of each story. Paulina is the one character that appears in all four films without being the protagonist, but rather an antagonist. In each film she puts her ‘suggestions‘ as to what should happen to each of the condemned. She’s particularly evil with Ide and she culminates her antagonist and evil arch by having the innocent wife of the Governor crucified, after having the Governor himself die a terrible death.

Thus the new character, the one that will eventually turn on Paulina, has to be developed. There has to a logic to her actions, as there is a logic to everyone else’s actions. Her motivation has to be clear and that has to be developed though out the four stories. It cannot be ‘just because‘

Image
Ligia, Mila and a third lady who wants to answer to a casting call for the role of Paulina’s servant/slave
I agree that from what I have read so far the plots for these movies are not just base torture movies. If you don’t cut dialogue after the victims are sentenced/condemned , these could be theatre grade stuff. We will see.
These four films are more in the line with films like Justine, where there’s a strong story full of torture, where characters are developed in full and the reason’s why they do what they do and why they go through what they go through is well stablished.

There will be plenty of dialogues in all films, all the motivations, the plots, the nuances will be there for everyone to see. If the production values allow it and if the end result is good for a larger distribution, we might have either a theatrical release, which will not affect those who contribute, they will get to see the films before anyone else, and possibly a wider streaming release in bigger platforms. That’s under discussion.

Also, I noted the statement about getting the Crux Four movies “whenever” they are released. That is a BIG red flag for me. You folks stated earlier the plan was to release them next March-April. The open ended statement in your last post sounds like a hedge. Remember my statements on the trust issue – something like that statement, at least for me, goes to the that issue.
The statement says ‘when they come out’, not ‘whenever‘. Yes, whenever sounds open ended, but ‘when they come out it is not open ended. It implies the “when“, as a certain date or time which has been discussed.

We did not specify a date of release on our original campaign because we haven’t yet set the date of production. We do plan to make the movies sometime around August/September. That would give us April/March as the likely time of release. We will be more specific about schedules sometime at the end of next week.

As I add my comments to this series of posts I put under the banner of Coversatorium, I notice that they get more and more detailed. I think that’s ok for the time being, when I’m trying to get some support.

When the ten days 10 supporters offer ends, that’s in 2 days, the detailed description of our intentions and possibilities will also end. I will reserve all special comments and posts for our Supporters.

Right now Jac is going through a terrible time because one his cats passed away today at noon. She was a young kittie, 1 year and 4 months, and now she’s gone. He’ll be back to normal next week. He has too many things to deal with and he doesn’t deal very well when he looses a dear love.

The Via Crucis for Crucified Four

Image

Here we are, at the end of the campaign to convince 10 people to contribute to the Crucified Four project. We had one big contributor with a 250 contribution and we’re very grateful. The total raised so far, after all these months, is 830 dollars, some of which were put to very good use.

The campaign will continue, of course, maybe a couple of people will want to support this project, but we no longer count on the campaign to raise part of the funds we need to produce those four films. We’re looking into alternative means to have the necessary funds we need.

On this post I will respond to ONE comment and that’s that. No more comments about Crucified Four until we begin production or something happens worthy of commenting, like a new cast member, or something extraordinary like someone decided to give us one million dollars. No longer will I be pestering everyone with this.

Image

https://www.paypal.com/donate?campaign_id=4J7DNEXYHW8J8
JDArts: Well, I would like Simonne’s character to die on the cross. It wouldn’t make much sense if she is rescued and manages to survive.
That is the original intention. The four protagonists in Crucified Four have a very unhappy and cruel end. Some suffering more than others, or maybe the same, but in different ways. In any case, that’s what the script calls for and that’s the end of the story.

The script will no longer be a subject of discussion. Those who already contributed are aware of what the movies will be about and any discussion about the progress of the film will be done directly with them.

Image

We will have some news for our supporters as we walk our via crucis to make the series. At this moment Jac is dealing with his very personal issues and everyone is waiting to hear from him. There will be one or two meetings early next week with the principal female cast, that’s Dani, Mila, Ligia, Simonne and Geraldine. They will be updated with the situation so they will know what to expect in the next few months. None of the male characters have been cast yet.

The production team will decide after that meeting if the cast will be blocking some dates for the production of Crucified Four along with other issues related to the production, conditions, payments and so on. Jac will be totally honest, as always.

After the meeting and when all the decisions are taken, our team will move on to the next priorities for the new cycle. We will know what to expect and we will do what we need to do.

