A Bring Out the GIMP (Girls in Merciless Peril) Movie Review

The Halfway House

Reviewed by YikYakker

The Halfway House is an interesting twist on the WIP genre. Troubled young girls (who really look more like young women) are sent there to be straightened out by the priest and nun who run the place. Of course, there are the requisite lesbian trysts, catfights and shower scenes. But it's all done in a campy, fun style.

So what's the interesting twist? Well, in the basement, behind a steel door, is a tentacled monster who requires "nourishment". Naturally, its favorite meal is "hot babes tied spread-eagled to the basement floor wearing nothing but panties" (I like this guy's taste). We get three fairly lengthy scenes of said babes squirming and screaming and struggling to get loose, only to get that wild-eyed look I love so well when that steel door opens, and the tentacles wrap around their succulent bodies and drag them to their doom.

But wait, there's more. You also get not one, but two babes bent over the priest's office desk getting a bare-assed paddling (another gets the same treatment, but we only see the marks later in the shower). Yes, I know we've discussed the problems of mixing humor and GIMPness, but I think these folks got it right, and I had a good time watching it. Sure the acting is mostly subpar, and the special effects aren't great, but for a cheap, intentionally shlocky horror film, it really has what its audience is looking for.

It's a grade-C film, but there's more GIMPness here than I've seen in a lot of other tripe. So I'll give it a solid C+, and recommend it for you GIMPers who occasionally would like some lighter fare.

My Grade: C+
