A Bring Out the GIMP (Girls in Merciless Peril) Movie Review


PZV117: Private Security

I was intrigued by the plot of the recent Powershotz movie, PZV117: Private Security, about two cute girls who decide to shoplift some lingerie from a shopping mall, only to be taught a lesson when caught by mall security. Even better was the fact that two wholesome-looking blondes (Andi and Shelby) are cast as the shoplifting duo. But ultimately, this one misses the mark at nearly every turn.

The first big mistake occurs near the beginning of the vid, where we see the two girls accosted by mall security as they are headed to their car after their shoplifting venture. There's a quick cut, and then all of a sudden we see both girls bound and cleave-gagged in the back of a van. What happened to the initial tying, gagging and protest by the girls? It seems like we're missing an important scene. And then the ride in the van is padded and boring, showing them struggling for 8 long minutes, which is about 6 1/2 minutes too long.

Then we see them tied up inside some house, facing each other and handcuffed arms over head in a standing position. They are groped and slowly stripped of their clothes, and we see they are wearing the stolen lingerie underneath their shorts and tops.

And from here til nearly the end of the DVD comes another mistake, or at least a poorly thought-out directorial choice. Director Steve Power chooses to show the bondage sequences with the split-screen or picture-in-picture, showing the same action from two different angles at the same time. I can understand the motivation behind this, but to me, it was a gimmick that instead draws attention to itself and away from the action onscreen.

As a viewer, you can't really watch two movies at one time, so I ended up choosing whichever side of the screen was more interesting...and then I only got to see a portion of it anyway, because the other half was cut off. If you're using two cameras and filming the action from two different angles, the editor is the one who should choose which shot works better when he puts the movie together in the first place. I sincerely hope Power will rethink using the splitscreen and abandon it in his future DVD releases.

Leaving Andi tied up alone, one of the captors takes Shelby on a table and ties her wrists and ankles behind her and gropes her naked ass a bit, then winds a rope around her neck and forces his finger into her open mouth. After skillfully trussing her up in a tight hogtie, he fills her mouth with a blue ballgag, and helps himself to her helplessly bound body. He even sticks those Japanese nose hooks in her nostrils and forces her to pull her head up and arch her back. It is easily the most effective bondage sequence in the movie.

Then we see Shelby in an uncomfortable bondage position as she is bound on her back over a small portable cart, with her head and legs tied hanging down over the sides. He whips her a few times with a riding crop, then brings out Andi and forces her to bury her face into Shelby's crotch. Andi is never bound (should have been) but is treated roughly and dominated, while her friend can only watch.

Then we see the girls once again bound and in the van, and one of the captors announces they're going to take them "someplace where they'll never be found", which elicits a scared reaction from them. And I'm thinking, hey, this might get interesting. The van stops and instead of dumping the girls out on the dirt and grass, they are gently laid out onto a huge piece of cardboard that for some reason is lying out there all by itself. How convenient. The men throw their clothes at the bound women and take off, leaving them to untie themselves and somehow find their way home, even though they are presumably left out in the middle of nowhere. Except there's another major mistake that blows the whole illusion.

"I don't even know where we're at!" one exclaims. "I don't care, we'll just start walking til we find a house," the other replies, and as they walk away, the camera pans RIGHT BY A HOUSE, complete with two cars in front of it! This final scene was obviously shot right in someone's driveway. Oh well, there goes that fantasy.

Just when I thought this one was over, it's rescued by a shorter (about 20 minutes long) unrelated segment with two other girls, Audrey and Abby, who are chained together and kneeling in a small enclosed area of a cold basement. And fortunately, this story works much better. Abby is a tattooed waif with dirty blonde hair (and dark roots...yuck), not anyone who I would consider attractive. But her partner Audrey is a dark haired, brown eyed cutie, and she made the rest of the movie work for me. The two captives are inspected by their captor and a prospective buyer, intending to sell them into white slavery.

The best scene in the movie is the final one, where we see Audrey tied to a chair, and the camera stays on her as we hear the sound of her friend being beaten and raped (and catch glimpses of it from the corner of the screen). It was really a brilliant choice to leave the camera on her as she watches helplessly while her friend is violated. This saved the movie, in my opinion.

As a whole, this one had potential, and it's not without its highlights, but it's not very well made. There are jump cuts in the middle of shots, some sequences run too long, and as mentioned, the whole split-screen thing weakened the final product. Three of the 4 girls are easy on the eyes, and you could do worse than watch them get tied up and dominated for an hour and a half. Let's just hope that Powershotz corrects their mistakes in future productions.
