Nude for Satan (1974)
Originally entitled Nuda per Satana, this movie stars Rita Calderoni, who I have managed to never see to this point despite my appetite for Eurosleaze flicks. This movie looked like it was also going to be a total bust, GIMP-wise. There was a fair amount of nudity, as the title suggests. The movie is another bizarre 70s European horror film with a plodding and sometimes difficult to comprehend plot. For review purposes, I will focus on the GIMP bits.
At the 44:20 minute mark, the female lead (Rita Calderoni) is wandering around the castle when she hears screams. A fully naked woman (Iolanda Mascitti) is tied AOH with her arms apart being savagely whipped by a guy. Her body is already blood-streaked when we see her for the first time. She writhes and struggles mightily (and screams loudly) as the whip strikes her again and again. There is also a lot of jumpy camera work, suggestive of the violence being done to her helpless body. The whipping goes on for about a minute.
Then suddenly the same woman is sipping from a ceremonial cup, with no marks or blood anywhere to be seen, and lays back on a blue cloth covered dais. She mumbles and writhes fully naked for a while as two guys stand around. The scene builds to a climax as one of the guys works himself up and then plunges a knife into her chest. The close-up of the knife in her bleeding chest is very well done. It would have been better if she had been chained or tied and struggling in abject terror instead of writhing, but it was okay.
At this point the female lead, who has been witness to the preceding tableaux, screams and runs off, loses her balance and falls onto a giant spider web. She struggles there as a football-sized spider lowers itself down and crawls toward her, up between her legs. I was hoping it was going to rape her or something--because I am just so jaded--but all it does is slowly crawl up her chest until the male lead shoots it off with a pistol. What does it say about me that I wondered why the hell anyone would try to shoot a football-sized spider off the chest of a struggling woman? The potential for collateral damage is phenomenal. But oh well. The single redeeming feature of the spider web scene is that the woman is wearing a little black dress that rides all the way up to her waist so that we see her black bikini-bottom panties and long bare legs. Oh, and did I mention one of her breasts pops out of the plunging decolletage? She's fully nude earlier (and later) in the movie, but the partial exposure coupled with the spider web motif is enjoyable in its own right.
The spider web scene is intercut with a lengthy sex scene, lit in red, green, and normal lighting, and employing a kaleidoscope lens at one point. Indulgent filmmaking at its worst. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your personal perversion), it takes that damn spider forever to crawl up onto her belly, and it doesn't do anything once it gets there except wiggle with her struggles. But she really sells the terror and helplessness, so it makes for a nice bug-themed GIMP bit.
That's about it for GIMP scenes.
This is another 70s Euro-horror movie, with all that that entails, but the whipping scene is notable and the sacrifice scene is well done and the spider web scene has its moments. I would give this a B for the GIMP parts. If you enjoy that 70s Euro groove and lots of nude hot Rita Calderoni, watch the entire movie and revel in the nudity and moody atmosphere. Otherwise, employ the fast-forward button to get to the GIMP gems.
Nude for Satan is available as a Redemption re-release from Amazon via third-party dealers. And it is currently on Netflix Streaming.
