Your post speaks to the magnitude of the events of 9/11, but also shows something much more important, at least to my mind, and that is that NY is not just a US city, it is a world city.

I was 3,000 miles away that day and I will always remember the place and time when I saw the images of the planes crashing into the Towers. When I got to work, everything had stopped and there were many of us who had relatives or friends trapped in the towers. The version of Sounds of Silence is not only appropriate, it is raw as that day represents a raw wound in a world grown ever more sinister and evil.

Here is a link to another tribute to 9/11, this time by Leonard Cohen, The day they wounded NY”

On another note, Irma has also shown we live on a global village and cannot but be affected by the magnitude of such events. Who among us does not have family or friends in Florida and the Caribbean islands the hurricane struck? To all those contributors, such as Covers, and lurkers that might have been in Irma’s path I truly hope you are safe and sound.
