Beginning now The Dude is taking over the administration of the forum.

Upcoming Forum Upgrade: Process and Communication

The GIMP Forum will be undergoing necessary technical maintenance, and for the next few weeks, the responsibility for this process rests with The Dude, who will manage all aspects related to the Forum.

Notification and Initial Preparations
At an appropriate time, a notification will be issued to inform members that the upgrade of the phpBB platform is imminent. To ensure a smooth transition, attachments and new posts will be temporarily disabled. This step is essential to facilitate a comprehensive backup of the entire Forum.

Backup Process and Rationale
The reason for disabling posts and attachments is to prevent any new content from being lost during the backup process. By securing all existing material, we can minimize the risk of data loss as we move forward with the upgrade.

Upgrade Implementation and Possible Downtime
After the backup is successfully completed, work on the upgrade will commence. During this phase, the Forum may be offline for a day or two, depending on the requirements of the upgrade.