Image

The work with Dani, Mila and Ligia on the CruXbound films will continue and we will be commenting once in a while on those films as they go through production, post production and when the films are getting ready for release… or when I get some interesting news from Jac, although he is not promising anything, so that’s a big if; he prefers to continue the work quietly from now on.

I will also be announcing the progress of the films that are in post production on a regular basis but not with a lot of detail until each film is ready for the big time.

Image

The efforts I made to fundraise for Crucified Four did not have the effect I intended so I feel like it was basically a waste of my time which I could use for other goals, like promoting all those 50 movies we have in our store.

Maybe it wasn’t a total waste because in those posts I mentioned CruXtreme III a few times and the sales on that particular movie went up. It’s in second place this year after Seditiosa.

Justine went down to a close third place for this year, after occupying the first place for a while until Seditiosa was released.

It is obvious that the films we have require more of my time and deserve proper promotion.

Image

Our work will now be dedicated to alternative funding possibilities and to the BIG plans we have for other work, of which Crucified Four is part of but not the most urgent at this time. The rest of April and May will be completely taken by one BIG plan that I cannot reveal until it is all set. It will take most of next month.

We have a few alternatives for funding and I will be updating on that when things move in that direction.

I’m grateful to those of you who contributed to the project and you won’t be disappointed, we’ll make sure of that. If you contributed and want to be updated on how things are moving, send us an email to redfeline@gmail.com, we will send you reports on the progress with some pictures and links to videos as we have them.

If you want to be part of this, just go and donate to the campaign.

The Big Plan or for A Few Dollars More

Image

A little private exchange after my most recent post.
Margot: The August/September schedule for shooting the film and the March/April 2026 release are the plan. The ‘other project’ is not another film. There’s something we’re doing that needs a month or so to set up. It does not affect any other work, as a matter of fact it helps all the projects since it has to do with funds and if it works, lots of it, and it needs our full attention. It’s very technical.

You might want to say that in your Crux Forum string so others don’t come to the wrong conclusion as I did.[
What I wrote in the post I’m referring to here is: Our work will now be dedicated to alternative funding possibilities and to the BIG plans we have for other work, of which Crucified Four is part of but not the most urgent at this time. The rest of April and May will be completely taken by one BIG plan that I cannot reveal until it is all set. It will take most of next month.

The BIG plan is funds related. We constantly need to find sources for funds. Our stores work well enough, they keep us going and selling our films certainly helps us make more films which we then sell and that helps us make more and it can go on and on and on.
But there are some projects like Crucified Four and Maleficarum Excruciati that need a lot of more funds than what we normally have access to on a regular basis.

Image

https://www.paypal.com/donate?campaign_id=4J7DNEXYHW8J8

We have a very interesting story of where those funds sometimes originate.

Way back in 2010 we were preparing Amy’s second feature film, Barbazul, when she received an offer. Some good funds for a movie, any movie, as long as it had one particular scene. A beautiful woman being roasted over hot coals.

It seemed something we could do, but we had a lot of the work for Barbazul, pretty much way ahead, we already made commitments and deals that included Veronica’s plane ticket from France, the far away location was already reserved, the cast and crew were all in place, with Mila ready to perform in her very first role in a film where, for the first time in her life, would do a nude scene or two.

Image

https://movies.redfeline.com/barbazul-bluebeard/p/17837

Everything was set so, the question was, can we handle two films? There was no way to do the roasting scene in Barbazul.

Jac had an inquisition idea in the back of his head, something he had been looking into for a couple of years, he even had a location in mind, a basement club where a friend’s band performed way back in the 90’s. The club was in an old part of the city and had a colonial look that was perfect for a torture chamber.

That year, 2010, we released Amy’s first film, Sirwiñakuy, in theaters and it was a success, it run for SIX months! and it was bringing some money and fame. Lot’s of people wanted to work with us. So, the inquisition movie had potential.

The money offered became a message from the universe and Jac said… we’re going to make a film about the SANTO OFICIO! (Holy Office) That became the working title.

Image

In November of 2010 the production of Maleficarum began, it was briefly interrupted when the cast and crew went to Chivisivi, the far away location to shoot Barbazul, the plan was to be there 12 days, but it only took 10 to shoot all the scenes for Amy’s new film.

The cast and crew were back in the city to continue shooting Maleficarum, including the scene that began the whole thing, the roasting scene, where Amy was put to the test in what she thinks was the most painful, dangerous scene she ever made for a film.

Image

https://movies.redfeline.com/maleficaru ... ut/p/11916

By the time 2011 began there were two films produced, and after Maleficarum was done, there was some extra time left on the lease for the torture chamber, so Amy and Jac came up with a simple idea to shoot one more film using the same location, decorating it a bit different and with a simple yet great story.

