And to live up to my words about reviewing a sexploitation title, my review for this week is for Prison Girls (1972).
I encountered this sexploitation movie by chance upon my hunt of Uschi Digard movies because I'm a HUGE (pun intended) fan of hers. The story, just like any sexploitation movie, is pretty simple. Six female prisoners are given a weekend furlough to prepare them for their upcoming parole. While out, they all have miscellaneous sexual experiences, some good, some bad. One returns to her pimp even though he beats her, one overcomes her frigidity, one gets gang raped, two join in a threesome, and one goes back to her criminal lover shortly before the police show up.
Needless to say, this is one of the best WIP films ever made. It's filled with pantheons of nudities from start to finish. Hell, we start this movie by the mandatory shower scene!
The girls are plenty nice, with good racks and pretty face. Uschi Digard’s love scene in the final part of the movie is considered the highlight for 2 GIGANTIC reasons:
Yep, lucky man! I know, I'm envious of the guy too.
But before we get some love, the third segment of the movie is a great GIMP scene worthy of being more well known.
The victim in question is called Joyce, played by the delicious sexploitation star Maria Arnold (not the governor’s wife, of course), who is often featured whenever Uschi Digard is also featured in a movie (although Maria is usually the ones receiving the GIMP scenes, for whatever reason).
Unfortunately, I was unable to acquire the pictures of Maria Arnold in this movie. But so that you got an idea of why anyone would want her as a victim, this is how her face looks like:
And this is her GIMP scene where she is sold as slavegirl in a slave auction from another movie which also starred Uschi, Below The Belt (1971):
Now at least we got a general idea of her rack, which is pretty cool. Too bad that scene is so damn short.
Now back to the movie I'm reviewing, Joyce here visits her former brother-in-law in a damp garage. And by former I mean her husband already died. I don't really remember the exact problem, but I'm sure the death of her husband had something to do with her serving time in jail, and she’s here to apologize…somewhat. The brother-in-law is a wimp, and from the get go when Joyce enters with skimpy clothing, it’s 1000000% obvious he’s been in love with her since day 1. Although since this is a sexploitation cinema, I think questioning why Joyce wore a very sexy outfit to this part of the town would be ridiculous.
Things are calm for them at first, but then a gang of bikers enter the scene. I think they have around 4 or 5 people, don't remember (not that it matters). The leader is your usual sleazy and horny man with trashy mouths and disregard over the law. The rest of his gang is more or less the same: 2 rednecks and 2 scary girls. Needless to be said, Joyce senses danger and excuses herself to her BIL. But the gang leader grabs her by the arm and makes his intention well known: to have some.
Joyce retaliates but the rest of the gang quickly grabs her limbs as she screams and kicks, begging her wimpy BIL to help. But the wimp barely does anything without the gang leader so much as threatening him. Joyce quickly had her clothes torn off of her and before long, she is stark naked saved for some high heels sandals (I think). FYI, Maria Arnold is ALL woman from head to toe. I did say she was delicious, didn't I?
She still does the kicking and screaming all the way when the gang lifts her and brings her to the sofa to prepare her for the “action”. This is a very well done scene. I think the fact that Maria Arnold can actually act helped this scene a lot. She never stopped fighting back even when she had people holding her from moving. They finally got her in the sofa but she eventually fights back and runs away from their clutch. Too bad, just like in any B-movie, instead of heading to the exit door she heads to where she can see nothing but walls. A very very unwise decision. Okay, let’s say if she goes to the street people will see her naked, but isn't that better than being gang raped? Although in the first place, maybe a woman as beautiful as she was shouldn't have visited that part of the town, LOL. Why not phone her BIL and ask him to meet somewhere safe and crowded like the park?
Okay, enough with the joke. Back to the bizz, Joyce is quickly cornered by the gang. And despite her best efforts to throw things she can throw and hide from her oppositions, she is quickly outnumbered and clutched again. For the second time, they bring her to the sofa and this time they hold her on all fours to make sure another escape is out of the question for her. She screamed and kicked all the way through, but that’s it for her.
Exhausted after all the fighting, Joyce starts begging her BIL to do something. I think she asks for him to "not let them do this", but I could be wrong. But luck has run out for her indeed. Instead of helping her, with some rude encouragement from the gang, the BIL shows his true color: he is really in love with her and has always wanted her for himself, and this is the chance.
The BIL starts going down on her before humping her, with catcalls from the gang echoing throughout. We have several close up of Joyce’s face, crying and obviously looking betrayed. Whenever I watch this scene, I actually did sympathize with her character. Okay, she’s a criminal. But she’s about to receive a parole and planning to turn her life for the better, which is why she visits the only family she has left. But it ended this way, so it’s kinda tragic.
Joyce can only cry when the BIL climaxes and proudly yells “I did it!!”. The gang leader quickly throws him away and takes his turn on her. There’s another great GIMP scene where Joyce asks for mercy, saying it’s enough. But the gang has no heart in the 1st place so, we end the scene with the gang humping her as tears stream down her face. Later in the ending, it is implied that the male members of the gang did rape her so badly she needs to be treated in a hospital. Although her friends dismissively play down the rape by simply saying “She'll recover and live”.
So, what do I like about this rape scene? Well, rape scenes are common in mainstream movies, but the thing that I truly like from the one in this film is the element of betrayal and the fact that Joyce did try to fight back several times only to have herself overpowered. Now, I realize rape is more about power than sex, which is why taking down the victim after fighting back scores better point in GIMP scenes IMO rather than toppling the victim once without much fighting and doing her. Joyce’s reaction is incredibly realistic and some scenes, especially the close-up to her face during the rape is kinda heartbreaking (especially knowing her original intention of visiting her BIL like I said above). And of course, the betrayal element is crystal clear so I have no need of mentioning it again. Maybe if there’s something I want to add, I would have shown every member going at her. Sorry, I'm not big on implication when it comes to violence.
Regardless, with the copious amount of nudity and sex, Prison Girls as a movie definitely got an A+ from me and the GIMP scene by Maria Arnold receives a solid A-.
