Misc. Arena Scenes

Post by bleumune »

Here's a few images from the time after the great fire of Rome, which burned for six days and seven nights and consumed almost three-quarters of the city. The Emperor Nero came under fierce criticism from the populace and was even rumored to have started the fire. Nero fought back by providing spectacles for the people in which the Christians were crucified in the arena and even set afire to "provide light" for the onlookers (even though most events took place in daytime).

As would be expected, many historians now dispute whether any such events actually took place, but this is a fantasy forum, isn't it?

Thanks, Will. I appreciate your comments.

This is a new Daz Studio work with elite Genesis 8 characters with the best skin materials, my monster GPU for rendering, and the Iray render engine. The real key is how to light the scene so that the Iray rendering engine can make the scene look realistic.

I never figured out how to do that with the 3Delight renderer - my efforts all looked cartoonish. But we all remember Arcas, right? He somehow got great results with Daz 3.x and 3Delight rendering. I have no idea how but he did it.

As for more to come, I may do a scene with all three victims almost enveloped in flames. The Romans used straw and branches soaked in some kind of combutible to burn longer and higher, so I may try to replicate that.

When I get the time, of course! 8-)

Oddly enough I like the 3rd girl in the background as much as the closer ones. Go figure.
Beautiful work, and thanks for posting.

Totally agree, fantasy is the essential part. In my case, just as long as it seems realistic. I've done some arena work just for imagination's sake. I hope you don't mind if I intrude.

Oddly enough, I couldn't post the fourth picture because of the 3 images per day limits! So here you go!
