The title character, whose identity remains unknown through much of the movie, favors sharp objects (knives, broken glass, razors) as his weapons and likes to make duck sounds while he kills...yes, I said duck sounds. About halfway through the movie, a sophisticated lady who is into kinky sex has a rendezvous with a mystery man (smart girl). She is clad in black lingerie when he ties her to the headboard with rope. After some offscreen sex, we see her naked, awake and still tied, and the dude is fast asleep. She overhears a description of the serial killer on the radio, and comes to the terrifying realization that she's naked, in a vulnerable position, with a possible murderer sleeping next to her. She quietly and carefully removes the rope from one wrist using her tongue and teeth, and then frees herself (don't worry, she doesn't get far). I found this scene very suspenseful, and the escape was surprisingly erotic.

In his free time, the 50-something detective assigned to the case has a pretty blond about half his age as a shagging interest. The killer abducts her and ties her to a bed, arms out to the side, and feet tied to the foot of the bed. She's wearing nothing but white panties and her mouth is taped. The killer places a call to the detective, and rips off the tape so he can hear his girlfriend scream over the phone. Then he takes a razor blade, torments her by running it over her body, and then slowly makes an incision from her sternum to her navel, drawing blood, as she watches in horror and screams. He then runs the razor slowly down her right breast, through her nipple. Finally, he makes a cut from her forehead, through her right eye, and down her cheek. By the time the detective arrives at the scene, the killer is gone, and the girl is lying naked on the bed, butchered to death.

Movie pluses: I liked both of these bed scenes because of the tension and slow torment, mental and/or physical. Both victims are attractive and natural, not artificially enhanced. Also, they went easy on the gore in the second scene. I wish the earlier murder scenes had been handled this well.

Movie minuses: I could do without the duck noises, bad English dubbing (for the Italian cast members) and annoying background music. But I guess you have to take the bad with the good.

They don't make 'em like this anymore. I give it a B-.
