The Dark Trailer

The story begins as a mother (played by Maria Bello) and Sara, her pouty-lipped daughter, (played by Sophie Stuckey), make a trip to the Welsh ocean side for a stay with the girl’s father. Later on, on an excursion along the shoreline, Sara goes missing and is presumed drowned. After search attempts come up empty, a girl (played by Abigail Stone) mysteriously shows up walking outside the house. It turns out the girl is the daughter of a religious leader, whom after the death of his daughter (Abigail) some 50 years ago, convinces his congregation to kill themselves by jumping off the steep Welsh ocean side cliffs.

As far as Gimpage goes, all three of the female characters in this are shown restrained and/or tortured. First is a couple of flash snippets of Sophie. The first shows her in a head restraint with her mouth being covered by a hand for an implied torture. This is followed up by a similar snippet but with her eyes rolling back and a trickle of blood running down her forehead. Later on there are a couple more similar snippets of Sophie .

Abigail is next, as her torture scenes are done from a flashback perspective. She is also head harnessed and tied to a chair for snippets of implied and actual torture. One of which is a metal object being heated and burning her with it.

Maria finishes out the restraint/torture segments as she is tied to a chair and neck strapped. She is shown being slapped around by her now possessed daughter, and then later, cut by Abigail.

As you may know I don't like to give away too much plot from mainstreams. That wouldn't be a problem here as I'm not totally sure what happened. By that, I mean that there are at least 2 or 3 different ways you can interpret the ending…thereby clouding some of the earlier parts that you thought were straight forward. That’s not to say I didn't like this movie. In fact I liked it quite a lot despite the uncertainty of conclusion. I really like the eerie feel and the awesome scenic shots of the Welsh shoreline, including the tall vertical cliffs. And the part that was told from recollection about the mass suicide created a very powerful visual as you see masses of people jumping to their deaths, suitcases in hand, as they were convinced that this was the way to Heaven.

And say what you will, but I thought Sophie Stuckey to be a real cutie. Reminded me of a young Scarlett Johanssen.

Entertainment wise: I'd give it a B/B-
Gimp wise: The visuals are in lots of flash snippets…but there are quite a few. And despite no nudity, and hoping there would be more scenes with Sophie, I'd give it a C/C+
