Sex and Fury (1973)
This is an interesting period piece (early 20th century in Japan). It
is a Japanese "Pinky" movie starring Reiko
Ike and co-starring Swedish beauty Christina Lindberg. Reiko Ike plays
Ocho, a precursor to her later "Girl Boss" characters, while Christina
Lindberg plays Christina, a European spy. Like the "Pinky" movie genre,
there is sex and violence throughout the film, and even some GIMP. In a
departure from my normally garrulous tendencies, I am going to
highlight only the relevant bits, completely ignoring the convoluted
plot.
11:40 minutes. Bad guys attack
Ocho while she is bathing. She leaps out and we get a 2-minute sword
fight as she dances around naked cutting a dozen guys to pieces. No
GIMP, lots of naked Ocho. Tell me this scene doesn't remind you of the
Bride's showdown with the Crazy 88's in Kill Bill, minus the nudity.
28:30 minutes. Christina is
distracted during a card game and flashes back on having sex with her
Japanese boyfriend for about a minute and a half. No GIMP but some nice
naked Christina.
32 minutes. Although Ocho
gambled and won freedom for young, virginal Yuki, before he releases
her, the evil Mr Iwakura strips Yuki naked, binds her hands above her
head, forces her legs apart, uses a lamp to confirm that she is in fact
a virgin, applies an aphrodisiacal ointment to her sex, and then rapes
her on the floor. There is nudity, helpless struggling, bondage, cries
and pleas, tears of shame, and of course forced sex. About 2 minutes
worth.
37 minutes. Christina's
European "boss" is angry that she became distracted when she saw her
Japanese lover, reminding her that they are there to compromise a high
Japanese government official and start another opium war. He slaps her,
rips off her clothes, pushes her onto her bed, turns her over and takes
off her very modern black panties, bends her over the edge of the bed,
and rapes her from behind. Well, sort of rapes her. She doesn't fight
back and he takes the time to kiss and fondle her, but you still get
the impression her heart isn't in the sex. The sex continues on a
settee. Nice Christina Lindberg nudity, complete with perspiration. The
scene lasts for about 2 minutes.
41 minutes. There's a 2-1/2
minute consensual sex scene between the evil Mr Iwakura and the evil Mr
Kurokawa's wife. Yawn.
48:30 minutes. A group of
prostitutes is rounded up, then taken into a large room in front of a
large movie screen (with a movie playing so the light is constantly
flickering), tied with their wrists together over their heads, and
beaten with bamboo sticks, it sounds like. They are fully clothed,
though. Ocho shows up with a gun, bargains for their release by
surrendering herself, and the evil Mr Iwakura takes Ocho to bed. Ocho,
who is heavily tattooed, unfortunately, excuses herself to, umm,
"freshen up" before sex, applies poison to her naked body and since the
evil Mr Iwakura kisses and licks her during the subsequent consensual
sex scene, he dies. Lots of Ocho nudity but no GIMP after the initial
group caning. The scene runs about 5 minutes.
59 minutes. Lesbian sex
featuring Christina as the evil Mr Kurokawa watches. About 3 minutes
in, the evil Mr Kurokawa disrobes and joins in, and we get consensual
three-way sex for another full minute. No GIMP, but lots of naked Christina
Lindberg.
1 hour, 9:15 minutes. Ocho is
captured, knocked unconscious, bound with chains on the floor (clothed
except her breasts are exposed), and whipped repeatedly by Christina,
who is dressed in a leather buskskin outfit with a short fringed skirt,
as the evil Mr Kurokawa and his choir of killer nuns looks on. Like the
good Christians that they are, they are all really getting off on the
torture. Lots of sound, lots of flailing, even a little visual contact.
1 hour, 11 minutes. Immediately
after fading out on the whipping scene, we fade in on Ocho bound
standing up, hands behind her back and with a rope running from her
back to the ceiling. The evil Mr Kurokawa's wife is in the process of
cutting Ocho free when the evil Mr Kurokawa shows up. After a few plot
revelations, he hand slaps and then strangles his wife to death with
his bare hands. Not a bad strangulation scene, as Japanese
strangulation scenes go. The still-rope-tied Ocho watches.
1 hour, 21 minutes. Ocho is
once again rope-bound to the ceiling, but she frees herself. She
confronts the evil Mr Kurokawa who is surrounded by his bodyguards and
the
police, and goes all Tarantino on their asses, finally killing the evil
Mr Kurokawa. She is fully clothed during this fight scene.
Spoiler Alert: Everyone ends up dead.
SUMMARY: Virgin Yuki is raped.
Christina is the victim of rough and borderline-nonconsensual sex.
Prostitutes are bound AOH (but fully clothed) and whacked with bamboo
canes. Ocho is chained and whipped (topless), then rope bound standing
and attached to the ceiling. The evil Mr Kurokawa's wife is slapped and
hand strangled to death. There is a lot of incidental nudity
interspersed between the GIMP scenes, featuring the beautiful and
beguiling Christina Lindberg, Reiko Ike, who actually doesn't do much
for me, and several other Japanese actresses.
As a GIMP film, I would rate this maybe a C+ at the most. The
single best redeeming feature of this movie is that the nude, sex, and
GIMP scenes were all relatively lengthy. And Christina Lindberg is so freaking hot.
Amazon
showed a lot of third-party vendors for this DVD in new and used
condition, but I also found it at CDUniverse for only $14.05. I reviewed an old VHS copy from my small but precious Christina Lindberg collection.
