You made the right choice in facial expression imo. She would have been past the point of begging when her back started to blister. It's obvious that you put a lot of thought into your creations and it makes a difference in the overall effect of the scene. Body position/action and facial expressions are important, and so are the details that you include, like the way the SS officer is holding his cigarette German military style. It all works to make the image so good. I always look forward to seeing your work.bleumune wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 2:20 pmThanks, wulf. I struggled with the expression a bit, wondering if I ought to attempt to show the beseeching expression she had in the original image. Then I decided that she already had to be suffering the pain of being tied so close to a roaring fire and went with a horrified scream expression. Even then, I wondered if I had selected a character that was too "pretty" but ultimately left it alone. But I did add the sweat of pain, which I almost always use.
I was especially proud of the onlooking German officer. I thought I captured his haughty aspect pretty well.
Thanks for your interest. You're always so dependable in that regard. I hate to admit to vanity, but it's sometimes depressing to see so little interest in my work. Oh, well.

Re: Men's Magazines alterations
Here's another of my favorites from those long ago days - Man's Story 1962-09. It's hard to believe that these magazines were sold in grocery stores and drugstores, but I collected many of them from those sources. In 1962, there was one (1) bookstore in the whole town, and it was downtown - it took a bus ride to get there, and they didn't carry the Men's Magazines anyway. They were for the upper class, I guess, but I sure couldn't afford a $19.95 hardback when I mowed lawns for a buck-fifty a lawn!
I never collected this mag, though, and I always wondered what the interior story had to say. Typically, Man's Story was one of the Emtee line of magazines, and there were usually two GIMP-worthy stories (with a single illustration for each story). The cover story was usually a GIMP heroine menaced by either Germans or Japanese, and the heroine was usually rescued "in the nick of time." (Darn!). The other story was a historical, usually medieval, story and the GIMPs weren't as lucky (though the details of their torture was skimpy). But that was the best there was, and nothing similar could be published today. So the "Good Old Days" weren't as good as I remember, especially since the GIMPs usually had the expressions of fashion models walking down a runway rather than a terrified GIMP being menaced by sadistic villains!
And they always wore too much clothing, though it was usually artfully ripped . . .

Yep, my memories as well... more tease than red meat. But as you said, they were the only game in town back then.bleumune wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 2:29 pm Here's another of my favorites from those long ago days - Man's Story 1962-09. I have a vague memory of that particular issue, and I suspect it may well have been the beginning of my spiked roller love affair. Your update of the cover is a masterpiece, and I love the added spiked bed under her, and the addition of the well whipped female in the background... really gets my juices going.
Beautiful work, and thanks for sharing.

Re: Men's Magazines alterations
I was cleaning up some of my files and noticed that I had finished this cover of Man's Story 1962-11 titled "A Bed of Fire for the Bound Beauties of Norway" but had never posted it. I couldn't help but find objections to the original cover, partly because both heroines on the cover are wearing more clothing than necessary for the evil intentions of those dastardly nazis. But my main objection was the serene expression of the heroine about to be lowered onto a grate over the fire. She looks like she's striding down the runway at a fashion show instead of being menaced by a "Fate Worse Than Death"!
Anyway, here's my altered images along with the original cover image.

Let me be the first to say how glad we are that you found this one. It warms my heart (among other things) to see that cover properly done. And yes, those rather bored expressions on the girls faces always distracted from the scene, and spoiled it. All of those covers did that and I wonder if there was some kind of restriction on the artist to not show real terror or suffering.

Re: Men's Magazines alterations
It does make your wonder, doesn't it? Now, the Emtee magazines (Man's Story, Men Today, World of Men, etc.) usually had a war-related cover with (usually) nazis or japanese soldiers. Those were the color covers with the fashion model heroines with the placid expressions ("I guess I'm going to be tortured beyond my ability to stand it. Oh, well, I didn't have anything else planned for the afternoon . . ."). And, of course, in the interior stories the heroine was almost always rescued in the nick of time!
On the other hand, inside the magazine was another story, usually based on some kind of fanciful historical scenario where the heroines faced real peril and often mortal torture. The interior illustrations were in black and white, and the heroines often showed real terror or even suffering. Of course, all the heroines were dressed in torn and ragged attire which somehow managed to cover up the most attractive female attributes!
That's why I enjoy bringing a more . . . ah, Intense . . . point of view to my 3D images (and my stories, if I had time to write in light of all the half-completed images I have in my files!)
Re: Men's Magazines alterations
Well, here's another image to be ignored. This one is from a Men's Magazine called Man's Epic. The issue dates from 1965 in November, and the inside story was called 1000 Nudes for the Devil's Crypt. You gotta love the imagination of whoever came up with those titles, right? It shows a heroine with ragged (but artfully arranged!) clothing being menaced by some kind of so-called scientist in his so-called laboratory who's about to drip acid on the bound heroine for some nefarious reason. I can't remember ever reading this story, but I found the image online somewhere and thought it might benefit from a bit of work to make it more . . . ah, realistic!

Everything.
The action in the foreground is the main thing of course, but I do enjoy the tortures going on in the background just as much. Cruel tortures, attention to detail, facial expressions, quality renders, etc., just perfectly sadistic and lovely.
Thank you Bleu for sharing with us.
