When Triss' day to be turned into a lowly slave has come, she was taken to the same public platform in front of the castle. The usual large crowd is waiting to see yet another sorceress being stripped of her rank and her clothes and prepared for the mine. Them bastards! They will hump their wives tonight with the image of her bouncing teats in mind. To escape what she knew it was coming she would have banged each of those in the crowd, given a choice. Sadly, it was not an option given.

She notices uneasily that the guards were carrying heavy whips, not knowing that sometimes, for more egregious offenses before the rings were placed, a public whipping was announced to the adoring crowd who gets to see two shows at the price admission of one.

The offense must have been her attempted escape a few days before. But that's what prisoners are supposed to do, aint so? Try to escape. It's like punishing water for being wet.