Le Marquis de la Croix was born, a film where Jac tortures Mila to the extremes. The one film where Mila was going to be nude in a couple of scenes turned into Three Films with nude scenes, in two of them Mila is tortured, in the nude, most of the time.

Image

One offer of funds for one scene in one film helped us make two movies on top on the one we had already planned. Sometimes things happen that way.

Maleficarum wasn’t the only film that began with an offer of some cash for a scene, but that’s the subject for my next post.

Amy discusses her experiences shooting the roasting scene in Maleficarum.

Cruxlover24 Will you update videos of the rehearsals for those films? Like the fighting scenes the warrior will have?
A more detailed explanation to my original response to Cruxlover24 comment at Crux Forum.

It takes a lot of effort to have videos of rehearsals and the training for the fighting scenes. We didn’t have a crew when Dani was learning a lot of the fighting techniques she needs in two films. If and when she goes through other training sessions we could have a crew in the place if it is worth the effort and expense, but so far, it is not.

We could make the effort if we saw that there’s strong support for the films; but unfortunately, months of attempts on my part to get that backing did not bring the results I was aiming for. We got a couple of new contributions recently which brought our total funds raised until now to a bit over 900 US. Far below our goals.

I’ll be promoting our films, as usual, and when the new projects are getting ready, I’ll be updating their progress, but I don’t believe I’ll have videos of rehearsals or the fighting for general release. Sorry. A few pictures sure, like always.

Image
Cruxlover24: Maybe to show the rehearsals to people who contribute could be something good!
Maybe. We don’t have plans to shoot rehearsals at this point. We are working to make sure we have the resources to make the films. That’s the priority. 930 dollars helps, a little, to get some of the stuff we need. But the actual production takes thousands of dollars and we have to find those resources. The perks we offer in the campaign is what the contributors will get.

If we come up with other ideas, I’ll be discussing them.

Image

And now for something completely different.

Simonne is making her debut internationally as a film director!

Yes, you heard right. Our amazing actress recently made a jump behind the camera and directed a 10 minute documentary, produced in ten days, for an international contest. The film is currently screening at:

https://docs-enlinea.com/peliculas/pollerita

It is in Spanish and the site is from Mexico, where the international contest is hosted.

So, to me, that’s an international debut as a filmmaker.

Cool. Right?

The Big Plan – A Fistful of Dollars

Image

I was doing a bit of history about how some cash came our way and started something new. I began with Maleficarum, the now classic movie reviewed by Christian Lanciai in the book FILM REVIEWS as “the masterwork of a genius

The conditions of the work at that time, the wonderful locations, the great cast and so on gave us the opportunity to make Maleficarum and two other films we produced back to back at that time.

Image

https://movies.redfeline.com/bo/malefic ... ut/p/11916

Some time later, after we released Maleficarum and we were preparing the theatrical release of Barbazul, someone else came with an offer. A good amount of cash for a very elaborate whipping scene in a movie. The offer came with very specific details of what the scene should look like.

At that time we were in the process of doing the pre-production for a vampire movie, an idea Jac was carrying in his heart of hearts since the days of Carmen and Vero, 1996, to be exact. Incidentally, the main characters in that possible movie were going to be played by Carmen and Vero, back in the time. Things didn’t work out then and for many circumstances in 1997 the trio headed for New York to begin a whole new life cycle.

Image
Paloma (Carmen) gives her blood to Nahara (Vero), a crucified vampire. Picture taken during a rehearsal.

The cash offer was accepted and the scene was included in the vampire film exactly as it was requested and as part of a very elaborate and big sequence with a big number of actors, an amazing location, excellent props, costumes, the works, a big production values movie.

The offer was specific in its instructions. The woman had to be tied facing a whipping post, her chained wrists stretched up the pole until she was on her toes, she had to be stripped off her rags and whipped in front of a crowd.

That was perfect of one of the protagonists in the story, Moira, an Irish woman that collaborates with the South American rebels who are fighting the Spaniards. She is captured, gang raped, dragged to be whipped, chained to a post, whipped and left at the scaffold until the night.

Image

In a post written in 2012, when we were shooting the film, we told the story of how the filming of that scene developed:

We had to continue the flogging that Monday, and on that same day we had to finish her off. Her execution, I mean. We were shooting from 9 am to 8 pm non stop and Amy had to be naked all of that time… tough, really tough because for the most part the day was cold. Indeed it was the hardest day for Amy.

