CHANGES

Changes are coming!

Image

As if things were not confusing already, we're preparing some changes.

You came to see this message by clickng on The GIMP Forum gate, you probably noticed that a couple of the gates that were in the main page are here now.

ALL the gates will be inside The GIMP Forum gate beginning sometime soon.

Why? You ask?

Because the front page will carry one or two gates to sponsors of this site.

We need to upgrade to a much larger hosting plan, which means we'll pay a lot more, maybe three to four times more, every month.

The reason we need to upgrade is because we want to put back all the files that are currently deleted and we need a lot more room for the amazing number of pictures you all are posting.

This site is becoming THE ONE site where you can see all the GIMP material that exists in the universe and some more.

After a discussion with Ralphus we decided that we don't want to charge a fee to the members of the forum. We want it to be free, as it is right now, so, the best way to pay the bills is to have sponsors. We already have one sponsor, us, Red Feline Pictures, we're paying the bills now and we will continue to do so, and you can help by watching our movies.

We had an IndieGoGO campaign to raise funds for a new film, Seditiosa, which raised over 10,000. We're about to get at least another 10 grand from contributors, directly to our account, and we initially got 3,000. So the total amount of money we will have for the film is almost what our goal was, 25,000.

I'm mentioning this because as we went over the records of the contributions to our campaign and where they came from, we were very sad to see that not ONE penny came from here. Sad. Maybe some members here are members of the CruxForum, from where a lot of the contributions came, so it would be unfair to say that no one here contributed to the campaign. But there are no registered contributions from the links here.

What I'm saying is that our Sponsorship plan might work, or it might not. Time will tell. If it does, then we will have this site running smoothly for years to come, if it doesn't, then we will have to start eliminating files on a monthly basis.

We're looking into other alternatives as well, but right now the sponsorship idea is the easiest one.

Another idea is to back The GIMP Forum with a voluntary fee of 3 or 5 per month through our Patreon Site. We could set up a category of GIMP supporter for 3 bucks a month and see what happens. That's just an idea. There would be some special goodies there. But we'll see.

That's it. We're open to suggestions.

Mostly good news this time...
Sponsoring could certainly help but I'm wondering (just wondering...) if Professional video studios regularly promoting their latest products in the "Producer's Corner" (I won't name them, but there are 3 or 4 you know well) with direct links to their commercial website shouldn't be (politely) asked for some promotional/sponsoring efforts. The contents are informative and we mostly like it (when there is some interaction/feedback/discussion), but also a form of free advertising, isn't it ? And free advertising on well-referenced specialized websites are becoming rare (or non-existent) nowadays.
Maybe you should think about it.
Thank you and keep up with your good work.

Margot, with due respect let me share my opinion. I might be wrong but I fear you put your own thread far from the main traffic of the forum. And today you took a huge step further away. I thintk o get more attention you should head to the opposite direction among the other producers. I say it with the best intentions, I hope no hard feelings.

My thread, News from Red Feline, is in the Open Discussion forum. It has a duplicate in the Red Feline Pictures forum.

We moved the forums, most of them, inside The GIMP "parent" Forum because we need to have the Forum Rules in a very visible spot, like it is now. We can't have that on the first page.

The main page of the GIMP forum will carry two or three 'sponsor' spots. Red Feline Pictures is one of them because we're financing this site.

There will be other changes as we work on the financing of the Upgrading of the forum. We're holding a lot of images and we had to delete a lot of past files. Since we keep growing and we need to expand, we have to take measures to be able to pay for the expansion, upgrading, and so on.

We will not put the site behind a pay wall, but we need to pay the site bills, every month.

We're not looking for attention, we have plenty, we just want to make it easier for people to get our news.

It will take some time to get all the work done here because we are very busy producing one movie, 69 Année Érotique, pre producing another one Seditiosa, and preparing the theatrical release of Pygmalion.
