A Bring Out the GIMP (Girls in Merciless Peril) Movie Review

Ralphus ZFX Review

Hard is the Way

The latest offering from ZFX Productions is called Hard is the Way, which is the first half of a proposed 2-part series. The film once again stars the luminous Candle Boxxx as the female lead. She and Rick Masters worked together in last year's highly successful Shadow Army, so another get-together by actress and director was a no-brainer.

Candle plays a professional cat burglar who's assigned to steal an antique gold box from a Masonic temple and deliver it to someone named Necron who dabbles in black magic, since the box supposedly has mystical properties. Candle, looking fabulous in a form-fitting black vinyl catsuit (at least she dresses for the part), easily nabs the box and then meets up with Necron to get her payment.

Necron is played with zero charisma by newcomer Conor Coxxx, and it's an unfortunate pairing. As an actress, she's in a way more advanced league than this guy. It's like matching up Meryl Streep alongside some teenager they found in a junior high school production.

At any rate, Necron overpowers her with a few select blows to the face, then winds a cord around her neck to choke her into unconsciousness. With her now subdued, he slowly strips away her catsuit costume, and we get a good look at Candle's lovely naked body. He picks her up and carries her away to his lair, where several tortures await her.

When we see Candle next, he has chained her spreadeagle to a bed frame. She struggles in her bonds and tries to talk to Necron, but he's having nothing of it and proceeds to silence her with an overly large blue ballgag, instantly improving her looks.

Necron mumbles something to her that's supposed to sound threatening, but he's barely audible, as though Rick didn't have his microphone turned on. But Candle's screaming is plenty loud enough as he gives her a sound thrashing with the whip, over and over until her body is covered with red whip marks, a long and well-directed scene with lots of angles and great reaction shots of Candle suffering beneath the whip.

This is followed by another scene with Candle bound to the bed frame, but this time her legs are spread open and chained to the top of the frame. Necron fills her mouth with a pump gag, but not before wetting it down with her pussy juice before forcing it into her mouth, a nice touch. After he ties it into her mouth, he puts on a pair of rubber gloves that been electrified with metal contacts on the outside, and rubs his gloved hands all over Candle's tits.

Necron next wires up Candle for some electricity, shoving metal probes up both her asshole and her pussy. Then he takes a handheld wand and zaps her several times all over her tits and her pussy. Once again, the villain is quiet and mechanical, but Candle's energetic thrashing gives the scene the energy it needs to succeed. As usual, there are plenty of special effects animated sparks to intensify the illusion, as well as just a hint of smoke escaping her holes as the probes are removed.

When we see Candle next, she's bound in a standing position with her arms overhead and her legs tied spread open to wooden blocks on the floor. She once again gagged, with a red ball in her mouth, held there tightly with clear tape. Necron approaches and immediately tightens her bonds, then greets her with the spark of his Taser.

After being shocked 5 times in her previous meeting with Rick and 2 more times in this movie, Candle has the formula down pat, and the sparks emitted from Taser look especially real as she gets jolted over and over on her nipples and between her legs. It's a very believable sequence, made all the more so by Candle's painful squealing through her gag. This chick knows how to act!

The next sequence is easily my favorite, as Necron hoists her into an upside-down position and hangs her from the ceiling. She looks amazing with her hands tied behind her and tightly gagged with a black ballgag. Necron then lashes into her with the whip, and her painful crying with each blow gives the scene a strong intensity. The villain even tries to spice things up with a few threatening comments this time, but once again, he doesn't emote and you can hardly hear a word he's saying. Nonetheless, fans of upside-down bondage should love this.

This followed by a scene where Candle is tied in a unique position, with her legs again tied apart, but this time she has her neck and wrists tied to an overhead spreader bar. This forces her to stand in a bent-forward position, and Necron gags her with her own black panties tied into her mouth with rope. With her posterior open and exposed to him, he repeatedly smacks away at her ass until it's a lovely shade of crimson. How you feel about spanking will dictate whether or not you like this sequence. Pure spanking scenes do little for me, but once again Candle gives it her all and acts as though she's really suffering.

The final sequence is the obligatory ZFX excursion into "weird shit", which seems to happen in nearly every one of their productions. This is where Rick steps away from traditional tortures and delves into the science fiction/fantasy territory. In this case, we see Candle pantomime being stretched out and raped by a large gelatinous phallus, which seems to grow larger the more it thrusts into her. As far as live action anime scenes go, it's very well-done, but clearly not for every taste, and it wasn't for mine, either. The sequence might remind you of Candle's invisible man rape scene in Shadow Army. All of which made me wonder...are we ever going to see her do a rape scene with an actual real person one of these days?

As in most of ZFX's productions, there's certain scenes in them that make them a worthwhile purchase, and this one is no exception. As usual, Candle Boxxx gives an incredible performance as the victim, giving it her all in every frame of the movie. The problem here is Conor Coxxx. To borrow the words of a friend who also saw the movie, he's about as threatening as "Billy, the kid next door who mows the lawn". This film is every bit as inventive as Shadow Army; the difference is that film had Jon O'Brien, one of the ZFX's best villains ever, playing the bad guy. Whereas there is very little dramatic interaction between the bad guy and the victim here. He's as dull as dishwater, leaving Candle to do most of the work herself. It all comes down to casting, and as I've stated before, having a strong bad guy is often just as important as the female lead.

Still, a recommendation here, especially for the excellent inverted whipping scene. The movie's not perfect by any means, but there's enough variety and unique setpieces to please most fans of ZFX's work.