One amazing thing was that this is the very first time we involved a large number of people in a scene like this, a public flogging, where our lady was in front of so many people, most of whom had never, ever seen anything like it, and she was naked too.

The actors were truly impressed, but not only the actors. We were shooting at a museum and on Monday there were a lot of people in their offices surrounding the yard where we set up the scalfold.

Image
https://movies.redfeline.com/dead-but-dreaming/p/21112

They were stunned. Watching the nasty proceedings from behind their windows, or from the balconies, never in view of the cameras, of course . And the flogging itself was real enough. The sound of the whip on Amy’s flesh was loud enough to make everybody squirm.

Her acting was, as always, superb, and many a person thought that it was real, that she wasn’t acting at all, that she was suffering.

And this went on for hours, to have all the angles Jac wanted and to make it look as good as humanly possible.

When later we saw the rushes, there were tears in Amy’s eyes, all that suffering was paying off. The cinematography was amazing, the set was amazing, the acting was amazing… so the scene was working very, very well.

Image

https://movies.redfeline.com/bo/dead-bu ... ng/p/21112

You can read the entire post and others before and after here:

https://redfeline.com/chronicles/2012/0 ... ck-update/

That’s how intense the shooting of that requested scene was. To complete the sequence we had to go back to the set the next day and put Amy through a lot more suffering.

The story of Dead But Dreaming takes place in different ages, thousands of years apart, from ancient Inca times, Ancient Alexandria and finally in the days of the war for independence in colonial La Paz.

Each period of time with costumes and props of the times and with characters that are simply awesome.

Vero flew from France to play the ancient vampire Nahara, Mila played Aphrodisia, the vampire created by Asar (Jac) after she’s crucified and Amy took the role of Moira, the Irish woman helping the rebels.

The offer of cash was a small part of the budget, but big enough to help us create an amazing colonial world.

The film was very well received, the reviews were great, it went to festivals and was featured in international magazines. It had a theatrical release in many cities and thrilled audiences all over.
C Dean Andersson: Jac Avila’s Dead but Dreaming does for Vampire Films what Coppola’s Apocalypse Now did for War Movies…transforms entertaining and traditionally horrific stories into beautiful works of epic art.

After Dead But Dreaming was completed Amy and Jac thought that it would be a good idea to raise some cash for another film, this time Amy’s third movie, Olalla, an ambitious project based in the story of the same title by Robert Louis Stevenson, his first story, he later wrote Jekyll and Hyde and other famous novelas. That tale of intense filmmaking will be part of our next post.

Image

A question came my way.
I am planning to contribute more than 100 and I would like to know if the films will be made for sure. I’m not too worry about the dates. I understand that.
We’re working on the funding. A little part of that effort is what I’m posting now, with links to the movies we have with the intention of selling them, of course, and hopefully in great quantities, if possible, that means more than one movie per person.

There are other means of funding we’re working on so to make sure we have enough to make those four films as big as Jac wants them to be.

We are expecting some news regarding substantial funding by the 2nd of May, opening the possibility of planning the shooting of the first sequence in the film as early as June. That sequence is the one where all the characters are introduced and the Runaway Slave is captured.

Apparently some people misread a previous post, where I mention the BIG Project, or plan. I clarified that it was NOT A FILM, but a PLAN to access FUNDS!

One of these people went as far as to contact one of the actresses to find out what the BIG PROJECT was… And of course, the actress was kind of surprised to learn that there was some kind of big project she apparently wasn’t part of.

She contacted Jac to ask him about the big project, Jac didn’t know what she was talking about… and now I have a mess in my hands.

So, just to clarify, again, … the BIG PLAN I mentioned is related to the FUNDS we need, not a new film.

The Big Plan – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Image

There are three protagonists in every campaign, The GOOD, that’s the enthusiasm it generates that equals to cash that equals to the advancement of the project. The Bad, that’s the silent response for a long time, that crashes the enthusiasm, and The Ugly, kind of the nowhere land, not here, not there.

Our very first campaign was for Olalla, Amy’s fourth feature film, based in the story by Robert Louis Stevenson, Olalla, tells the story of a gothic and decadent family of genetic vampires who need human blood to survive, and where incest is the only way to maintain the family line.

A very challenging film.

Image

We started on the heels of Dead But Dreaming, having accomplished a lot in terms of locations, costumes and big cast, different periods of time… all of that.

