Slaughter Hotel (1971) (uncut)
aka Cold Blooded Beast aka Asylum Erotica, etc.
Movie Info: IMDb

It’s not a hotel, really, but what we today would call a “residential mental health treatment facility.” And what a facility it is...with finely-appointed rooms and well-kept spacious grounds, it caters to young, rich and beautiful females who need a little “rest”. It appears to be an authentic medieval or Renaissance-era castle that was turned into a hotel, then loaned to the film-makers for this project.

Recently we've been talking about hot women who become cold corpses, and that’s basically what this movie is about. It’s a rather bizarre slasher featuring a masked, cloaked stalker who infiltrates the building – or is it someone already on the inside? – and helps himself to the array of antique weaponry prominently displayed in a special room. No explanation is given for leaving deadly devices within reach of homicidal/suicidal/depressed patients. The killer selects a different weapon for each victim.

This review is non-linear in its approach: instead of walking chronologically through the story (which jumps around a lot), I'm going to introduce each GIMPette and relate her encounter with the bad guy. All of the killings take place in a single night. Time notations indicate where your FF target is.

Meet Margaret Lee (Venus in Furs)...and her eyes.

Depressed/suicidal Cheryl (Margaret Lee) is actually the first potential victim to make an appearance (at 4:30) and what a memorable one it is. She is initially seen squirming naked in her bed while she sleeps – a habit shared by others in this facility – as the killer approaches.

In her stupor, and still unaware of the killer’s presence, Cheryl pushes the button calling for the nurse, and all the house lights come on. Zorro has to quickly leave the scene. Rats. Later in the movie, Cheryl will offer herself up as bait to catch the killer. See? Suicidal. Unfortunately, Margaret Lee does not get naked in the movie again.

Haughty Ruth (blond Gioia Desideri) has blackouts during which she tries to kill herself or others. And the doctors want to her to stay here?

As Ruth is sleeping (47:00), wearing a partly-open, filmy negligee, the killer steals into her room wielding a very handsome-looking dagger. Then he does something unexpected...he puts the dagger in her hand.

At first she is transfixed, then enthralled by the weapon in her possession. She immediately raises it to plunge it downward into her would-be assassin, but he disarms her and grabs her roughly. Being a homicidal maniac herself, she tries to choke him. He gets the better of her and obliges with his own throttling, finally shaking her violently as if to snap her neck.

He rams the blade in her chest a few times, then runs it s-l-o-w-l-y down her torso, from about her sternum to her pussy, leaving a trail of blood along the way. He then quickly and deftly slices her panties open, revealing her pussy, and finally rips the panties off.

Do I need to tell you that I liked that?

But the scene quickly shifts, so we are done with Ms. Desideri.

I'm glad Ruth was the first one to die.

Anne (sizzling Rosalba Neri) is burdened with nymphomania and is also obsessed with fucking her brother.

”Your love is excessive...go take a shower!”

The doctor orders her to take a shower (20:52), and it’s quite a shower, with water jets hitting her from all directions. Rosalba Neri puts on a nice show in this lengthy sequence, bouncing off the walls and sinking to the floor. Wet and wild, just the way I like them.

That evening (31:40), she sneaks off to the greenhouse and seduces the gardener.

When she won't let go of him, even though orderlies and nurses are searching for her, he slaps her hard three times and orders her to leave.

Then she slaps him and walks away, making quite a lovely exit.

Later that night (1:05:00), as she’s tossing and turning naked in her bed, fingering her pussy, the killer approaches with an axe hidden behind him.

She’s too overheated to recognize that he is not the gardener (not that she would care anyway, as long as he has a dick).

She invites him into her bed, but his response is to raise the axe and bring it down on her several times.

The killing is mostly seen in silhouette, but the aftermath scene is nice.

Thus, after having shown us every square inch of her body several times, Rosalba Neri exits the film.

Jane Garret (above) in her only known movie role

Mara (sumptuous Jane Garret) suffers from amnesia and agoraphobia. She can't remember why she’s at the facility, but she’s too afraid to leave.

And why would she want to, when lovely red-haired, blue-eyed lesbian nurse Helen (foxy Monica Strebel) takes such good care of her, giving her massages and sponging her all over in the bubble bath?

After bathtime (1:12:00), Helen sits and rubs her pussy. She puts on some rhythmic music, and she and Mara dance. This leads to a hot snogging session between the two. Afterwards, Mara goes to the window, fully naked, to let in some fresh air.

But the killer has grabbed a crossbow from the weapon collection, snuck outside, and taken aim. Thhhhhpp! Right through the neck. Can't say I've seen that in a movie before.

Die young, make a good-looking corpse

Alerted by Helen’s screaming, everyone now knows that there is a killer loose in the building; so the rest of the movie deals with the attempt to capture and unmask him. The movie ends quickly and violently, but there is no further GIMPage.

Movie plusses : Very beautiful women get naked, squirm around a lot, show and play with their pussies (the explicit scenes are probably inserts) and die violent deaths.

Movie minuses : A lot of filler – laced with European lounge music – and flashbacks slow the movie considerably. But the biggest problem here is that the killer’s identity must remain unknown until the end, so there is not enough interaction between him and his victims. Although these are girls in merciless peril, there is no torture, rape, bondage or slow torment.

I think a better scenario would have been for the villain to abduct the babes, take them to a secret chamber in the castle, and have his way with them for a while before dispatching them. (OK producers, there’s your plot; the rest is in your hands.)

It’s splendidly filmed, and the widescreen aspect ratio makes it ideal for viewing naked victims in horizontal positions. The uncut version gives you all the explicit views of 1970s-style hairy lady parts being stroked by their owners.

Arguably not a true “giallo”, the movie lacks the suspense of a good thriller, nor does it show enough GIMPage to be...well, a GIMP classic I give this average movie a bonus for the multitude of pulchritude.

My Grade: C+
