Deranged and Motel Hell

Motel Hell

Farmer Vincent owns a motel off the beaten path. As a side business he also sells smoked meats. Some folks say, the finest they've ever tasted. Framer Vincent’s secret to these delectable delicacies? Well, he starts off with only the finest cuts of pork meat, mix in some secret spices, then smoke them to perfection,….oh, and one last special secret ingredient, which he obtains from booby-traps set for weary travelers. After he cuts their vocal cords (as they make gross gurgling sounds), he plants them in the ground and harvests them when ready. “Because it takes all kinds of critters, to make Farmer Vincent’s Fritters.”

There are a couple of mild Gimp moments here. The first has Elaine Joyce briefly hog-tied in a black bodysuit. She looks pretty good in it too. Who'd have thunk that she'd make such a tasty treat…"Cause meat is meat, and man's gotta eat.”

Then at the end there is a scene reminiscent of the old sawmill peril scenarios, in which a victim is tied to a table and slowly moves towards a meat-cutting machine (all while Framer Vincent wears a pig’s head during the climactic fight scene).

Entertainment wise: Mildly entertaining in a purposely cheesy way. Example of which is where Farmer Vincent make his dying confession to his brother (who’s a cop), "My meats….had…..as ingredients……….preservatives", and dies. Plus….in what I suspect might be a cameo appearance by Ralphus' dad, Wolfman Jack plays a preacher. Grade C

Deranged is about Ed Gein, whose true story has inspired classics like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs, not to mention countless lesser entrees. In this movie they choose to change the names however and Ed Gein has become Ezra Cobb.

After tending to his ill mother for 12 years, she finally passes, leaving Ezra alone and bewildered. He’s isolated and not coping well as he begins to hear his mother’s voice telling him to come and get her. It’s been a year since the burial though and his mother hasn't held up well, so Ezra gets it in his head to repair his mom by replacing body parts with fresher one’s he’s robbed form graves.

Having had repaired his mom to a certain extent, Ezra now sets out to find companionship. His attempts at female partnership do not end well as he hears his moms voice telling him all women are sluts, or meeting the family (corpses) goes less than stellar.

Gimp wise there is a couple of scenes of interest here. The first, is where a thirty-something waitress (played by Micki Moore) is kidnapped. She’s stripped to bra and panties and has her wrists and ankles tied while in a closet. Later she is let out and tied to a chair as she meets the family.

The other is where Sally (played by Pat Orr) is strung up naked upside-down. The down side to this scene is that she is already dead when this happens. This for me is still a pretty good scene as Ms. Orr looks awesome hanging upside-down. A perfect set of tits...until the blood starts covering them. So she’s dead…can't have everything.

Entertainment wise: Not all too bad, but not very scary either. The movie is done in an almost biographical manner as there are segments when the narrator appears on screen, almost like in a stage play. This is probably the most accurate depiction of Ed Gein's life too, as for the most part he was mainly a grave robber. The same holds true here as he only murders 3 victims (Ed only killed 2 if I remember right). Most accurate not only in story but casting as well as the Ed Gein/Ezra Cobb character is portrayed as a mild-mannered and timid character. Not the big, brutish monsters I've seen portray him in other films.

Not bad, not good…middle of the road. More educational than entertaining as we learn the lesson of "The wages of sin is Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and Death." Grade C

Gimp value: Motel Hell really didn't have any major moments to speak of, although I must say that Elaine Joyce looked surprisingly good hog-tied while in that black bodysuit. Very short segment however.

Deranged was a little better with the bra and panties chair tie, and where Sally gets strung up, although only as post-mortem. BTW, this is probably my favorite movie poster. Overall grade, a D for Motel Hell and a C+ for Deranged.