The next adventure had to be as amazing. The story takes place in two periods in time, separated by a couple of hundred years, there was the need for a big cast in a few scenes, period costumes, lots of costumes… and a chapel, and a cross, a very particular cross, not to mention a great location that has the feeling of 1800s Spain, which we found in the old city of Potosi. And this time it involved TRAVELING!

Taking the cast, crew, equipment, large props to a different city was a huge task.

During that time, Amy went to Las Vegas, to a film festival, to present Barbazul.

Image

We posted back in October 2013 the following.

Amy launched her IndieGoGo campaign to raise some of the funds she needs for a fantastic BATS scene. Here’s the link. Her goal is to raise 10,000 USD to shoot a large scale scene of Olalla whipped, chained to a cross and burn in front of angry villagers.

There are some great perks for those who would like to contribute to the production of that scene. The plan is to shoot it in November. She explains it better in the pitch video below.

https://vimeo.com/75227231

Another point in the education of Amy in Las Vegas. Insist!

So… I do. Our IndieGoGo campaign is in full force. Visit us, share our link, do what you must to help her make the scene the best GIMP scene in the history of GIMP. (Only to be beaten by our next movie, we’d love to make our GIMP scenes better all the time.) We’re over 60% of our goal, even tough it doesn’t appear as such in the site. We received a direct deposit in our bank account of 3,000 towards the campaign. That makes the total as of today of 6,040. We hope to reach 10 grand. Are you game?

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/olalla/x/4977291#/

Amy arrived, took a break and on we went into the production of Olalla again. 80% of the contemporary scenes are already in the can. 5 more days of shooting and we have this part done. We’ll take a week to shoot the fiery sequence. I’ll have a production date soon.

Image

Amy’s impression from her experience in Las Vegas is interesting. All the filmmakers, some of the distributors, people in the business, mostly from LA, the mecca of the film industry, repeatedly said to her: “you’re living the dream!”

What do they mean by that? Simply put we’re doing what we love and only what we love. We can pay salaries to our people, make a living with our films, make the films with grand production values, that’s something everyone at PollyGrind appreciated a lot, our production values.

Amy saw lots of the films, she saw what others are doing and how they are doing it. Her conclusion is that what we’re doing is totally unique, original and great. She also learned that we’re not working with low budgets but rather micro-budgets. Low budgets are those films made with over 100,000 USD. We’re far below that so, we make micro budget productions with class, style and amazing production values. That’s what Dead But Dreaming represents. Amy took copies of the vampire film and showed it to some select people and they were in awe. The word used frequently was Genius.

Image

As I was saying, Olalla was our first film made with money raised in a campaign, not just one offer of cash. The film itself came out great, it had a great and crowded premiere in January 2015, the year we produced TWO films, Justine and Pygmalion.

After the premiere it was released theatrically, it did well, and then it went to festivals. One of those festivals brought about big changes to all of us, specially to Amy who was asked to design the film department at a US university, an offer she couldn’t refuse. She now heads the department and that’s another story.

After Olalla was ready to go out in the world, we started a campaign to raised money again, this time for Justine, but that’s a subject for my next post.

Image
Olalla featured in FANGORIA, the very famous horror film magazine

There were a few questions at the Crux Forum, which I’ll expand on a little here.
Cruxlover24 Will you guys be shooting Maleficarum in a short future?
I don’t know what you mean by short future. In a few months? A year? April ended and we’re entering a new month, getting closer to half of 2025… and that, sometimes, seems short, very short, to me.

Maleficarum Excruciati is in the plans of future productions; however, it’s a very expensive proposition. We have FOUR films to worry about, the CRUCIFIED FOUR series, which we are planning to shoot in August/September of this year.

After those four films are done, we’ll begin seriously thinking about Maleficarum Excruciati if we have everything we need, like a cast, props, locations, crew… and if the director is willing to go through that again so soon and if our big plan works and we have enough resources to do it.

It could happen that one of the behind the scenes work we’re doing gets results and we embark for the next two years in the TV series and the documentaries that go with it.

One way of getting the resources for the films we want to make is by selling our work in great quantities. Our APRIL SALE is over, there will be other opportunities for discounts in the future, but you can get any or all of our films at our store.

https://movies.redfeline.com/
Cruxlover24 Thanks for your fast answer. I have a question won’t be easier to raise funds for Maleficarum? Considering that it is one of the most popular films you guys have.
It’s never easy to raise funds, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, like now. The campaign for Crucified Four is closed for now. We might resume it, we might not. If we do, it will be in different terms, maybe just a pre sale of all films at once. In the other hand we might not resume the campaign at all. We’re working on the BIG PLAN (Not a big production) with the intention of have access to the funds we need for Crucified Four and another production. Right now Jac is concentrating in that work at hand.

