Hello GIMPers.
In post #20 of the Seditiosa topic, La Reine Margot said that they were looking at the possibility of setting up a streaming channel for their films. I thought I would start this topic, to see what you people think and to gauge how much support there is for this idea.
I for one would love to see this happen and I would watch all of their films at least once.
Streaming Channel?
Re: Streaming Channel?
This is a surprise. Nobody has replied to my post after 7 weeks and almost 12000 views. Am I really the only one with a view on this?
I reiterate my support for this streaming channel. My preference would be to pay a small fee to watch each film, like on Vimeo at the moment. I would be willing to pay at least 5 dollars for each viewing.

Re: Streaming Channel?
The pros and cons of streaming
We are considering setting up a streaming channel, but first we have to decide if it's worth the effort and the money.
Setting up something like what we have with Vimeo, where we rent some of our movies, very few of them, is not the best.
People prefer to buy the films, that's what we noticed with Vimeo.
In the other hand, setting up a streaming site, where people join for a monthly fee, might be better, or it might not.
For that to work we would need at least 100 people joining the first month and a good number every month after that.
Our best deal at present is the sale of the films. It's steady and a good average per month. It doesn't change a lot from month to month except when we have a new release, then it goes pretty high for a couple of months and then it levels of.
Olalla is one of the films at Vimeo
https://vimeo.com/ondemand/olalla
And it is the one that makes the least. The one that sells well there is Justine.
When we first began with Vimeo we thought that lots of people would rent the movie, and I mean LOTS, like hundreds, maybe thousands, it's so cheap... if you compare it with the cost of the download. But no, the downloads sell and sell, the rentals... not really much.
That's the story, for now.

Re: Streaming Channel?
I see you can now stream films at the Red Feline website. Good, but why is it the same price as a download? I want to watch most of the films just once to see if I like it. I don't want to pay the same as I would for unlimited viewing. I can watch Justine for $3.99 at Vimeo so it does not appeal to me to pay $29.90 to watch it at the Red Feline website.
It's a good start though. I wish well with this project

We have two films, I think, that are offered as HD and cannot be downloaded, but the buyer has it for unlimited viewing, like the download option.Curious23 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 4:20 pm I see you can now stream films at the Red Feline website. We're working to set up our streaming channel where for a monthly fee people will be able to watch all of our films, with new films coming frequently. We'll start with 40 films and it will grow from there.
There are some issues we have to work out to make it work the way we want it and we have to decide the monthly fee.

Re: Streaming Channel?
I think I would be interested in such a member option (assuming the pricing makes sense). I personally like the Vimeo rental option, but I seem to be an outlier.
I really dislike the player required to play the downloaded DVD images. It feels outdated, restrictive, and crashes pretty regularly.
I have tried the streaming option from the web site and the performance was not great - stutters and mid-film buffering were pretty frequent (and yes, I have a decent internet connection that performs well on other sites).
Just my 2 cents...

Re: Streaming Channel?
We're going over the options for a streaming channel and it would be at Vimeo, where we have our rentals. As we were going over what it takes to set it up, they were improving their system and making it even more interesting; however it has some costs and it would need a good number of members at the beginning, and I don't mean millions, just a few hundred, to make it affordable and desirable.Gray8059 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 10:46 am I think I would be interested in such a member option (assuming the pricing makes sense). We're in the middle of learning the system and we'll be running some tests and begin uploading the films, one at a time, beginning with the oldies.
We're thinking that a reasonable monthly fee would be 20 US or a bit less. I don't know if there's a mandatory number of months to register.
I might have news about this by the middle of next month.
I'll keep you all posted.
