I think you are referring to the series broadcast in the mid-1960s. Since I am considerably younger than you, I will comment on the topic with the film of the same name from 1998. I must admit that Penny has always been my favorite, but I would be lying if I said I didn't also notice Judy.

The daughter obviously has a problem touching the place from which she emerged about twenty years ago. On the other hand, the mother is more rational and understands that this act will save them from additional punishment by the abductor—or perhaps she wants to compare this sensation with the pains of childbirth that she experienced about twenty years ago bringing her into the world.