Image
Cruxlover24 Have you finished your latest film with Mila and Dani? When is it gonna be available?
There are a few films with Mila and Dani, at least four of them are in post production and two of them in production, the one that is going through the excruciating pains of cutting and cutting and more cutting right now is Agent Honey Trap. I don’t know when it will be available, but I’ll be promoting it as soon as I get the word.

Moving On – The Realignment

Image

We accepted the fact that there was little or no interest in supporting The Crucified Four movies and the time to move on became clear. We are doing that, we’re now considering all the alternatives we have, discovering a few new ones, and making decisions for the near and not so near future.

It’s kind of exciting in some strange way, because we kind of opened up the door to new things while not abandoning the old, or almost old.

Back in February 28, 2013 we posted what was part of a series of posts about Barbazul, Amy’s second feature that was released months before and it was getting a lot of attention.

https://redfeline.com/chronicles/2013/0 ... -barbazul/

Part of the post says: We took a big step in 2011 by going into bigger productions, which means bigger expenses and longer production times. These productions are very different from what we started with in the days of Red Feline.

This new path has, in fact, stopped our past productions, totally. Even if Le Marquis is somewhat similar to our previous work, two people, one set, all torture and nothing but, … still, it is different. So, once in a while a discussion comes up, should we go back to making some smaller productions or not?

The argument in favor is that it is not too hard to make them, specially now that we have so much equipment and resources, the argument against is that the bigger productions are, in fact, doing much better and taking most of our time, if not all, and they have the potential to go a lot farther, which in fact is happening.

But Jac looks out of the window, feeling nostalgic for those old days when making the Red Feline movies was so much fun and when they were so intimate. A dark set, nobody watching, just the two people living a fantasy with a couple of cameras running, taking it all in.

Image

We are going through a similar thought process these days when we’re embracing the new cycle. Should we continue doing the small productions like Agent Honey Trap or CruXbound movies?

We returned to them when producing big movies became difficult to make because of the Covid Epidemic.

Before the world was hit with the epidemic we had at least two Big Production Values made, The Passion of Isabel, produced in 2017 and Monxa Mala, produced in 2018. Both films were the first big productions after Amy left for the US at the end of 2015.

Image

In 2016 Jac got busy with a big production for NatGeo which involved lengthy periods of time traveling in the rainforest of Bolivia, for months at a time. In addition to that he was working on the post production of Justine and Pygmalion.

I mentioned in my previous post that I was going to go into the fundraising campaign and efforts for Justine, but it will be on a post later. This is mostly about our ‘moving forward’ plans.

Image

After all that traveling through the jungles of Bolivia in 2016, Jac was back in La Paz to finish the post production of Justine and began preparing for The Passion of Isabel. He still had the big location where Justine was produced and all the props were there. He didn’t need a lot. He had the lights, the special effects, the props, the costumes, at least three cameras to work with, one of those cameras was used in the NatGeo project.

So, he talked to Bea who was game to suffer for her art and the two of them, and only the two of them, went in the set for a few weeks to make that extremely sexy movie.

Image

The question remains… should we continue producing the less complicated movies like Agent Honey Trap?

We have to consider that question because we need to invest our time in more rewarding propositions as we move forward. The point is to engage in one or two big feature movies in a year, like we did before, between 2010 and 2015. Back then we had some of the Red Feline movies, like Agent X, making some cash, helping with the new ones. We have seven films in post and a couple preparing for release, which would help in the near and far future.

Image

While we consider this, time passes, and this past Saturday, May 3, was Amy’s birthday. It was a bit coincidental that the last few days I was engaged in recovering old posts and putting them in our site. The theme of most of those posts were the new films around 2013, one of those was Amy’s Barbazul. One interesting comment got my attention, a discussion with Ralphus, from the GIMP site and I want to share it here.
Ralphus Amy being bound nude in Barbazul and then strangled nude in the movie is erotic but in the Boston Strangler’s real life he raped them then strangled them – NOT erotic. Hmmm…that’s a challenging statement. I think rape and strangulation are indeed erotic. Certainly there have been countless rape scenes in all kinds of movies. Suppose the Amy movie on Bluebeard was based on a true story? Bluebeard was fictional, but what if the film were based on the Boston Strangler? Would that make it less erotic, or not erotic at all? Certainly millions of women have been raped over the years in real life. Does that automatically disqualify every rape scene made on film afterward? Where do you draw the line?
Fiction and fantasy are based in reality or perceived/imagined reality. Even Barbazul the original story, is based on a real serial killer of old, as Amy pointed out before. In Dead But Dreaming, Amy’s character is based in two women who suffered the same ordeal, public whipping and execution, in the 1800’s. In Maleficarum Amy’s and Mila’s characters are based in real people who suffered the rigors of the inquisition, in fact, Amy’s character was the last person to be sentenced to die at the stake in Lima. And, like in the movie, there are rumors that she didn’t die. Jac’s performance in Barbazul was inspired by Tony Curtis’ Boston Strangler.

