On a slightly different note, I've been re-reading Tolkien's The Hobbit for the nth time, and came across this in my travels:
"...Under the counsel of Sauron the Númenóreans became even more warlike, hunting the Men of Middle-earth and enslaving them. Ar-Pharazôn had a five hundred foot temple to Melkor erected, in which the enslaved Men were sacrificed..."

So I'm taking the term "men" to be the race of men, and if human sacrifice was practiced, surely the Númenóreans also engaged in all sorts of depraved practices, like torturing women, either as part of ritual sacrifice or for their sadistic pleasure?

Funny to associate GIMP with Tolkien.

Tolkien is the guy who, when in the Silmarillion he wants us to know that Morgoth - basically evil incarnate, his version of Satan - wouldn't mind giving Luthien Tinuviel a quick fuck, writes something like (I cite from memory, read it more than 40 years ago): "then the darkest thought ever entered the evil lord's mind, of such depravity he never reached before or after"

Yep, Tolkien's Middle Earth, for all it's gaiety and splendor was also a savage place, with all sorts of supernatural creatures, evil men and orcs/goblins running around, and wars aplenty. Innocent (and not so innocent) females would have suffered plenty, I imagine.

Though until the more intelligent orcs bred/manufactured by Saruman in Isengard, I think women were more to be slaughtered and consumed by orcs, instead of what we GIMPers prefer...slow, screaming abuse under their claws.

I also seem to remember a very short passage in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, where a beautiful Queen (?) was taken, and died in torment in the orc caves under the Earth? Of course, no details, drat!
