The Experiment by Mood Pictures Review
The central theme of this film was that (according to the plot) four prisoners were to be whipped in exchange for early release and the audience had ultimate control over how many lashes they would receive. The audience consisted of 12 people; seven of them would have to press the button in order for the punishment to stop. So the plotline here was that the film was, in essence, a test of people's sympathy and sadism, to see how long the whipping would last until they decided justice was served.
As Tippi explained the rules to the audience and asked if there were any questions, one lady asked: "What happens if we don't press the button at all?" Tippi confirmed that the punishment would then only cease after two hundred strokes. Right away we knew that there was at least sadist present and this really gets the blood pumping with excitement as we realize there is a greater chance for longer whippings.
The first girl to be whipped was Nicole; unlike the others, she actually had a nice rack which we get the pleasure of observing jiggle about as her flogging progressed.
She didn't bounce around too much, but she certainly wasn't stoic. She was more of a sobbing mess, even though she had few tears.
The second whipping was of veteran model Roxanne, her punishment lasted the longest.
Certainly, she is very far from attractive, but she had a terrific pain tolerance and doesn't hold back.
The third prisoner to be whipped had such an arrogant look that she deserved to beaten. Fortunately, that bitch-look is soon wiped off her face.
By the time her punishment was over she was rocking around so hard that had the punishment frame not been attached to the ceiling, she would have fallen over.
The fourth whipping is of the sweet-looking Nessie, who is a plump cutie even if her tattoos ruin her look. Her reactions were superb, even from just the fourth stroke she was howling in agony.
By the time the 25th stroke landed she would have collapsed the floor if not for her restraints, and her whipping kept going far beyond that!
Tippi was perfect as the cold, disinterested bureaucrat-type; she was simply an employee doing her job and going through the motions. Sort of like a professor explaining the rules of a practicum…after teaching it for 25 years, no reason to get excited.
When the prisoners were made to face the audience as their crimes were read out and their punishments were announced, we got the chance to observe their reactions. All four prisoners looked rather uncomfortable yet mostly indifferent to their impending ordeals(s). This was quite entertaining as we knew that soon they would be screaming in pain as the whip painted them red and blue from shoulders to ass.
The position all 4 victims were retained to was also very conducive to producing an excellent whipping. It made them thrust their chest forwards and bound their arms tightly while leaving their midsection unbound thus allowing them to struggle greatly adding to our and the audience's enjoyment. They had room to lean to one side, to partially fall over frontward or backwards and to hop up and down in pain. It almost would have been better if their feet had been unbound so they literally could try to run away. The film does have to be marked off a little because of Nessi's disgusting tattoos; they were not covered up in any way.
If there was one major thing that could have been altered in this film it would have been to change the direction in which the victims were positioned. As they were whipped, they were facing the wall with their backs to the audience. Had they been instead positioned facing the audience when they were whipped, their humiliation (even though it's only a film) would have been increased and their utter helplessness as they were forced to scream, writhe and shed tears before the lash would have been made all the more plainer for everyone to see. Being forced to break down and cry before others, even if you couldn't make eye contact with them through the one-way glass screen, is the epitome of public humiliation! However, it does make sense that if the audience wasn't able to observe the marks on the victims' bodies (because the girls would have been facing them) that they would be less able to judge how severe the punishments were and would have spoiled the film's legitimacy.
At the conclusion of each whipping, the audience's reactions were polled. "Did you feel sorry?" "Why didn't you press the button?" and "Do you support there-introduction of Corporal Punishment?" etc. I won't spoil their reactions, yet this part wasn't so exciting however as it was impossible to ascertain as to whether their responses/reactions were scripted or genuinely their own.
One of the upper-echelon Mood films, certainly not the best, but absolutely top 10. Valuable not only for its savage punishments but also for the strong psychological and fear elements present.