Video of Amy directing Barbazul
https://vimeo.com/1081243510

You can read the entire post here:

https://redfeline.com/chronicles/2013/0 ... -barbazul/

Back to the present.

Jac is having individual meetings with the five female protagonists of the next big productions and with the one crew member that is, right now, the only one on call, that’s Erix. He does a lot. One subject of discussions with him is the film Aventura he is going to be directing soon with Dani as the protagonist but he’s also involved in the work of pre production for Crucified Four. He recently had a big task for that film which he accomplished with passing colors.

In those meetings with the protagonists and Erix, Jac is exchanging ideas, disclosing to everyone about the possibilities for his future plans as well as where the current projects stand on the basis of what is happening and what he has at hand, which is a very fluid and organic process and everything can change completely from one day to the other.

In one of those meeting, the most recent one with Geraldine, they discussed the up and coming projects and the roles she will play in them. There are at least two roles for her, Paulina in Crucified Four and that of the very enigmatic wife of a presidential candidate in the series.

Geraldine tried on what Paulina will be wearing in Crucified Four, the dress fit her exceedingly well and she had the look Jac needs in the film.

Image

This is what the near future holds, we are working on the post production of seven films with Agent Honey Trap heading the post production schedule.

We are also working on the release of 69 Anneé Érotique and the wider distribution of Pygmalion

We’re producing three of the CruXbound films, one is already in the can.

We’re also working on the Pre-Production of Crucified Four, Aventura and Maleficarum Excruciati

There’s some preparation work been done to make a sequel to The Man From The Moon – the 30 Years old miniseries, and to launch the huge production of the Television series Pachamama, as well as two documentaries, which we could start as soon as one of them gets approved by NatGeo and the financing comes in.

Image

And Finally, we now have a little sale. 15% off if you buy two or more of our titles. We had some requests from some people that missed out in our April Sale, so we decided to at least have some kind of sale.

It’s a good time to get two of our titles, oldies, new ones, both. They are all very good.

CruXing Outdoors

Image

I was planning to engage in a follow up post on our fundraising efforts for past productions, as well as whatever came around to inspire me at that time; however, a comment came my way in the Crux Forum and I felt inclined to respond at length, due to its interesting subject and the details involved in that remark. That happened before we had some hosting issues, which took a few days to solve, we’re back to normal, so here I go.
Sharky4all Dear Margot, From my pov the way to go would be low budget films filmed in the outdoors. I personally prefer the erotic side of the stories ( the prelude of seeing the woman embarrassed by getting naked and forced to walk outdoors in plain site, seeing the woman geting naked while on the cross, the dance on the cross, the carrying of the patibullum etc) But I dont enjoy the bloody scenes like the excessive flogging and the nailing – as in my opinion they break the emersion (they are fake as hell).
I look forward in seeing the movies you produce for our entertainment
We did a few No Budget films in the outdoors, most with Amy, some with Camille and one with Mila. Although they are relatively less complicated to make than big productions, it still takes some hard work and sometimes it is complicated to get to the chosen area. Finding the good location, having the time to go and spend the time out there, from a few hours, or a day, to maybe three days, some cash for transportation, some more cash for meals, water, coffee, etc. at least three cameras and so on.

One of those very nice outdoors films was Romana Crucifixa Est. It took from early morning to late afternoon, there were three cameras, all of them SD, some blood EFX, and it involved flogging, torture and nailing Amy to the Patibulum before having her walk all the way and to finally put her up on the cross.

Image

In theory we could make many of those films but it’s not easy, that’s why we have so very few. That particular location was ideal for outdoors quickies. It was easy to get there by taxi, work all day, with one break for lunch, maybe, walk back to the road and take the taxi back home.

Amy and Jac found that perfect place one day when they went exploring some area with the intention of making such a film. What they found had everything they needed including a nice dried up tree that could be used as a cross.

The area was not too far, within city limits, a few minutes walk from the main road where there was public transportation but far enough from civilization to be isolated and without any problems or interruptions, like a mad crowd trying to stop the proceedings.

