As promised, here is the Battlestar Galactica review:
Title: Battlestar Galactica: Extended Pegasus Episode
Starring: Grace Park and Tricia Helfer
Available on DVD: Season 2.5, disc one
For those who don't know, the extended Pegasus episode from season 2.5 of the new Battlestar Galactica TV series is the one where super-hot Grace Park's character, Sharon (a.k.a. Boomer), gets raped. Unfortunately, the rape scene doesn't live up to the hype.
I must start by acknowledging I don't normally watch this filmed-in-Vancouver show, about a bunch of people on spaceships looking for a new planet (Earth) to call home after evil robotic workers and soldiers, called Cylons, destroyed most of the humans on their previous home colonies. I saw a few episodes of the cheesy original back in the '70s, but this darker version is a whole new galaxy: Starbuck is a kick-ass lady, the Lorne Greene commander character, Adama, is played by the boss from Miami Vice (Edward James Olmos), and some of the Cylon robots have a humanoid appearance (indeed, Park's character is actually a Cylon robot). If you really want to learn more, you can try this. Anyway, since I'm just a visitor in this universe, I won't claim to know too much about the storyline, other than it involves the Galactica and another spaceship full of humans, called the Pegasus, so here's the synopsis from the DVD case:
The Galactica crew is stunned to find the missing Pegasus unscathed after a vicious Cylon assault. Commander Adama cedes control to Pegasus's superior officer, but a disagreement over a murder verdict will have the ships turning their Viper weapons upon one another in a ruthless war of wills.
Now to the important details. Park's character, Sharon, has been outed as a Cylon agent, and is locked in the brig on the Galatica. Sharon is one well-crafted robot -- slender, beautiful, and really sexy. She looks hot as a prisoner in her sleeveless white undershirt. Sharon has been doing OK as a prisoner of the Galactica crew, but now the yahoos from the Pegasus are taking charge (the Pegasus commander has a higher rank than Adama) and things are taking a turn for the worse. The Pegasus guys like the rough stuff, and three Pegasus interrogators are sent into Sharon's cell to get some answers about a nearby Cylon spaceship.
We learn third hand what might be coming. In another part of the ship, some party boys from the Pegasus are drinking with the Galactica crew, and the Pegasus rowdies joke about the way their interrogators "ride" Cylon prisoners to get answers. They say Sharon should be getting ready for a little of the old, "oh yeah, oh yeah." They also joke about the way they once gang raped a Cylon prisoner on the Pegasus, while one guy hung a "Please Disturb" sign outside the door. "Your little robot girl's going to get quite a ride," one Pegasus yahoo tells the Galactica guys. "Yee haw."
Back in the cell, the three interrogators start demanding information from Sharon. The lead interrogator chokes Sharon as he threatens her, and then gives Sharon some hard slaps to her face. "What the frak," Sharon protests. The three guys then bend Sharon frontward over a cell bed. They grab her arms to pin her in that bent-forward position, pull down her pants, and the lead interrogator starts raping her. Sharon lets out some convincing squeals as she gets violated, and there is a quick flash of some ass, but most of this brief scene is a close up on her face. There is one nice wide-shot scene of Sharon getting nailed, but it only lasts a couple of seconds, as two Galactica men (one is Sharon's boyfriend) burst into the cell and save her.
Overall, the whole thing only runs about 30 seconds, and that 30 seconds includes a lot of footage of the two Galactica guys running through the ship to rescue Sharon. What little GIMP action we see is nice, but it's too short to have any effect.
I should note that another female Cylon, one of the Number Six models (there are multiple copies of each Cylon), is shown as a prisoner on the Pegasus, and she has been clearly bruised and roughed up (I think she's the one who was gang raped). In any event, it doesn't really matter, as her best GIMP moments come in the next episode.
My grade: D
Galactica fans (and Grace Park fans) shouldn't be offended by the low grade. The series itself is impressive, and I will keep watching. But the extended Pegasus episode doesn't work as GIMP material. There isn't enough dramatic build up, and the rape scene itself is much too short. If it hasn't happened already in this series, let's hope Number Six (Tricia Helfer) gets the old "oh yeah" in season 4, and that it lasts long enough to be deemed GIMP-worthy.
