Mini review of Paradise Road
Paradise Road trailer
Paradise Road is about the advancing Japanese army who detain all American and European women during WWII in the Indo-China region. The story is based upon the recollections of those that survived the internment camps in Sumatra.
Gimp wise there is a rather nice scene in which a young Cate Blanchett is punished for speaking during a prisoner assembly. For her digression she has her hands bound behind her then forced to her knees and has a bamboo pole placed on the back of her legs so she is unable to move in any sort of deliberate fashion. She then is forced to remain in this position as there are spears planted in the ground pointed at her. She is forced to remain in the hot sun all day and through the night. The following day, exhausted under the hot mid-day sun she is to the point of passing out. The Japanese internment camp master then walks out to where Cate is being tortured and pulls his sword as he prepares to behead her.
There is also a scene of possible interest to BATS fans. Although unbound, there is a short south-east Asian BBQ scene.
As entertainment a fair to good movie rating a grade of C+/B-
As Gimpage, a very good (although short), well done Japanese torture scene with Cate Blanchett (looking probably the best I’ve seen her look), good for a C+