Image

Once they checked out the area they spent the afternoon taking pictures and deciding the different spots where they could shoot the scenes for the film. The images looked fantastic, the place was amazing, a great background for Amy’s extreme suffering.

They decided on a date, probably the next day, and went there to shoot the movie early in the morning, with the cameras, small ones, easy to handle, tripods, the whip, the hammer, the nails and the log upon which to nail Amy.

Amy suffered all day, not only the tortures, but also the hot sun, which did not warm her up, it was winter, it just burned her skin. At the end of the afternoon they were done, a new movie was produced and it was simple and great.

https://vimeo.com/637846932

A year later, when we were preparing to shoot Maleficarum, Amy had to go away to the US for a short time, Jac had some time in his hands so he decided to go back to that location to shoot a test movie with Mila, who was going to be one of the protagonists in the famous Inquisition movie.

In this quick film Mila was going to be whipped and crucified completely naked. It was important for her to become comfortable with the harsh conditions of the Maleficarum production, the demands on her body and soul, the tough scheduled and the hours of suffering.

One early morning they took a taxi to the location and made one simple movie, The Via Crucis of Mila, without any blood effects or nails. Just a good whipping and crucifixion.

Image

Not much later the location was used again, this time for the burning at the stake scene in Maleficarum. It was not a problem to get there, two large minivans were hired to carry the cast, crew and equipment. They all went there early morning, prepared the set, there was some digging involved to set the stake where Amy was going to be burn and for the cross where Mila was going to suffer her agonies while watching as her lover was put through the fire.

It took all day to shot the burning at the stake sequence and they left the area late afternoon. The production day was good. The shooting was excellent, the acting magnificent, the images amazing… the location served its purpose.

Image

Years later Dani and Jac went over the location to check it out, do some testing, with the intention of making a quick crucifixion movie outdoors, maybe two or even three. Unfortunately when they got there they saw a bunch of construction vehicles, destroying the place in order to build an entire neighborhood… even tough it is a terrible terrain, prone to sink down, really, sink.

They thought of alternatives to make those “simple” outdoors movies, but they could only think of far away places, like the ones Jac and Camille used way back, the same far away location Amy and Jac used for The Perils Of Jane In The Green Inferno.

Image
I read your latest post.

So, are you going to film the Crux 4 movies in August-September and release next march? It seems you are throwing a whole bunch of projects in the way of doing that.

Frankly, I saw a post like this last year. NONE of the projects were completed. Most of the “films” you listed should have been done already.
The plan is to shoot Crucified Four in August/September.

Jac deals with the films on the digital shelves that are in post production, one at a time, or two, but they are not priorities in normal days. There are a number of things he has to do that take time, proposals, scripts, business work, etc. We’re not a TV studio with a dozen editors, unfortunately, but if he has his way, we might become something like that. An editor charges around 1,000 a week, maybe 1,000 a month if the hours are flexible. That would be around 3 to 5 G per film. A film that didn’t cost much to produce, if at all. That’s the reality.

Jac is editing Agent Honey Trap, right now, not every day, not all day. But most of the other films have already gone through editing, some more than others. But there are priorities and right now one priority is to find the resources for the Crucified Four and that takes some serious time.

He’s also having meetings with the principal cast to discuss things and prepare them for their roles.

The film Erix is going to be directing, Aventura, is his project, some in our team will work with him. Jac is not directing it, he’s like an executive producer. He gives advise, mostly, points in the right direction, stuff like that. He makes it happen without doing much work.

Films like Seditiosa, Justine, Maleficarum were priorities, they were made in a regular and consistent film schedule. We worked on them straight through until they were done, within a year from production to final release.

Films like 69 Anneé Érotique, Pygmalion, however, are more flexible and need some things that are not easy to arrange quickly, like music rights, film festivals participation or wide distribution deals, stuff like that.

And then, the quickies, like Agent Honey Trap, are at Jac’s discretion and available time. There was a time, when there weren’t too many things happening, like during Covid, that he managed to produced and release many of the CruXtreme and secret agent movies. He shot more than what he released in a short time.

Between 2019 and 2022 he produced ten films, 6 were released before 2023 when we got involved in Seditiosa and 69, that’s a lot of work, really.

When 2023 ended we had 12 films in the can, 7 of them released. Thats like 2 films per year and that’s basically normal for us, to release two films per year, not every year, but almost. And on top of that we have other productions going on, like documentaries, big and small, music videos. Lots of work.
